At WedVibes, we’re always drawn to the stories behind the aesthetics—the vision boards, voice notes, and late-night Pinterest scrolls that quietly shape iconic wedding moments. So, we did what we do best: reached out to real brides who are planning weddings their way. From spontaneous proposals to guest lists made on Google Docs, these brides are rewriting the rules and curating celebrations that feel less like tradition and more like self-expression.
In this series, they open up about the moodboards they can’t stop tweaking, the TikTok trends they’re into, and the vendors who just get it. Expect real love stories, real planning highs (and lows), and plenty of inspiration for your own “main character” moment.
Meet The Couple
Katie and her fiancé, Paul, are a perfect example of how, as they say, “opposites attract.” Katie is outgoing and energetic, occasionally impatient, while Paul is calm, cool, and collected, creating a balance that comes naturally to them both. They live in Raleigh, North Carolina, where Katie works full-time as a pharmacist at a rare-disease pharmaceutical company, and Paul works in sales. Outside of work, they love staying active together, from gym sessions to pilates, and Katie, who is incredibly social, cherishes spending time with her friends, whom she considers her second family.
How did you meet?
Paul and I met during our senior year of college at one of his fraternity brother’s parties. I remember seeing him across the room and telling my friends, “Oh wow… that is exactly my type.” I immediately went to our mutual friend to confirm he was single, and once I got the green light, I marched right up and introduced myself. I’m pretty sure I did all the talking and barely let him get a word in—but after more than five years together, I’ve definitely learned to be a much better listener.
The Proposal
It’s funny because I’m notoriously hard to surprise, yet I had always told Paul that when it came to our engagement, I genuinely wanted to be surprised. The challenge, of course, is that I’m a very type-A, extreme planner. Earlier this year, I found out I’d be traveling to Amsterdam for work, and Paul and I decided he would fly out afterward so we could spend a few days together. I was so excited about a wine and cheese pairing boat tour I had booked—truly the thing I was looking forward to most on the trip.
On the day of the tour, Paul put the directions into the map for us to walk there… except he secretly led me to a private boat experience he had arranged without me knowing. Just as the sun was setting, the “boat driver” offered to take our photo. Naturally, I said yes—who wouldn’t want a picture on the water in Amsterdam? As I handed her my phone, Paul got down on one knee, said the most beautiful words, and asked me to marry him. Only afterward did I learn the best part: our “boat driver” was actually a photographer he had hired, posing as our guide. It was absolutely perfect.
The Wedding Vision
1. When and where is your wedding taking place?
Our wedding is taking place at The Mackey House in Savannah, GA, on May 7, 2027.
2. Describe your wedding in 3 words.
Chic, Vogue, Old Money.
3. What are three non-negotiable elements for your big day?
I want to set aside a moment after the ceremony for just Paul and me to be together—talk about the ceremony, take in the fact that we’re officially married, and really soak in everything before we join our guests. One idea we’re considering is having a plated dinner for the two of us while everyone else goes through the buffet. While guests are getting their food, we’d take 10–15 minutes to enjoy our meal privately and spend a quiet moment together.
High-quality photography, videography, and hair & makeup are also essential.
And finally, having a timeless, aesthetically cohesive ceremony and reception that reflects my vision is a must.

Planning Process
1. What’s been the highlight of your planning process so far?
Wedding dress shopping! I’ve always had such a love for fashion, so I knew this would be one of the most exciting parts for me—especially as someone who has dreamed about her wedding dress since she was a little girl. Not only do I love the feeling of trying on the gowns, but seeing my friends’ and family’s reactions makes it even more meaningful.
2. Is there an Instagram account, TikTok trend, or aesthetic you’re secretly loving right now?
Something I am loving right now is having an all black formal attire dress code. I think it is so chic and timeless, and it makes the wedding look so cohesive. Also, I am LOVING the wedding content creators. This was a must for me to capture all the behind-the-scenes of the most important day of my life. I booked @the.mrs.pov on Instagram, and I am so excited. Her work blew me away.
3. What’s one piece of advice you’d give to someone just starting their planning journey?
I know people will tell you, “You have so much time to plan,” but I have found myself less stressed starting right after the engagement. This ensures I can lock in the best-of-the-best vendors, especially in the areas most important to me. I think if you can lock down the important things to you right at the beginning, everything will be smoother sailing in the long run.
