Last year was a wedding year of new ideas taking center stage, with old traditions finding their way into modern times. Weddings got brighter, more diverse, and more exciting, and nowhere else did we see that so boldly represented than on the dessert table. As we look into this new wedding season, we want to keep the fun times rolling with predictions (and secret hopes and dreams) of the cakes we will be seeing in 2024 and beyond!
If you’re planning your own wedding this year, read on as the creative mind behind Alyce in Flourland, Alyce Dulaney, shares her insightful thoughts on cake shapes, flavors, and more. Embrace them to have a standout modern dessert that will leave your guests talking long after the celebration has ended.

All cakes showcased below are made with sweet love by Alyce in Flourland.
Vintage Cakes
The 80’s called, and vintage cakes are back! We love the delicate and bold piping making its way back into the mainstream, and now, instead of just white (though we are seeing a lot of those) vintage cakes in the modern day are taking hold of bold color palettes and never looking back! We can’t wait to see how this trend morphs and changes in the new year.
Boldly Colorful Cakes
No need to shy away from a bright orange cake or deep, black frosting. Your cake should reflect your theme and your personality. We love seeing our couples’ willingness to allow their desserts to be their own statement pieces!
"My favorite part of baking is knowing that I'm playing a part in someone’s Happily Ever After. My second favorite part is all the taste-testing."
Alyce Dulaney
Heart-Shaped Cakes
What says you love love more than a heart-shaped cake at your wedding? It’s so fun to create a moment with these heart cakes, pairing them with the vintage piping theme and topping it all off with fun writing to bring in a little modern edge.
Textural Cakes
Brides are veering away from the conventional smooth surfaces and gravitating towards textures like waves, tree bark, ridges, and ruffles. Textures bring sophistication, add tactile appeal, and even allow the cake to complement its surroundings seamlessly.
Flowers
We’re not talking about real flowers but delicate, beautiful, edible ones topping a cake. Those flowers could be made with a palette knife, sugar flowers, or expert buttercream piping so you can have your cake and eat it, too.
Cookie Butter
The French understand good desserts, and one of those yummy desserts they’ve created is memorialized as cookie butter (which the French refer to as “speculoos”). If you’re looking for the most delicious wedding cake you’ve ever had, Alyce will make you a cookie-cutter cake with crumbled biscoff cookies and cookie-cutter buttercream. It’s sweet, it’s cozy, and it’s trend-setting!
Less Is More
Instead of theming the cake to the event, we see couples surrounding their cake with their theme. With everything from meadow cakes, where a simple cake is surrounded by an explosion of flowers, to larger cake display corners, surrounded by fruit, garlands, and flowers, it’s a sweets-lovers heaven in the form of a wedding day.
Engagement and Anniversary Cakes
Why wait until you’re married for a cake? Why not celebrate all year long? And what happens if you forget to freeze a slice for that anniversary day? All are perfect occasions to order a cake and keep the celebration well past your wedding day!
Tiramisu Wedding Cake
This delicious dessert, created by the Italians, is the perfect inspiration for your wedding cake. At Alyce in Flourland, they make a vanilla bean cake with real coffee syrup, add an espresso mascarpone filling, and balanced vanilla buttercream for the yummiest cake for coffee lovers.
Cute Cutting Cakes
If you prefer to provide your guests with a dessert spread or a variety of options, you can skip the traditional wedding cake and opt for an adorable cutting cake tailored to your preferences. Most importantly, you won’t feel the need to share. More cake for you!
Bows
The bow trend is sweeping the nation, and we aren’t mad about it! What better way to celebrate the gift of marriage than with a giant cake wrapped in a bow? Or, add a touch of femininity with tiny bows surrounding your cake. You can even evoke the 80s with a retro cake pull (sometimes referred to as a ribbon pull) and soak up the ribbons for as long as possible!
