A Renaissance of Love runs a fashion editorial through the actual logic of Renaissance painting, a table composed like a still life, one deep color pulling the whole palette into line. Photographer Johanna Hollstein shot it inside a decaying Tudor Gothic manor, and her read on aged rooms and low window light is what keeps the series in fashion territory rather than costume drama. Artiage Exklusive Hochzeiten led art direction and planning, with Vanessas Hochzeitszauber coordinating the day.
The manor is Herrenhaus Vogelsang, out in the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern countryside, a house that sat in ruins until its current owner bought it in 2010 and started restoring it room by room. Cracked plaster, stucco ceilings and tall arched windows already held the exact texture and light the team was after. For Johanna, the house and the theme were the same story.
“The history of this house is the history of our theme. A place that was rediscovered in order to shine again. That, for me, is the heart of A Renaissance of Love.”
Getting Ready
The morning is where the fashion argument gets made. The bridal looks come from Gerbaulet Bridal, a Berlin label built on a mix and match idea, tops and skirts designed as separates rather than one fixed gown.
Hair and makeup by Brautstyling Nikky Riemer pulled the beauty references straight from the period, an almost red flush sitting high on the cheek, eyes kept soft, a stained red lip, then a scatter of freckles left visible to keep the whole thing in 2026.
On the groom’s side, Uncle & Nephew kept it classic, a sharp tuxedo that gives the theatrical rooms a still point to work against.
Ceremony
The ceremony leaned on contrast. Lengths of deep green silk pooled across pale floorboards while blush, peach and lavender florals sat on white plinths under the manor’s Gothic windows.
Set against the soft floral tones that green works the way Renaissance painters used a dominant color, holding a busy scene together instead of adding to the noise. The bridal line stayed structured and clean under a long veil, so the fashion held its own against a very loud room.
“From the beginning, my intention was never to copy the Renaissance. I wanted to create a modern interpretation that would feel relevant to contemporary couples while preserving the emotional and aesthetic qualities that continue to inspire us centuries later.”
Reception
Reception is where the still life reference stops being a mood board and becomes the table. Bramble Berlin built the food as composition, fruit spilling off stands, bread, cheese and charcuterie stacked the way they turn up in seventeenth century still life painting, seasonal vegetables left in view as part of the styling. The point was abundance you can actually eat, not set dressing.
The flowers are the quiet plot twist. Every arrangement, from the cascade down the head table to the urns on their plinths, is faux silk work by Allegria Decorations. Worth knowing for anyone planning: at this level silk reads as fresh in photographs, holds through a full day with zero wilting, and lives on long after the event, which is a real sustainability case dressed up as a pretty one.
Art of Lovely Moments handled the wider decoration, and the palette stayed disciplined across all of it, deep greens, warm terracotta and pale pastels, with candlelight and a few small crystal lamps doing the rest under the hall’s chandelier.
Then the theme loosened its collar. The black and white frames, a piano, a lot of laughing, are the human counterweight to all that art direction, and they are the reason the series reads as a real celebration.
The takeaway for anyone drawn to this look is refreshingly low on shopping. A Renaissance leaning wedding needs zero costume and zero props. It needs a room with real texture, a palette that behaves like a painter chose it, and a team willing to let the building lead when the weather refuses to cooperate.
