Indonesian Heritage Meets Tuscany Style in This Bold Colorful Wedding

Monica and Nadhif’s destination wedding unfolded over three days of deeply personal celebrations, each one designed with intention, emotion, and visual boldness. From the sunflower-filled bridal brunch and folk dancing by the pool to a private vow exchange in the castle ruins and a red-draped reception under the stars, this sweet gathering the couple described as “a dream vacation with our closest loved ones.” Under the artistic direction of Alexander Gotama with Bespoke Unique Weddings and Events leading the planning and production of this complex event, the result was a celebration that honored Italian culture and natural beauty while staying rooted in what mattered most: presence, family, and shared joy.

Location: Tuscany, Italy
Style: Grand, joyful, romantic
Time of planning: 8 months
Number of guests: 150
Setting: Hotel
Season: Fall

Monica and Nadhif first met by chance at the Indonesian Stock Exchange, where a simple introduction led to the start of something lasting. Both entrepreneurs and heirs to respected family legacies, they quickly discovered a shared depth of values—family, tradition, and purpose. Their relationship grew across countries and time zones, grounded in mutual respect and emotional clarity. “Our love became the foundation we always returned to during the tough times,” said Nadhif. Seven months in, during a winter picnic in Tokyo’s Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden, he proposed to her, catching Monica entirely by surprise. “I was completely stunned, frozen in the moment, overwhelmed with joy,” she recalled.

Welcome Dinner

For the welcome dinner, the borgo at Rosewood Castiglion del Bosco was transformed into a glowing Tuscan night market filled with food, lights, and color. The design centered around a grand luminarie arch spelling out “Ti Amo,” setting the tone for the evening’s playful, open-air celebration. Rows of tables lined the courtyard, layered with creamy linens and floral arrangements bursting with seasonal fruit, vegetables, and herbs.

Decorative garlands of pine stretched between the stone façades,  and the team of Alexander Gotama and Bespoke Unique Weddings and Events orchestrated a seamless mix of warmth and vibrancy. Live mozzarella stations, wood-fired pizza from a ceramic-tiled oven, and towers of produce created the feel of a market come to life, while the lighting shifted the scene from golden hour into a twinkling street party.

Monica arrived in a pleated, pearl-toned gown by Danielle Frankel with a sheer shoulder scarf that floated as she walked beside Nadhif, who wore a navy pinstripe jacket over crisp white pants. The atmosphere was relaxed and festive, with a roaming band serenading guests through aperitivo and dinner, and the couple joining in on a plate of pasta Lady-and-the-Tramp style. The evening featured good food and wine, movement, laughter, and music—guests danced between courses, explored food stalls, and posed under the lights. By nightfall, the courtyard buzzed with sound and joy, setting the tone for the heartfelt moments still to come.

“We wanted our loved ones to experience the true spirit of Italian hospitality.”

Wedding Day

Morning of the wedding unfolded gently inside the stone-walled villa, where Monica began her day in soft light and quiet reflection. Wearing a romantic robe by Hian Tjen, she sat by the window while her veil—a custom piece by Biyan The Gallery—was carefully placed over her sleek bun. “There was something really peaceful about that moment, just me and my thoughts before it all began,” Monica shared later. Her ceremony gown by Vivienne Westwood balanced tradition and modern shape, with a sculpted off-the-shoulder neckline and clean architectural draping. Her Jimmy Choo pearl-accented heels added quiet sparkle.

Nadhif wore a custom tuxedo by Wong Hang Tailor—classic black velvet jacket, peak lapels, and a bowtie, styled with sharp restraint. He spent part of the morning quietly tying his cufflinks across the room from Monica, glancing up at her in moments that photographer Amrit Photography captured with documentary softness.

Ceremony

The ceremony took place in the castle ruins with its quiet strength and natural grandeur. Framed by towering cypress trees and stone walls softened by time, the ceremony decor leaned into the wild elegance of the surroundings. The floral installation drew entirely from the Tuscan landscape, using layers of green textures, cascading moss, and white blooms that gave the altar a forest-like feel. No bold colors, just thoughtful restraint. The aisle itself was a curved trail of white petals leading to a grounded floral arch. “We kept the colors simple and classic, using only different shades of greens and white,” Monica shared. It created an atmosphere that felt sacred and dreamlike.

Unlike their traditional Indonesian weddings, this moment was entirely their own. Just Monica, Nadhif, the celebrant, and a harpist—no guests, no traditions to follow. They read their vows aloud and sealed a second version inside a wine bottle, following a local Tuscan ritual they’ll revisit on their fifth anniversary.  As they stood facing one another, holding hands and reading words written in their own voices, everything else faded away. The stillness, the music, the soft light filtering through the trees—it all served one purpose: to hold space for a promise.

