A Gorgeous Summer Wedding on Top of Aspen Mountain

Location: Aspen, Colorado, The Little Nell
Setting: Top of Aspen mountain, gondola ride to the top, outdoor ceremony, indoor reception
Wedding season: Summer
Amount of guests: 180
Wedding theme/style: Simple, timeless, elegant, inspired by the beauty of Aspen
How long did the couple plan the event: 7 month.

Katie grew up going to Aspen, Colorado with her grandparents. It was always her dream to get married at The Little Nell. Mikhail told Katie he loved her for the first time in Aspen while they were there for his rugby tournament. The place has become very special to them. Katie actually booked the venue before he proposed. And we see why!

Mikhail Kosyan and Katie Bonneau met on Hinge in May of 2021. On their first date Mikhail picked Katie up for dinner and brought along a tennis ball as a gift to her beloved dog, Stella. The second date is infamous because Mikhail brought Katie to “paint gnomes” at a local brewery…the genius is that you have to have a third date to go pick them up 😉

Mikhail proposed on Christmas day in the same year in front of both of their families and Katie’s maternal grandparents. They were wearing matching Gnome pajamas. They did their engagement shoot with their wedding day photographer. Jacie Marguerite was a legend and made them feel super comfortable. By time the wedding came around, they trusted her implicitly.

As a result Jacie actually helped the lovebirds with much more than just great photos. She recommended that the couple do their “first look” in Aspen before riding the gondola to the top together. It allowed them to get even more incredible photos and spend even more time together on the wedding day.

There was a little cute detail – they made their beloved dog, Stella, a part of their first look.

Katie wanted everyone to feel their best. Bridesmaids weren’t given a lot of instruction – they wore champagne. Bride wanted to be simple and timeless. Low, sleek bun. Simple but elevated makeup. Although the wedding was in the mountains, the feel was formal.

The bride is notorious for her love of neutrals. When people asked what the “wedding colors” were, she always said “there is NO wedding color.” The entire theme was neutrals. White flowers with tons of greenery. White draping in the reception.

The couple wanted the wedding to be a perfect mix of both of their cultures. Mikhail is Armenian and was born in Eastern Europe. The couple incorporated traditional dancing, plate smashing, readings in both English and Russian, and more. Instead of a cake the sweethearts did a plated dessert tasting.

Music made the day unique! There was a lot of traditional Armenian music with traditional dancing to match.

Bride and groom changed into Adidas tracksuits for the second half of the reception. Adidas track suits are very popular in Easter Europe and the groom is a huge fan…so much so that he wore a bright red Adidas tracksuit on their second date (to paint gnomes).

Some advice from the couple:

• Enjoy! it truly goes by as fast as they say it does.

• Work with people you trust! Our photographer (Jacie Margueritte) was much more than a photographer to us. She really helped guide us through the whole process.

• Try to make the wedding a weekend affair! Spend time greeting guests and family during the rehearsal dinner and pre wedding events so you can soak up time together (as a couple) on the wedding day.

Mikahil and Katie spent the night together, woke up and walked their dog, got coffee, and relaxed before they had to go their separate ways to get ready. it was a great way to start the day and set intentions.
