Perched atop an isolated mountain in Los Cabos, this styled shoot unfolds across desert, ocean, and sky. The architecture is spare. The florals are anything but — moody, maximalist, drawn from 17th-century Dutch Baroque painting. Conceived by Del Cabo Weddings and captured by MC Weddings, the shoot tracks how the space transforms from soft daylight into a boldly dramatic night.
Vision & Inspiration
The desert set the terms. Del Cabo Weddings drew every design cue from what surrounded them — mountains, native flora, an endless horizon. “What makes Los Cabos unique is its duality: raw and refined, vast yet intimate,” they explain, and that tension shaped the palette, from soft greens to deep wine and rose at sunset.
Movement mattered too. Grasses bending in the breeze. Shifting terrain. The team leaned into asymmetry over symmetry, letting Aria Vera Floral Design push the arrangements into bolder, more sculptural territory — vivid but still tethered to the arid landscape around them.
About the Venue
The space itself is new to Los Cabos — set atop an isolated mountain, just minutes from the destination’s most iconic resorts. What sets Dunara apart is restraint. The architecture stays minimal and lets the landscape lead, with wraparound exposure that pulls desert, ocean, and sky into the experience.
That openness pushed the team beyond a traditional layout. Curved tables break from the venue’s linear architecture. Natural stones sourced from the site ground the design, so every element reads as an extension of the terrain, not an addition to it.
Ceremony
“The ceremony drew on the venue’s existing amphitheater form. Rather than transforming it, we framed it, and allowed the architecture to guide the guest experience,” Del Cabo Weddings shares. Rows of green chairs curve around a raw, textural altar: dark velvet draping, moss, stone, and a mix of deep burgundy dahlias and near-black calla lilies. Rattan lanterns line the aisle, and by evening, candlelight takes over entirely.
The effect shifts with the hour. Soft and understated at sunset. Dramatic and cinematic once night falls.
Decor & Tablescape
Contrast drives the tablescape: raw stone against rich velvet, rustic texture against a refined hand. Yaya Rentals brought curved tables in desert-toned green linens, layered with patterned florals from Aria Vera Floral Design and place settings from Baja Stationery. Local stones sit right on the table alongside glassware and taper candles, keeping the setting tethered to the land it’s on.
At cocktail hour, Top Shelf engraved the signature drink menu straight into a modular bar, adding a playful edge to the moodier palette.
As the Light Shifts
This is a space that transforms by the hour. Soft and quiet in daylight, the desert turns rich and warm as the sun drops, pillars catching gold light against a pink sky. By night, it goes fully dramatic: string lighting overhead, candles glowing in rattan lanterns, blue projections animating the surrounding brush.
Del Cabo Weddings built the whole day around this shift. “Particularly rewarding was how the composition evolved by the hour,” they note. “Soft in the daylight, rich and warm at sunset, and boldly dramatic when lit by night, the space transformed continuously.”
Even the tabletop reflects it. Deep red taper candles hold their glow after dark, and the layered pendant lighting overhead turns each long table into its own warm pocket against the black desert sky.
Challenges & Highlights
Scale was the biggest test. A landscape this vast can swallow small details whole, so nothing was left to chance. “No element should get lost in the sweeping scale of the desert,” Del Cabo Weddings notes.
Balance mattered just as much. Every material, color, and proportion had to hold the line between raw and elevated, honoring the desert without tipping into something rough-hewn. As they put it, “we don’t design for a single moment, we shape an entire journey.”
