A wedding that unfolds over several days always carries a different kind of energy. Carolyn and Ivan approached their celebration in Cabo San Lucas with that idea in mind, creating space for connection, movement, and moments that felt true to their life together. Planned by Amy Abbott Events, the weekend moved between Maravilla and Esperanza, blending relaxed design with a clear sense of rhythm. Each gathering had its own tone, yet everything felt cohesive. The result was not a single standout moment, but a series of experiences that built naturally into something deeply personal.
Location: Cabo San Lucas, Mexico
Style: Elegant, Modern, Romantic
Number of guests: 70
Setting: Resort
Season: Fall
Carolyn and Ivan met through mutual friends and built their relationship over time. Their story developed quietly across 15 years, shaped by shared experiences and everyday life. They welcomed three children and created a family long before planning a wedding.
The proposal reflected that same dynamic. It was intimate and low-key, without a grand gesture, but meaningful in a way that matched their connection. When they started planning, they did not aim for a traditional format. They wanted something that felt like them.
“We’ve been together for 15 years and have three kids, so we wanted the weekend to feel like a big, fun party with our closest friends and family — relaxed, not too formal, but filled with beautiful details.”
That intention shaped every decision. The focus stayed on people, not performance, and on creating an atmosphere where guests could spend real time together.
Welcome Party
The weekend began at Maravilla with a welcome party that set the tone immediately. Guests arrived to a seaside setting framed by a floral installation filled with bougainvillea and vibrant pink blooms. A hand-painted “Bienvenidos” sign greeted everyone, adding a personal and cultural touch.
The design leaned into warmth and color. Coral and blush tones layered across wooden tables, woven lamps added texture, and florals appeared generous but never overwhelming. Live mariachi music carried through the space, bringing movement and energy from the very beginning.
The evening felt open and social. People moved easily between conversations, drinks, and music. Amy Abbott Events approached the setup with a clear understanding of how the couple wanted the weekend to feel, keeping the design expressive yet grounded.
Rehearsal Dinner
The rehearsal dinner stayed at Maravilla but shifted the mood. Where the welcome party felt vibrant and energetic, this evening was more restrained and focused.
A single long table defined the space. Neutral linens created a clean base, while black tableware and sculptural vessels introduced contrast. Greenery ran through the center, adding softness without distracting from the overall composition. Candlelight and string lights overhead brought depth and warmth as the evening progressed.
The design reflected Ivan’s style and offered a quieter moment before the wedding day. Guests gathered in a more intimate setting, with conversation taking center stage. The transition between events felt intentional, showing how the weekend was carefully layered rather than repeated.
Bridal Fashion & Morning
The wedding day took place at Esperanza, with the ocean as a constant backdrop. The morning moved at an easy pace, allowing Carolyn to settle into the day without pressure.
She chose Danielle Frankel for the ceremony, drawn to its clean lines and sense of restraint. The silhouette felt modern and precise, without unnecessary detail. She paired the dress with Amina Muaddi heels she had selected before finding the gown.
Her look remained focused and intentional. Makeup by Hailey Hoff enhanced her natural features, while her overall styling avoided excess. Every element worked together without competing for attention.
Later in the evening, she changed into Vivienne Westwood. The second look introduced a more expressive shape, marking the shift from ceremony to celebration. The transition felt natural and aligned with the flow of the day.
Ivan wore a sage linen suit that reflected the setting and the overall tone of the weekend. The fabric and color felt relaxed, while still carrying a sense of occasion.
Ceremony
The ceremony took place overlooking the ocean at Esperanza. The setup remained simple, allowing the landscape to stay visible. A white rose-lined aisle led to a draped structure in soft cream tones.
Family played a central role. The couple’s daughter walked down the aisle alongside their two sons, and Carolyn’s father officiated the ceremony. These choices grounded the moment in something deeply personal.
Writing their own vows added another layer of meaning. The words reflected their 15 years together and the life they had already built. The ceremony did not rely on tradition alone. It focused on their story and the people closest to them.
Cocktail Hour & Private Moment
After the ceremony, guests moved into cocktail hour, where the energy began to shift again. Drinks circulated, and the setting opened up for conversation and movement. Signature cocktails and thoughtful details added personality. The ocean remained visible, and the light softened as the evening moved forward.
At some point during this transition, Carolyn and Ivan stepped away briefly. Captured by Hayleigh McKay Photos, the private moment gave them space to pause and take in what had just happened.
Decor & Reception
The reception design focused on layering rather than excess. Cristina G Flowers created soft and organic arrangements with roses and greenery.
Tablescapes stayed refined. Textures carried through linens, glassware, and florals, while lighting added dimension. Stage Pro handled draping and production. Amy Abbott Events maintained that balance throughout, ensuring every element worked together without feeling staged.
The reception unfolded as a continuation of the day. Guests moved naturally into the space, and the atmosphere built gradually.
One of the most memorable moments came when the couple’s children introduced them for the first dance, telling guests, “Hello everyone, please give an applause to our parents.” Carolyn and Ivan shared their first dance to “Video Games” by Lana Del Rey.
As the night progressed, the dance floor opened up. Music by DJ Alex Cabo Events kept the energy moving, and the celebration became more dynamic. Guests stayed engaged, and the atmosphere remained relaxed but lively.
Planned and produced by Amy Abbott Events, with planning led by Gaby Curiel, a longtime friend of Carolyn’s, the weekend reflected a clear understanding of what mattered most to the couple. Every moment was considered, allowing the atmosphere to stay relaxed and genuine. Over several days, the celebration unfolded in a way that felt natural for them, centered on family, connection, and time shared together.
