In her Vogue interview, she talked about how it wasn’t just a romantic milestone, it felt like something clicked. “The missing piece in my life was having real love,” she said.

December 2019: A Mother’s Intuition Sparked It All
Lady Gaga’s mother, Cynthia Germanotta, met tech entrepreneur and philanthropist Michael Polansky through their shared involvement in charity work. After just one encounter, she told her daughter, “I think I just met your husband.” Gaga wasn’t sure she was ready, but fate had other plans.

According to Gaga, she and Michael Polansky had their first real conversation at the party, a three-hour chat that shifted everything. He was drawn to her warmth and larger-than-life energy, while she was instantly intrigued by his calm, quiet intelligence. By the time they left, something between them had undeniably changed.
February 2020: Making It Official
On February 2, they were spotted together at Gaga’s AT&T TV Super Saturday Night performance, the day before the Super Bowl.

On February 4, Gaga posted a sweet, sunlit photo of her and Michael cuddled up, captioning it: “We had so much fun in Miami. Love to all my little monsters and fans, you’re the best!”
On Valentine’s Day (February 14), Gaga made it Instagram official one more time. She posted a sweet photo of the two of them with the caption:
“Happy Valentine’s Day!! Babe, do I have lipstick all over me? 😂 #valentines ❤️💋💋💋💋💋💋💋💋💋💋💕🧚♀️ Happy V-Day to all my monsters!!! I love you!!! ❤️😘🎈”
A bit later, she shared even more photos of the couple – romantic, playful, and undeniably heart-melting.

Spring 2020: Quarantine & Getting Closer
They called each other for weeks, then began dating, and soon quarantined together at Gaga’s home in Malibu. Gaga called it “really kind of special”, grateful that Michael wanted to know her outside of “Lady Gaga”. He described it as “an amazing chapter of a weird kind of normalcy”, with endless walks, coffee, books, dogs, and connection.
April 18: Gaga shared that she and Michael were working together on the “Together at Home” fundraiser, a global virtual concert event supporting COVID-19 relief efforts.

January 2021: A Moment in History
Michael was right there with Gaga as she sang the national anthem at Joe Biden’s inauguration. She had a huge moment in front of the whole country, and he was just there, calm, proud, and extremely supportive.

2022: Side-by-Side Through Awards Season
March 13: Michael Polansky accompanied Gaga to the BAFTAs, where she was nominated for her performance in House of Gucci. The couple then jetted straight to Los Angeles for the Critics Choice Awards. Gaga walked the red carpet solo, maintaining her signature star moment, but the two were spotted sitting together during the ceremony.
“I feel very grateful that I wasn’t alone,” Gaga said. “I had never met anyone like Michael. He’s so smart and so kind. And his life and my life are very different. He’s a very private guy and he’s not with me for any other reason than that we are right for each other.”

April 2024: Proposal
They got engaged after a day of rock climbing in April – classic them, a little adventurous, totally real. In October, during an interview with Jimmy Kimmel, Gaga opened up about the engagement, sharing that Polansky had been carrying the ring in his backpack and proposed as they were heading back to their room. She was glowing with happiness, radiating the energy of two people madly in love.
Summer 2024: Chromatica Tour
They toured together during the Chromatica Ball, a pivotal moment for Gaga both professionally and emotionally.
“Michael and I did that tour together. I feel like this new album, in a lot of ways, is about that time—but from a place of happiness instead of misery.”
Polansky’s influence was deeply felt: “He’s the person who told me to make a new pop record. He was like, ‘Babe, I love you. You need to make pop music.”

July 2024: Paris Olympics Soft Launch
Attending the opening ceremony together, Gaga introduced Polansky as her “fiancé” to government officials.
September 2024: Red Carpet Debut
Gaga and Polansky made their red-carpet debut at the Venice Film Festival for Joker: Folie à Deux, and it was a total power-couple moment. Gaga turned heads in a jaw-dropping Christian Dior Haute Couture gown with a dramatic Philip Treacy lace headpiece, while Polansky kept it classic wearing a tux.

October 2024: Vogue Cover & Interview
In her Vogue cover story, Gaga opened up about Polansky’s impact on her mental health and creative life.
“I’m just, like, so happy. I’m healthy,” she said. “The last time [my fans] heard from me—in this way—was Chromatica, and that album was about an absolutely horrible time for me… But everything started to change. Because I had a real friend who saw the ways in which I was unhappy and why.”

February 2025: Grammys
Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars take home Best Pop Duo/Group Performance at the Grammys. During her acceptance speech, Gaga takes a heartfelt moment to thank Michael Polansky for his endless support.
March 7, 2025: Mayhem & Motherhood Dreams
Lady Gaga dropped Mayhem, her first pop album since Chromatica, with Michael credited as both co-writer and executive producer. The record marked a creative rebirth, but also a personal one.

On Good Morning America, she revealed: “I want marriage and kids more than anything.” She added that she hadn’t known she wanted that until she met Polansky. He was the turning point.
“He just loves the whole me. I learn a lot from him. He’s so supportive. He’s got an incredibly kind heart. He’s my best friend. Being in a partnership with your best friend I feel like is a huge blessing. I couldn’t imagine going through life with anyone but him, honestly.”
Today: Planning a Life as a Creative Partnership
Now five years into their relationship, Gaga and Michael speak about art, science, music, and family as a shared vision. As Gaga says, “Being on the same page is essential to keeping a family all together.”
“We’re organizing our lives—and our marriage—around our creative output as a couple,” she adds. “Which is really different than, like, doing what other people want you to do.”
