There are weddings that are simply beautiful. And then there are weddings that feel authored. Mckensi Graham and Matt Paradis’ Carmel Valley celebration belongs firmly in the second category — layered with references, humor, heritage, and intention. It unfolded over an entire weekend that balanced Italian romance with Western ease, couture silhouettes with cowboy hats, and saturated chartreuse with heirloom tomatoes still on the vine. And, of course, there was the Slim Aarons–style recovery party by the pool, with their golden retriever trotting between guests, giving and getting hugs.
Set at Stonepine Estate overlooking the Santa Lucia Mountains, the multi-day celebration unfolded like a series of chapters. This is the kind of wedding that makes you want to pour a glass of champagne and linger over every carefully considered detail.
Location: Carmel Valley, California, USA
Style: Fashion-Driven, Italian-Inspired
Time of planning: 1 year
Number of guests: 110
Setting: Estate
Season: Summer
Matt Paradis, a former NFL center and Super Bowl champion, now works in commercial real estate investing. Mckensi Graham is a director in healthcare advertising with a distinct love for vintage design, European travel, and collecting meaningful objects. They met through neighbors at Workman’s Friend, a local Irish pub in Charlotte. At the time, Matt was living in Boise.
“I wasn’t interested in a long-distance relationship, and tried to say no, but he told me that we wouldn’t go more than ten days without seeing each other — and then hung up.” He kept that promise.
Two years later, after attending a friend’s wedding in Greece, they extended the trip to Italy. The proposal happened on a boat along the Amalfi Coast.
“When Matt joined it started slightly drizzling then just as he got down on one knee, the wake from a nearby boat nearly tipped us over. I honestly wasn’t sure if he was proposing or just taking a knee as he caught me and steadied me, but then he pulled the ring from his pocket.” They celebrated in Capri, which has since become one of their favorite places.
Why Carmel Valley & Concept
“I dreamt of Italy and he dreamt of mountains, and this spot, overlooking the Santa Lucia Mountains, felt like the perfect meeting point,” shared the bride.
Stonepine Estate feels like a private Italian ranch — creamy stucco walls, black shutters, terracotta roofs, gravel courtyards, olive trees. Guests stayed across the property, transforming the wedding into a shared retreat.
From the beginning, they envisioned a multi-day experience rooted in juxtaposition: European romance layered over Western references. Structured fashion against organic produce. Chartreuse silk, Mckensi’s favorite color, beside terracotta pottery. Old-world lace paired with modern silhouettes.
Wild Heart Events translated these ideas into something cohesive and experiential. They balanced sculptural ceremony seating with bold color moments and ensured that each setting felt distinct yet connected. The scale of work behind it was colossal, and the final execution felt genuinely mind-blowing.
Welcome Party: An Italian Market in Motion
The welcome evening set the tone with an Italian market sensibility. Instead of traditional florals, locally grown tomato vines spilled from ceramic vessels and wooden shelves behind a rope-wrapped bar, joined by potted herbs and seasonal produce. The palette felt earthy and sun-warmed.
Long wooden tables were dressed with loose linen, baguettes, and citrus, while a parmesan wheel pasta station and a handwritten bruschetta menu added just enough theater. Aperol and limoncello spritzes caught the late-afternoon light as musicians played Italian classics beneath the estate’s arched colonnades.
The overall effect felt abundant yet restrained. Rustic details were layered with intention and framed by Mediterranean architecture and California light. It felt like Italy, translated through California light.
Guests showed up in bold, expressive color. And right in the middle of it all was Mckensi in her sculptural Valentino-inspired look, holding the whole scene together. “Once I found Lauren at The LG Project, it was a dream,” added the bride. Matt wore a custom ivory suit, relaxed but sharply tailored, reinforcing the weekend’s balance between polish and ease.
Wedding Day
Bridal Morning & Fashion
On the morning of the ceremony, Mckensi alternated between a vintage Christian Dior silk set and a butter-yellow satin robe trimmed in lace and ostrich feathers.
“I actually didn’t have any nerves the morning of and I can definitely thank these outfits for some of that,” added the bride.
For the ceremony, she chose a sculptural gown with a ruched bodice and architectural volume, pairing it with a bouquet of sculptural white calla lilies and anthuriums, clean and architectural in contrast to the surrounding greenery. “The ceremony gown made me feel sculptural, elegant, and full of presence.”
