Not every wedding detail becomes a memory. But with Sugar Alkymi‘s live chocolate painting, the line between art and dessert blurs into something unforgettable — a multisensory performance that turns emotion into edible beauty. At a recent editorial at Topa Vista, a golden-hour tablescape set the stage for something unexpectedly intimate. Amidst sculptural florals, textured linens, and sun-drenched crystal, each guest’s place setting held a hand-painted chocolate tile: personalized, poetic, and shimmering with gold leaf. But this was just the beginning.
How It All Started
Sahar Masarati, the artist behind Sugar Alkymi, has long redefined what edible art can be. Known for her painterly cakes and rich storytelling, she introduced chocolate as a medium for emotional expression back in 2019, when she launched her “7 Days to Cultivate Creativity” course. What started as a way to unlock imagination has now evolved into something rare in the event world: a live art performance that’s deeply personal and delicious.
"I was fascinated by how edible mediums could open up imagination in ways that traditional materials couldn't. It was in those early workshops that the seed of this idea was planted.”

In early 2025, she debuted this new chapter at a private shoot at Sunstone Winery. As the sun dipped lower, Sahar picked up her brush and started painting. The strokes were simple, unhurried, and easy to follow — chocolate turning into petals, lines becoming shapes. Guests stood nearby, watching with quiet curiosity. It felt like something new, but also familiar.
Born from Stillness, Driven by Clarity
This offering was born during a season of profound personal change. After overcoming breast cancer in 2024, Sahar returned to creation with fresh clarity, not to reclaim the past, but to redefine what her work could become. “Live chocolate painting was born from stillness,” she shares. “But what I offer now isn’t about illness or recovery—it’s about presence, beauty, and storytelling.”
When a friend observed her painting and called the experience “poetic and soothing,” it was the moment that sparked something new. What had once been a private creative ritual became a performance to be shared.
Sensory Performance
At the styled shoot, Sugar Alkymi‘s signature chocolate tiles served as both decor and narrative. Each tile was placed with intention: some bearing names, others holding delicate florals painted in cocoa and dusted with edible gold. Against heirloom plates and silk napkins, they became tiny, tangible stories waiting to be tasted. As twilight fell, guests gathered to watch Sahar paint live.
The resulting piece, a bouquet rendered in layered chocolate strokes, was framed on-site. Equal parts sculpture, dessert, and visual poetry, it captured not just the moment but the mood of the entire evening.
New Genre in Luxury Events
The live chocolate painting is more than entertainment. It’s a grounding, intimate experience that invites guests to feel. Whether created for weddings, brand launches, or private dinners, each performance is fully bespoke, anchored in emotion, inspired by story, and elevated by execution. “This isn’t just entertainment—it’s connection, emotion, and often healing for those watching or participating,” Sahar explains. “It informs everything.”
It’s been described as everything from “unexpected” to “transformative.” What makes it stand out isn’t just how it looks — it’s how it slows time down. In a fast world, this experience gives guests a reason to pause and feel.
What's Next
Sugar Alkymi continues to evolve the art of edible storytelling. Alongside live performances, Sahar offers creativity workshops and collaborates on destination events where food, art, and emotion intersect. Her mission is simple: to create art that lingers, not just on the palate, but in memory.
"I'm honored to be the first artist to bring it into the luxury wedding and event space, and I hope it opens the door for more meaningful artistic experiences in our industry.”
