A Cabo Beach Wedding That Looks More Black Tie Than Vacation

When Lauren & Kaz started planning their wedding, they quickly realized chaos wasn’t their thing. With Bliss Events on board, they turned the process into a weekly ritual called Wedding Wednesdays, setting aside one day a week to make decisions, stay aligned, and keep planning from taking over their lives. That approach led to a private estate celebration in Cabo with a black dress code, a long white aisle styled like a fashion runway, and a calm beach setting.

Location: San José del Cabo, Baja California Sur, Mexico
Style: Black-tie, Coastal, Modern
Time of planning: 1 year
Number of guests: 115
Setting: Oceanfront Estate
Season: Spring

The lovebirds were set up on a blind date by a mutual friend and met at the Bay Club in Newport Beach, which already says a lot. The night became legend for one very specific reason: Kaz didn’t buy Lauren a drink! Ever since, it’s been lovingly held against him and brought up often enough to officially count as part of their origin story.

The proposal, on the other hand, was fully thought through. Cabo, sunset, a boat, and family on board, all framed as a casual post-Thanksgiving Christmas card shoot, everyone in white, photographer included. When Kaz asked for a few shots of just the two of them, Lauren had no reason to suspect a thing, until he dropped to one knee. The night wrapped at Acre, with his parents taking over The Blue Room, a curated menu, and thoughtful gifts from friends, because if you’re going to surprise someone, you might as well commit.

Bride's Morning & Fashion

Lauren didn’t go the easy beach-bride route. Instead of a lightweight, obvious option, she worked with local designer Veronica Koch of Veronique Bridal, taking an idea, turning it into a sketch, and then into a fully handcrafted gown. The process wasn’t instant or perfect on the first try either; her original sheath-style dress didn’t feel right, so she switched directions entirely, and that first design became part of the designer’s collection.

For accessories, she layered family history into the look, wearing her grandmother’s diamond necklace on the wedding day, pairing it with Amina Muaddi lace heels, and saving Kaz’s great-grandmother’s pearl necklace for the night before, styled with a Solace peplum dress.

Groom’s Fashion

Kaz went fully custom for the day, wearing a tuxedo made by David August. It was clean, classic, and perfectly sharp. He finished the look with black leather dress shoes by Hermès, keeping everything polished, intentional, and quietly confident.

Ceremony

The ceremony unfolded right on the beach, just steps from Casa Edwards, and was built entirely on contrast. Optic white led the visual language, the extra-long runway-style aisle, and oversized urns set sharply against sand, stone, and the warm beige tones of the coastline.

The floral arrangements by Pure Love Cabo avoided anything garden-like, focusing instead on bold, architectural compositions of delphinium, amaranthus, calla lilies, and an abundance of anthurium, all kept intentionally white to maintain visual discipline.  Bridesmaids stayed in all black as well, with Lauren curating their looks in advance to ensure no two dresses matched. Mothers of the bride and groom were dressed in cream, while Kaz’s groomsmen wore classic black suits.

The night before, guests shifted into sunset colors at One&Only Palmilla, creating a clear contrast between the softness of the welcome evening and the sharp, controlled palette of the ceremony day. With waves humming in the background and the Baja breeze moving through the space, the neutral palette allowed the ocean and dramatic coastline to take center stage.

Moments Together & Cocktail Hour

After the ceremony, the newlyweds carved out a quiet moment just for themselves, and that’s when Kaz showed her one of the most personal details of the day. Inside his tux jacket, the lining was printed with their Lake Como engagement photos, a private surprise that only the two of them really needed to see. Those moments were captured effortlessly by Hannah Bri, whose images throughout the day leaned into movement, emotion, and that in-between energy.

As guests moved into cocktail hour, the setting shifted completely. If the ceremony felt open and almost desert-like, all sand, white tones, and endless ocean, the cocktail hour unfolded like an oasis. Palm trees, lush greenery, and layered textures replaced the minimal shoreline, instantly changing the mood. Guests in head-to-toe black looked especially striking against the palms, turning the crowd itself into part of the design, sharp, graphic, and incredibly chic.

Thoughtfully planned by Bliss Events, every element of the cocktail hour felt considered and cohesive, from spatial flow to visual pacing. The escort board quickly became a main-character moment, drawing guests in and anchoring the space visually. Custom monograms appeared throughout cocktail hour, including on drinks, subtle branding that tied the whole experience together.

Lauren’s signature cocktail was a sweet vanilla margarita, while Kaz went classic with a Negroni, playfully renamed the “Kazeroni Negroni.” It was the perfect transition point, moving from ceremony calm into the buzz of the evening, without ever losing the visual thread.

Reception

The reception unfolded on a manicured lawn under cascading string lights, clean, white, and quietly cinematic. The layout was intentionally structured: tables were arranged in a square formation around the dance floor so every guest had a clear view, turning the evening into a shared experience. The palette stayed minimal, letting the lighting, food, and people do the work.

One of the most emotional installations of the night was a curated memory display filled with framed family photographs and personal moments, an intimate visual archive woven directly into the reception space. It grounded the celebration in history and relationships, adding depth without disrupting the aesthetic.

Dinner was served Argentinian-style, encouraging sharing, conversation, and long moments at the table. Guests later mentioned how unexpected the combination felt: restrained colors paired with bold, generous food, creating an atmosphere that felt warm, familial, and deeply communal. The first dance followed, set to Sweet Symphony by Chris Stapleton and Joy Oladokun.

As the night progressed, Lauren changed into a two-piece set from Rosie Etienne Bridal that shifted the mood from dinner to after-party without losing the fashion thread. Nearby, the sculptural cake echoed the fashion-forward feel of the day, draped and minimal, it looked more like a couture object than a traditional tiered centerpiece.

A cigar station featuring Cuban cigars appeared for guests, while Kaz’s father, surprised everyone with a tequila station inspired by Acre Baja, complete with curated tequilas and crickets for the adventurous. Just when the energy felt fully settled, fireworks lit up the sky at the end of the speeches, an unexpected finale that closed the night on a high and left guests stunned in the best way.

Advice from the couple:

Invest in the details that matter to you, not what’s trending. Your wedding should feel like an extension of your relationship — your style, your rhythm, your story. When you stay true to that, everything feels effortless and authentically beautiful.
