So, we did what we do best: reached out to real brides who are planning weddings their way. From spontaneous proposals to guest lists made on Google Docs, these brides are rewriting the rules and curating celebrations that feel less like tradition and more like self-expression.

Meet The Couple
Sofia and Angus, originally from London, spent the last few years living together in Amsterdam before Angus recently moved to the US, leaving the two navigating long distance while planning their wedding. Sofia is Senior Strategy Director at Highsnobiety and a DJ; Angus is Production Director at Nike. They’ve already had a small wedding in New York, just the two of them, so this next one is round two, this time with all their favorite people.
How did you meet?
We met at our first ad agency, BBH, on the streets of Soho. We became best pals first, spent far too much time together, and eventually fell in love.
The Proposal
A gorgeous walk through the forest, followed by the proposal, champagne and a hot tub.. just the two of us. Perfect.
The Wedding Vision
1. When and where is your wedding taking place?
Next August at El Molí de la Torre in Catalonia, Spain.
2. Describe your wedding in 3 words.
Energy. Unexpected. Party.
3. What are three non-negotiable elements for your big day?
Music is going to be at the heart of everything. Our friends will be performing throughout the day and night, so we want music to feel like part of the fabric of the wedding rather than something that simply starts once dinner is over.
The lighting is also a big one. We want it dark, moody and atmospheric, with lots of red. Nothing too bright, clean or traditionally “wedding”.
And then, obviously, the energy. We want people dancing, eating, drinking, meeting people they’ve never met before and having the kind of weekend they talk about forever, or at least the next day tehe.

Planning Process
1. What’s been the highlight of your planning process so far?
Finding the venue, without a doubt. Catalonia has always been important to us because it’s where my grandparents lived, so we knew we wanted to get married there.
Then we found El Molí de la Torre, right next to our village. It’s beautiful, but not in an overly perfect way. It has loads of character, history, Dalí used to paint there too!
2. What’s surprised you most about wedding planning?
There are so many things you’re told you should do, have, wear, or include. We’ve basically been going through the list, asking ourselves: but do we actually want that? And usually the answer is no.
3. Is there an Instagram account, TikTok trend, or aesthetic you’re secretly loving right now?
This photo of a martini tap is probably the closest thing I have to a current wedding aesthetic. I’m much more interested in the little details that make a wedding feel like the people getting married, unexpected, and silly but also chic.
4. What’s one piece of advice you’d give to someone just starting their planning journey?
Work out what actually matters to you two before getting sucked into what a wedding is “supposed” to look like. Define your taste profiles early, once you know what feels like you, the rest becomes a lot easier.
