There’s something magnetic about a wedding concept that dares to center around a single, vibrant hue, and even more so when that hue is sunshine yellow. For this styled shoot at Old Sessions House in London, the creative team embraced the challenge of turning a bold palette into a romantic and modern editorial. With film photography, sculptural florals, and artful details, the day unfolded like a painterly love letter to joy, light, and intentional design.

Rachel Wood and Joy by Ash led the photography and concept development, while Amanda Whiston took charge of planning and styling. Every element they captured felt deliberate, each frame shaped by emotion, rhythm, and the quiet intensity of light moving through time-worn walls.

Inspiration & Concept

The creative direction started with a conversation between Ash and floral designer Kate Floweran. “We loved the idea of sunshine yellow and molten metallics—a combination that felt unexpected and beautifully bold,” Ash shared. From that spark, the team built a world that blended soft silks and structured silhouettes with sculptural blooms and unconventional styling. The mood was modern romantic, with a quiet strength that let every element breathe.

The team also took visual cues from the iconic Santa Clara 1728 editorial by Kristin Piteo. While the original story leaned into warmth and minimalism, this version introduced a more textural, editorial layer, where citrus fruits, painterly backdrops, and British bridal fashion offered a fresh, grounded take on spring styling.

Location

For a shoot rooted in warmth and history, Old Sessions House offered the perfect foundation. Located in Farringdon and originally built in 1782, the building is now a Grade II listed space with a layered past: once a courthouse, later the headquarters of a weighing scale manufacturer, and eventually a Masonic Lodge. Today, it’s home to a private member’s club and a sought-after event venue.

The shoot took place in the Showroom—a space filled with natural light, rough plastered walls, and unfinished wood floors. The atmosphere was intimate but full of character. Sunlight poured in through skylights, refracting off a vintage chandelier and scattering subtle rainbows across the room. It was the kind of space that doesn’t compete with the styling but instead elevates every color, shadow, and touch of detail.

Fashion

The fashion narrative was all about British craftsmanship and pared-back elegance. The bridal wardrobe featured pieces from Halfpenny London, Bon Bridé, and Coutille, all carefully curated by Amare Bride. The result was a thoughtful, minimalist vision where the emphasis rested on texture and silhouette.

For bridal prep, a silk and lace GIGI mini by Coutille brought a sense of playfulness, offering a second-look option with impact. The main bridal looks included the Spencer Corset and Amy Skirt by Halfpenny London and the BB:77 gown by Bon Bridé. Bold, modern and deeply feminine.

Accessories were chosen with the same quiet precision. A lace-edged veil by Hayze Bridal added softness to sharper lines, while the sculptural “bridal nest” bag from Isla de Gar introduced a modern twist. Jewelry from Botias Accessories and Kiri & Belle, alongside a bespoke ring by Rachel Muscat London, completed the looks with delicacy and intention.

Beauty echoed this approach. Makeup artist Amber Harlow created a soft glow with delicate pink tones that enhanced the bride’s natural features without overpowering. Hair artist Anna from Ana Vas Studio added movement with brushed-out curls that nodded to old-Hollywood charm while feeling entirely modern. It was editorial, yet romantic — perfectly in tune with the palette of the day.

Deсor with a Citrus Pulse

Stylistically, this shoot was a masterclass in balance. Joyful but restrained, natural but elevated. At the center of the decor was the floral storytelling by Kate Floweran, whose yellow arrangements brought texture and life to every frame. She used daffodils, irises, and yellow fritillaries in full, sculptural groupings, spilling over mantels and gathered gently on the table in small metallic vessels.

Candles in neutral tones brought height and warmth, flickering against the raw plaster walls. And the table, draped in white linen with soft gathers, was styled by Amanda Whiston Events with a romantic eye and editorial sensibility. Amanda’s touch was especially felt in the way each element was curated to feel light, natural, and intentional. Nothing was overdone, and every vignette, from floor arrangements to mantle styling, felt rooted in artistry and emotion.

One of the standout design features came from illustrator Vic Riches, who joined the shoot to paint live throughout the day. Her pieces, inspired by the couple, the palette, and the movement of the moment, later became a backdrop that blurred the lines between fashion, photography, and fine art. She captured the love between our couple, the colour, joy, fabrics & intricate details,” Ash shared. The scene brought something fresh and deeply personal to the editorial.

The couple, models Michaela and Joe, brought natural chemistry to every frame, especially during quiet moments near the cake. Designed by Meera Makes, the cake echoed the day’s sculptural styling with gathered fondant folds that mirrored the draped linens and bridal silhouettes. From the Parisian-esque staircase to the hand-painted backdrop, every corner was carefully used to tell a cohesive story of joy and design.
