Some love stories do not begin with fireworks. They begin quietly, in shared childhood spaces and familiar faces, and then one day everything shifts. This wedding at Lindesay House in Sydney felt exactly like that. With sweeping harbour views, overgrown florals, and a guest list of just 55, the day unfolded as a refined garden party that reflected who they truly are. Bella Dee captured it all in both digital and film, preserving not only the elegance of the setting but the warmth, faith, and joy that carried every moment.

Location: Sydney, New South Wales, Australia
Style: Romantic, Elegant, Classic
Time of planning: 1 year
Number of guests: 55
Setting: Garden
Season: Winter

Sarah and Byron have known each other for as long as they can remember. Their parents were friends before they were born, so their lives always ran in parallel. They were aware of one another, yet moved in different circles.

Everything changed in 2021 when Byron asked Sarah to join him for salsa dance lessons. That invitation shifted something. They began seeing each other differently, and what once felt familiar began to feel meaningful. Their relationship unfolded naturally from there. Byron proposed in December 2024 at Merribee, within a garden setting that felt intimate and romantic. The proposal mirrored the tone they would later carry into their wedding day: personal, heartfelt, and rooted in intention. From the very beginning of planning, they agreed that they wanted a celebration in Sydney that reflected their true selves and placed meaning at the heart of every decision.

Concept & Location

The couple drew inspiration from romantic European villas, hidden garden spaces, timeless architecture, and sweeping views over water. Lindesay House in Darling Point offered all of it. The historic property overlooks Sydney Harbour and carries an old world elegance that aligned instantly with their vision.

They shaped the day as a refined garden party with a neutral palette and soft, overgrown florals. Wedding Grounds led the styling and coordination, working closely with Heritage Floral Co. to bring the concept to life. The ceremony featured an asymmetrical floral nest overlooking the harbour, which later transitioned thoughtfully into the reception design.

The original plan involved a fully outdoor reception with the lawn flipped during cocktail hour. Weather predictions forced adjustments in the week leading up to the wedding. Wedding Grounds adapted quickly and collaborated with Matt Maitland Style to drape the Lindesay marquee for the reception instead.

"The final result stayed true to our original vision, exceeded every expectation, and left us feeling completely reassured and cared for throughout the entire wedding planning process."

Wedding Day

Bridal Morning & Fashion

Sarah wore the Esme gown by Floure Studio, a design that resonated with her from the very beginning. The dress featured delicate floral appliqués across the bodice, adding texture that echoed the surrounding florals. Early in the process, she chose to soften the neckline from its original two point shape into a gentler, more refined line that better reflected her vision.

She paired the gown with lace stiletto heels by Tony Bianco and Swarovski’s Mesmera necklace, a mixed cut tennis design that tapered to a point and subtly mirrored the neckline of the dress. Her bouquet by Heritage Floral Co. felt organic and refined, filled with soft white blooms and natural greenery.

The wedding morning felt calm and intimate. Sarah chose not to have a bridal party and instead spent the morning at the hotel surrounded by her family. Alyssa Adoncello created her makeup look with a polished yet luminous finish, whileChristine from Chris Styles Studio styled her hair into soft waves that complemented the gown’s romantic structure.

"As someone who typically stresses over everything, it still feels surprising how calm I was that morning, but it was the perfect beginning to the perfect day.”

Groom’s Getting Ready

Byron wore a custom double breasted tuxedo from Woolcott Street Tailors. The look felt clean, structured, and monochrome. Personalized embroidery of their initials and wedding date added a meaningful detail that remained understated.

He completed the look with a solid 18k gold ring engraved with the date and a private message for Sarah, along with a monochrome Tudor watch featuring a five link band. A crisp white pocket square finished the tuxedo and added contrast to the dark tailoring.

He described the morning as filled with elation and excitement. He began the day with a homemade breakfast at his family home, surrounded by support and anticipation. The atmosphere reflected their values, family centered and grounded.

Ceremony

The ceremony took place on the lawn at Lindesay House overlooking Sydney Harbour. Their former youth pastor officiated, bringing a deeply personal layer to the vows. Faith plays a central role in their relationship, and the ceremony reflected that fully.

Two close friends performed praise and worship songs, includingThe Blessing. During that song, the officiant spoke a private prayer over them. The moment felt still and intentional, inviting God into their marriage in a meaningful way.

Heritage Floral Co. designed the floral nest backdrop and overgrown aisle arrangements that framed the couple beautifully. Cadena Strings performed throughout the ceremony and continued into cocktail hour. The quartet later moved to the circular driveway, playing beneath a grand tree at the front of the property.

“For me, the most special moment was right after our first kiss as husband and wife, turning around and seeing all our loved ones cheering us on before walking back down the aisle.”

Decor & Details

The floral design remained cohesive from ceremony to reception. The team repurposed the ceremony nest into the marquee, maintaining visual continuity. Soft whites, pale greens, and natural foliage defined the tablescapes.

Matt Maitland Style draped the marquee ceiling, creating a layered, romantic effect that softened the structure. Round tables featured low floral arrangements in classic vessels paired with crisp linens and subtle lighting.

Catering by Doltone curated the dining experience, while The Little Gelato Cart added a playful layer during cocktail hour. Guests enjoyed canapés and drinks alongside a photobooth experience by Flashed Photobooths, which the couple intentionally placed during cocktail hour to keep energy high while they took portraits.

Instead of a traditional bouquet toss, Sarah dedicated her bouquet to both of their grandmothers, who coincidentally share the same birthday on December 11. She embraced her abuela, who had travelled from Peru, in a moment filled with tears and gratitude.

Private Moment

During the reception, Sarah and Byron slipped away to change for their surprise first dance. They met upstairs at Lindesay House, alone for a few minutes before returning to their guests. Sarah described it as one of the most memorable parts of the day: “Just the two of us, alone in the upper rooms of Lindesay, laughing through nerves and excitement, and barely believing we were about to perform for all our loved ones.”

Her second look held deep personal meaning. Her mother transformed a long sleeve Max Mara dress into a new style specifically for the dance. The love and care behind that transformation added another emotional layer to the moment.

Reception

The reception unfolded beneath the Lindesay marquee overlooking the gardens. Malo Malo, their live Latin band, set the tone for the evening. Music and culture form an essential part of their relationship, so sharing salsa and Latin rhythms with their guests felt natural.

Their first dance reflected how their story began. They performed to Gilberto Santa Rosa’s “Que Manera de Quererte,” working closely with Paola from Dance Mambo to choreograph the routine. The months of lessons became one of their favourite parts of planning, strengthening their connection through teamwork and laughter.

Bare & Berries created the cake, adding another meaningful contribution from someone close to them. Toasts felt heartfelt and intimate, reflecting the closeness of the guest list.

Belinda Damevska at Bella Dee moved fluidly between documentary style digital captures and nostalgic film frames throughout the evening. The dance floor photographs feel spontaneous and alive while still honoring the elegance of the setting. In the end, the celebration reflected exactly who they are. It balanced faith, family, music, and timeless design within one historic garden overlooking Sydney Harbour.

Advice from the couple:

Our biggest advice is to consider hiring a wedding coordinator if your budget allows. Emma from Wedding Grounds was invaluable. Her reassurance in the lead-up and her calm, capable presence on the day lifted so much pressure from us. It gave us confidence that any last-minute changes would be handled with care.

It is completely normal to feel stressed or worried during the process. At the same time, trust that your day will be beautiful regardless of the weather or small logistical shifts. Once you are standing there marrying the love of your life, those details truly fade away.
