Inside a Desert-Inspired Dinner in NYC with Le Petite Privé, AD Catering & WedVibes

On August 4, 2025, The Foundry, a historic event venue in Long Island City, became a stage for an unforgettable summer soirée for wedding planners. “The concept came from one beautiful heatwave,” shares Xin Huang, founder of Le Petite Privé, a premium wedding planning company and the creative mind behind this striking evening. “We thought about how to use the most powerful element and lean into it for maximum effect. Weather is something we can’t hide or change, so creating a desert oasis seemed to make the most sense.”

The color scheme was intentionally tone-on-tone to keep the designed elements impactful. Curved corners softened the rectangular space and created a tiered conversation reprieve. Candlelight cast a warm, gentle glow, jazz music set the mood, and sand-toned stationery strengthened the ambiance—all set against the striking backdrop of the Queensboro Bridge, adding an unmistakable urban edge.

Fashion became a huge design element. “We shared an attire mood board so guests could feel connected to the concept. They became an integral part of the design,” Xin explains.

The menu and items were all meant to be very minimal. “For this dinner, we began with the creative direction from Xin, who is a true visionary,” says Alexandra Dettori, Founder and Executive Chef at AD Catering & Events. “She gave us the desert design foundation, and our role was to translate that into cuisine. I wanted the courses to be cohesive so guests feel fully transported into the story of the evening. We considered seasonality, the emotions the desert evokes, and the overall vibe we wanted people to experience.”

Guests were taken on a culinary journey through four courses. “We began with tomatoes – at their peak in August in New York, and I wanted to highlight that freshness in a way that felt light and inviting,” Alex goes. “The second course introduced a fried squash blossom with a lobster sauce, which brings in a richer, more decadent note. Because of that, the main course needed to offer balance. We served a poached monkfish in a Clarified broth, which was full of flavor yet still refined and light on the palate. Finally, dessert is where I believe indulgence should meet delicacy, something that feels cloud-like, transporting in its flavors but leaves only a beautiful memory rather than a heaviness.”

The AD Catering & Events team always approaches menu design as if hosting a loved one—it has to feel generous, thoughtful, and immersive.

WedVibes is honored to serve as a media partner for this picture-perfect evening, brought to life by a brilliant creative team and shared with some of the most inspiring talents in the wedding industry.
