Joshua Tree at sunset has a way of slowing everyone down. Photographer Angelina Lusetti brought Brandon and Mimi into the park for a styled elopement, drawn in by how visibly in love they were. She kept things simple and tender, built around their connection rather than concept. She shot the day on both digital and film, soft desert light settling over each frame like the last quiet hour before dark.
Vision & Inspiration
Angelina Lusetti has a soft spot for Joshua Tree. She visits Southern California often, and a stop in the park is usually non-negotiable. For this shoot, she wanted to make a point about elopements: that smaller, more intimate weddings can still be intentional and fully documented, not treated as an afterthought.
She and the couple moved through the park chasing different angles of light, leaning into a mix of documentary and editorial styles. Brandon and Mimi are a real-life couple, engaged and headed toward their own wedding, which made their ease in front of the camera feel even more natural.
"I wanted to incorporate film intentionally into the shoot, knowing the desert light hits different on film. I shot digital and a mix of 35mm and medium format on a few different cameras (including the legendary Holga!). It was a treat to be creative and play during this shoot, and the film photos are some of my favorites."

Fashion
Mimi wore “Florence” from Meshki, an elegant strapless wedding gown with a drop waist and a cinch belt that gave the silhouette a modern edge. The skirt’s movement, paired with the belt’s definition, gave the look both softness and structure. Mimi did her own hair and makeup, keeping things natural and elevated rather than heavily styled.
Brandon’s suit came from H&M: a light beige linen that played well against both Mimi’s gown and the desert backdrop. The fit stayed relaxed without losing its shape, matching the shoot’s overall mood of polish without pretense.
Venue & Decor
The setting was Joshua Tree National Park itself, about an hour from Palm Springs. Weddings inside the park require a special use permit, along with a handful of guidelines: no drone photography, fresh florals only, and yes to both champagne and cake.
Lusetti kept design minimal on purpose, letting the rock formations and Joshua trees carry the visual weight. The only floral touch came from single-stem calla lilies in white with a soft blush edge, chosen for a look that felt elegant without overshadowing the landscape.
Respecting the park’s guidelines mattered throughout the day. Protecting the space means future couples can keep saying “I do” here too. The shoot wrapped with a champagne toast among the rock formations, giving the last stretch of photos a celebratory, end-of-night feel.
The day wasn’t without its challenges. Winter winds picked up as the sun dropped, and temperatures fell fast. Mimi’s coat made its way into the final set of photos, adding an unplanned but stylish layer to the closing scenes. The wind, as it turned out, gave the images an extra sense of movement.
Limited cell service inside the park turned into its own kind of gift, a forced reminder to stay present and let the desert do the talking.