Her beauty look by Nicole Samara remained refined and luminous. Softly defined eyes, glowing skin, and hair styled in polished, effortless waves framed the structure of the gown without competing with it. The silhouette held its own against the open greenery of the estate. Structured yet fluid, it felt modern without sacrificing timelessness.
Groom’s Getting Ready
Matt’s ivory tuxedo was clean-lined and understated. A private detail — a photograph from their engagement session sewn into the lining — added intimacy no one else could see.
First Look
They chose to do a first look before guests arrived. “I think this took some of the nerves away too, then after this we went and took a tequila shot together,” added the bride.
The moment felt playful and grounding. Emily Magers captured it all delicately on both film and digital, preserving the intimacy without ever intruding on it.
Ceremony
The ceremony unfolded outdoors with satin-white benches and sculptural floral installations. Layered Vintage incorporated balloon plant, smokebush, and deep burgundy accents against chartreuse tones. Bouclé chairs and curved forms softened the modern seating layout.
Mckensi walked down the aisle to “Turning Page.” The recessional surprised guests with an instrumental version of Drake’s “Over” by Strings By Paris. Only a few guests caught the reference, which made it even more satisfying.
After the ceremony, applause and laughter filled the lawn as Matt dipped Mckensi in a spontaneous kiss, her veil catching the light. So cinematic.
Cocktail Hour
Cocktail hour took place near the pool, with guests in black tie and rich jewel tones. Custom old-fashioned featured M&M-branded oranges. PARADIS was stamped into the bread, a detail inspired by a Jacquemus pop-up invitation Mckensi had saved. Swans served as place cards.
“I truly care about a ‘guest experience’, this day is about Matt and I, but I love our family and friends so much and want to make everyone feel special,” shared the bride.
Custom scarves traced their story from North Carolina to Idaho to Italy and finally California. Guests later sent photos wearing the hoodies and scarves around the world, turning it into a friendly competition.
Sunset Private Moment
Before guests entered the reception, they stepped inside to see the space alone. “We asked to see the reception entrance/reception area before any guests joined, and that was such a special moment,” shared the couple.
They practiced a twirl and then retreated to the piano room with hors d’oeuvres. “Seeing their reactions and having that alone time to ground each other and spend time together was amazing,” recalled the couple.
Emily Magers documented this quiet pause on film, giving the images a nostalgic glow that contrasts beautifully with the bold reception palette.
Decor & Design
The reception blended vintage lace tablecloths with sleek chartreuse velvet chairs. A satin bar glowed beneath dramaticdraped florals. The custom dance floor matched the DJ booth in tone, creating a seamless visual statement.
Wild Heart Events managed the bold color story with restraint, ensuring that chartreuse and burgundy enhanced rather than overwhelmed the estate’s natural palette. Black Candy Design created a dramatic ruffled escort display in chartreuse chiffon that cascaded from a balcony, inspired by Priyanka Chopra’s iconic veil. The installation became a sculptural focal point.
Layered Vintage wove balloon plant, hydrangea, dahlia, and textural greens into modern compositions that felt playful yet elevated.
Reception
Their first dance to “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You” by Frankie Valli built energy quickly. “It made it fun for us and fun for our guests.” Live trumpets and saxophones joined Off the Record DJs to keep the dance floor alive.
For dinner, the bride changed into a 1920s vintage gown. “It is from the 20s and originally designed with sleeves and a high crew neck, but the material was striking.” The silhouette was reworked into a strapless corseted form while preserving original embellishments. Ostrich feathers were added at the hem for movement and drama. The look felt old-world yet unmistakably modern.
Recovery Day
The final chapter unfolded under a bright California sun. It felt like a natural exhale. The Slim Aarons–inspired pool party leaned into 60s Riviera glamour with a playful twist. Chartreuse loungers lined the water. Striped umbrellas cast graphic shadows. Guests floated on oversized inflatables with citrus cocktails in hand. Custom paddles and PARADIS-branded tennis balls added subtle branding.
Mckensi wore lace trousers with a white halter swim top, later changing into swimwear styled with a scarf. Friends lounged in 437 and Agua Bendita pieces, oversized sunglasses, and headscarves — effortlessly editorial.
Advice from the couple:
• I mentioned earlier how meaningful it was to experience your reception space before guests enter. I would recommend that to every couple. I would also say that having an amazing planner and vendor team truly changes everything. When you bring bold ideas to the table or feel overwhelmed during the day, they support you without judgment, steady you, and keep the energy positive. My husband didn’t fully understand that until he experienced it himself, and he hasn’t stopped praising our planner and photographer since.
