A Modern Seattle Wedding With Sculptural Style

Featured Members

Gabriella and Markell’s wedding at Seattle’s Olympic Sculpture Park transformed the venue’s contemporary architecture into a striking canvas for a black and white celebration. A custom lighting truss by LightSmith Seattle framed the reception like a gallery installation, while thoughtful fashion choices, sculptural florals, and bold styling brought their vision of a timeless and dramatic day to life. The design never chased trends—it reflected their aesthetic with clarity, restraint, and unexpected edge.

Location:  Seattle, Washington, USA
Style: Classic, grand, moody
Time of planning: 1 year
Setting: Ceremony – outdoor, reception – ballroom
Season: Summer

Gabriella and Markell approached every detail together with clarity and ease, from collaborating on fashion decisions to prioritizing presence over perfection. Their ceremony was filled with gratitude, their reception with energy—and throughout the day, it was clear how much joy they found in celebrating not just each other, but the community that surrounds them. With expert support from Gian Events, their vision took shape seamlessly, allowing them to stay grounded and fully immersed in each moment.

Bridal Morning

Gabriella started her morning surrounded by natural light and skyline views in a modern suite in downtown Seattle. With her beauty team from Luxe Artistry Seattle, she created a look that felt elevated but true to herself—structured Hollywood waves softened into effortless curls, while her makeup leaned into subtle glow and definition.

Her gown, Agatha by Sarah Seven, framed her figure with clean lines and sculptural elegance, which she paired with a dramatic mantilla-inspired veil, chosen as a tribute to her Spanish roots. The moment she stepped into it, her family gasped—“I looked in the mirror and knew it was the one.”

Just a few doors away, Markell reviewed his vows in quiet focus on the balcony. His ceremony look—a black tuxedo from The Black Tux—stood out for its understated twist: a micro pin-dot pattern that added texture without pulling attention. The classic silhouette, complete with bow tie and white shirt, felt formal but personal.

When Gabriella and Markell finally met for their first look, the city backdrop faded. All that mattered in that moment was the way he smiled when he saw her.

Their wedding party mirrored the monochrome palette with sharp cohesion. The bridesmaids wore black gowns in a mix of silhouettes, each holding white roses to echo Gabriella’s bouquet, while the flower girls twirled in mini white dresses with oversized bows. The groomsmen brought warmth and energy, celebrating Markell with laughter during portraits at the sculpture park.

"The black and white color palette was a no-brainer for us—it’s a reflection of our everyday aesthetic and helped the day feel both elevated and personal."

Ceremony

The ceremony took place in a secluded corner of the park, where Richard Serra’s towering steel sculptures framed the altar like modern monuments. The layout was clean and spacious, allowing the site’s natural lines and shifting light to shape the atmosphere. Rows of white chairs faced a round, low platform trimmed with sculptural floral clusters, creating a setting that felt considered, artful, and fully in rhythm with the landscape around it.

Florals followed the same monochrome language. Clouds of baby’s breath and ivory roses rose at the base of the platform, their softness creating contrast against the raw textures of metal and gravel. Along the aisle, clusters of the same blooms lined the front row seats—low enough to preserve clean sightlines, but lush enough to mark the space with ceremony. There was no arch, no traditional structure—just light, movement, and intentional negative space, allowing the couple to remain the visual and emotional focus.

"My favorite part was walking down the aisle with Gaby while everyone cheered us on. It felt like pure celebration."

Guests gathered as live music echoed through the trees, performed by a duo positioned along the entrance steps. When Gabriella began her long walk from the top of the staircase, trailing her embroidered mantilla veil behind her, the entire crowd stood still. “Standing there together, surrounded by our family and loved ones, was incredibly grounding,” she shared. Moments later, they joined hands on the platform and exchanged vows, spoken from the heart, and received by the people who mattered most.

Private Moment

As the sun began to lower behind the trees, Gabriella and Markell stepped away for a quiet walk through the sculpture garden, letting the pace of the day finally slow. Her mantilla veil caught the last golden light, and his hand never left hers.

These portraits, captured by Amber of Wild Felt Photography in both digital and film, felt soft and cinematic, filled with the kind of stillness that only comes once the vows have been spoken and the world around you briefly disappears. It was a pause they didn’t rush, a moment to breathe, laugh, and look at each other without anyone else watching.

"Those moments were full of laughter, happy tears, and excitement that made everything feel real."

Decor & Setting

As the reception transitioned indoors, the space was reimagined as a gallery-style dining room with bold contrast and sculptural restraint. Gian Events brought Gabriella and Markell’s black-and-white vision to life through layered textures and streamlined forms—black linen tables, glass vessels, tall white pillar candles, and single-stem roses in clear bud vases.

Place settings combined modern flatware with knotted satin napkins and personalized menus that welcomed guests with handwritten notes from the couple. The layout felt architectural but warm, with every element thoughtfully spaced and placed to invite ease.

A custom bar installation marked with their initials and wrapped in floral foam greeted guests with a clean, tailored statement. Nearby, framed engagement portraits and candlelight carried the design into the lounge areas and guestbook table. The sculptural light fixture overhead echoed the graphic tone of the space, while the reflection of sunset against the windows added softness to the lines.

Reception

As golden hour started to fade, guests made their way to the veranda for cocktail hour—a moment Gabriella and Markell had been looking forward to. They chose to keep post-ceremony portraits brief so they could actually be present, mingling with loved ones and taking in the view as the sun dipped behind the trees. Margaritas arrived rimmed with chili salt and lime, laughter echoed under the glass facade, and hugs flowed freely. “It was important for us to actually be there,” they shared. “To connect with people, and soak it all in.”

Inside, dinner unfolded with heartfelt toasts and a sense of ease. Guests opened personalized menus and found a note of gratitude tucked beneath each name. The energy shifted when Gabriella and Markell stepped onto the dance floor for their first dance—one of the most joyful, magnetic moments of the night. Later, they cut into a vintage-style cake and shared the first bites with a laugh. “It was a total ‘oh, it’s really happening’ moment,” they said about their grand entrance. The mood was celebratory from the start and never let up.

Toward the end of the night, they changed into their second looks: Gabriella in a sparkling bubble mini dress from Pronovias, and Markell in a bold shirtless vest custom-tailored for the reception.

The dance floor stayed full, kicked off by a relationship dance that built momentum with every beat: “Stay dancing if you’ve been together for X amount of years.” “It helped everyone feel excited and ready to party with us,” they said. As the party kept going, slices of pizza appeared—an easy, late-night pick-me-up that kept everyone dancing through the final hours.

"The team truly took the time to understand our vision and brought it to life with care and intention. We felt seen, supported, and completely stress-free on a day that could have easily been overwhelming."

Advice from the couple:

Find your “why” early—before the planning even begins. Whether it’s celebrating your love with your closest people, honoring your heritage, or simply creating a joyful experience, knowing your core reason will keep you grounded.

There were many moments when we felt overwhelmed or unsure, but returning to our “why” helped us make clear, intentional decisions. It reminded us of what truly mattered and helped us let go of things that didn’t align with our vision or values.