“This moment was incredibly personal for us. In Indonesia, the vow exchange is done by the fathers, not the couple, so this was something completely new.”

After the ceremony, Monica and Nadhif slipped away for a quiet walk through the estate’s wooded paths, just the two of them. The stillness of the afternoon, paired with the soft light filtering through the trees, allowed them to take in what had just happened—without distraction, without words. It was in these in-between moments that Amrit Photography shone: capturing their love, allowing the intimacy of their connection to speak for itself.

"Monica has always loved the way the trees transform in autumn, so we both knew from the start that our wedding would take place during this magical season."

Decor & Setting

The reception took place inside a custom-built clear marquee nestled in the garden of Villa Sant’Anna. Its entire glass facade was covered with cascading red roses, glowing from the inside like a lantern of blooms. Guests entered through a candlelit pathway and passed beneath rose garland curtains before stepping into a world of dramatic romance. Inside, red velvet drapes rippled across the ceiling like opera curtains, paired with hanging tapered candles and floral chandeliers that filled the air with movement and light.

Long banquet tables ran the length of the marquee, layered with sculptural florals in deep crimson, antique bronze, and sandy pink tones. Each place setting featured gold-accented chargers, plum-hued linens, and personalized menus sealed in crimson envelopes. Tall candelabras cast a soft, flickering glow across the room, while lush branches climbed up the clear ceiling, blurring the line between nature and structure. With every design direction given by Alexander Gotama, the planner produced and created an atmosphere that was exactly what Monica envisioned: “something dramatic in the décor… filled with romantic passion.”

Reception

Dinner began with a formal entrance, as Monica and Nadhif stepped into the marquee hand in hand to the sound of applause. Monica changed into a full lace gown by Monique Lhuillier, paired with a structured bouquet of deep plum calla lilies—an unconventional shape that mirrored the mood of the evening. Guests were already seated, champagne was poured, and the energy in the room was palpable. Plates of truffle risotto and fine local courses were served one by one, timed perfectly with the music that unfolded around them.

A live 12-piece band played throughout dinner, weaving in classics and modern ballads while guests swayed in their chairs, some even getting up between courses to dance. The couple shared their first dance under the layered florals and soft stage lights, while their families watched just feet away.

One of the most emotional moments came when Monica danced with her father, then welcomed both sets of parents and siblings to the dance floor for a shared family moment.

The cake cutting was a cultural fusion: a traditional Italian millefoglie decorated with berries. The formal dinner ended in a wave of joy—filled with clapping, laughter, and the shared sense that something rare had just taken place.

Night Celebration

As the evening transitioned into full celebration, Monica changed into her final look: a shimmering, beaded corset mini dress by Kim Kassas with long sheer sleeves and a dramatic detachable train. Her René Caovilla heels sparkled under the lights as she and Nadhif returned to the dance floor, this time ready to let loose. The band amped up the tempo, and the atmosphere shifted—stage lights cutting through florals, live vocals echoing across the marquee, and guests crowding the floor.

Poolside Brunch

The poolside brunch took place under a warm Tuscan sky, overlooking the rolling hills and soft clouds below. Inspired by Monica’s love of Italian summer, the setup glowed in tones of yellow and green—sunflowers, citrus, and soft linen tables arranged around the pool. Yellow-and-white parasols framed the space with playful symmetry, while floating blooms in the water reflected the palette above. Chairs were draped with custom-printed silk scarves as part of the table styling, adding a personal touch and a takeaway for each guest.

Monica wore a Calle Del Mar bralette, vintage lace mini skirt, and a silk Club Monaco blazer—paired with dark sunglasses and diamonds, her look felt like an editorial pulled from the pages of summer. Aperol spritzes glinted in the sun, and lounge areas with custom yellow-and-green pillows invited guests to relax between dances. And then came the Sgroppino show with limoncello, music, and champagne.

Entertainment came in the form of a 12-piece Italian folk band, who didn’t just perform, but taught guests to dance. Tambourines were passed out, and within minutes, a full circle had formed on the stone deck. People clapped, laughed, followed the choreography, and waved their scarves in rhythm. The mood was loose and high-spirited, with the kind of energy that feels spontaneous but was carefully directed by Bespoke Unique Weddings and Events. This kind of escalating fun could only end one way: fully dressed guests diving into the pool.

"The team did an amazing job bringing our vision to life."
