Roses Were Red, the Reception Turned Moody Green

Society wedding meets debutante noir. That’s the energy Ireland and Jack brought to their Pasadena celebration. The day unfolded through a striking church-and-club contrast: a grand ceremony inside Westminster Presbyterian Church followed by a reception at the iconic Langham Huntington. Together with planner Detailed Touch Events, the couple leaned into the architecture and atmosphere of these historic spaces rather than building the design around a rigid palette.

Location: Pasadena, California, USA
Style: Classic, Glam, Elegant
Number of guests: 100
Setting: Church
Season: Spring

Ireland, an interior designer and founder of her own design studio, and Jack, Vice President of Sales and Marketing at his family’s trucking company, share a story that began long before their relationship turned romantic. The two had known each other for years, as Jack was a close friend of Ireland’s brother and often around the family. Over time, that easy familiarity slowly evolved into something deeper, turning a long-standing friendship into a relationship rooted in trust, shared history, and a natural sense of comfort with one another.

Rehearsal Dinner

If the wedding day leaned into cathedral ceremony and society tradition, the rehearsal dinner introduced a completely different mood. Hosted in a warm, brick-lined space, the evening felt darker, richer, and more intimate, closer to a private club dinner than a formal pre-wedding event.

One of the evening’s most playful elements appeared in the escort card display. As planner, Detailed Touch Events shared: “One of my favorite details was the escort card display, a personal touch that reflected the couple’s love of card games during quiet weekends at home. We created custom playing cards using ‘J’ and ‘I’ in the corners, all in the suit of hearts. Arranged neatly in silver trays, the cards introduced a graphic element to the design while tying the evening back to the couple’s everyday rituals.

Bride's Morning & Fashion

Ireland’s morning unfolded quietly. The couple worked with Matinae Design Studio, to create their wedding stationery suite. The invitation set featured elegant script and restrained typography, establishing a sense of formality that carried throughout the day.

Small personal touches appeared throughout the morning. Ireland’s engagement ring was presented in a pale blue velvet box embroidered with her initial. These quiet design moments, from the stationery to the smallest accessories, revealed how much attention had been given to the finer elements of the day.

For the ceremony, Ireland chose a long-sleeved lace gown by Danielle Frankel, sourced from Loho Bride in West Hollywood. The design featured a high neckline and a fitted, elongated silhouette. Delicate lace sleeves and a structured bodice created a strong vertical line, allowing the intricate fabric to take center stage. She completed the look with elegant pointed-toe heels and carried a delicate bouquet of lily of the valley.

Groom’s Fashion

Jack opted for a custom tuxedo that leaned into the formality of the evening’s black-tie dress code. The sharply tailored jacket, crisp white shirt, and classic black bow tie created a clean, traditional silhouette. His groomsmen echoed the look in classic black tuxedos, keeping the overall styling cohesive and understated.

First Look

Ireland and Jack met for their first look in the gardens of the hotel, tucked among winding paths, tall trees, and the property’s striking red bridge. Photographer Shumanev Production leaned into that contrast, using the bridge and surrounding landscape to frame the couple in a way that felt relaxed, cinematic, and completely natural on camera.

Ceremony

Ireland pulled up to church in a classic white Rolls-Royce. Parked beneath the stone archways of the church, the vintage car, Jack’s black tuxedo, and Ireland’s lace gown created a sharp, almost cinematic frame before the ceremony even began.

Inside, the space did most of the heavy lifting. Westminster Presbyterian is one of those churches where the architecture already feels dramatic: soaring stone walls, carved arches, and a massive stained-glass window glowing above the altar. Floral arrangements by Enchanted Garden leaned into a palette of white blooms and soft greenery, placed around the altar with candles that added just enough warmth.

One of the most unexpected details wasn’t something guests could see — it was something they could smell. Hailey of Detailed Touch Events shared that Ireland and Jack created a custom signature scent that was lightly diffused throughout the church and later the reception, adding another sensory layer to the day.

Reception

Dinner unfolded as a four-course seated experience that balanced classic comfort with a few thoughtful personal touches. The evening began with a cream of asparagus soup, followed by a crisp baby iceberg wedge salad. For the main course, guests selected from three options: Moyer Farm beef tenderloin, miso-glazed Chilean sea bass, or Mary’s Farm chicken breast. The meal concluded with a rich cream cheese butter cake, a decadent final note to the dinner service.

The bar leaned playful, offering three signature cocktails alongside the full-service menu. The “Bee’s Knees,” made with gin, lemon, and honey, brought a classic citrusy kick, while “The Lucky Chance” mixed grapefruit with vodka. The most tongue-in-cheek option was the “Screwy 98,” a simple vodka and orange juice combination named as a lighthearted reference to the groom.

The Langham Huntington proved to be the perfect backdrop for Ireland’s vision: a warm, inviting celebration that felt more like an elegant gathering at home than a traditional ballroom wedding. Throughout the reception foyer and lounge spaces, Ireland introduced a more personal layer to the design. Drawing from her own collection, coffee table books, silver trays, and crystal bowls were styled across bar backs and cocktail tables, making the space feel more like stepping into someone’s beautifully curated living room.

Guests were also treated to a few nostalgic favorites, Andes mints, classic dinner mints, and custom matchboxes, small details that appeared throughout the evening as people mingled between dinner, drinks, and the dance floor.
