A Saturated Caribbean Editorial That Caught Its Own Rainbow

Photographer Emma Mullins built the concept around her love of the Caribbean, and her eye for wet, dense, weather driven frames carries the whole story. She shot it at Viceroy Sugar Beach in St. Lucia. A tropical storm rolled in halfway through, then cleared into mountain mist and a full rainbow stretched right over the Pitons. The green practically comes off the screen.

Champagne in the Pool

St. Lucia sits in the Lesser Antilles, a small island in the southern Caribbean known for the Pitons, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the most recognizable landmark on the island. The island’s tropical climate means everything grows dense and fast, and the green is intense year round. Models Alexandria Hill and Cameron Doody, real newlyweds, carry three looks across the resort, a rainforest garden, and the beach at night.

Alex started the morning loose and unhurried in a robe from Feerie Lingerie. The team moved her down to the pool for a stretch of frames in a white swimsuit from Anthropologie, a glass of champagne in hand and her feet in the water. The mood reads relaxed and confident rather than nervous, which sets the tone for everything that follows.

Hair artist Juliana Charles kept the morning hair as loose natural curls worn down. Makeup artist Hannah Wagstaff went warm and glossy, with bronzed skin, soft definition on the eyes, and a nude lip that holds up in humidity. Then Alex stepped into the first dress from Grace + Ivory, a clean strapless column built for the ceremony on the deck.

Vows in the Mist and Rainbow

Planner Michele Ince of Awesome Caribbean Weddings had choreographed this moment carefully, but the weather had different ideas. The ceremony took place on the Sunset Deck at Viceroy Sugar Beach, with the Piton Mountains and the Caribbean Sea filling the background. The design stayed minimal on purpose. White columns from The Crafty Islander stood at different heights and held the florals at eye level, while the chairs came from TLC Events.

Florist Dwayne Raggie went heavy on local tropical stems, with heliconia, anthurium, ginger, and saturated coral and pink roses. These arrangements read structural and almost sculptural rather than soft. Alex wore the Grace + Ivory ceremony gown, and Cameron stood in a black tuxedo from SuitShop.

A tropical storm rolled in right as this scene began, so the team waited it out and then shot straight through the mountain mist. As the ceremony wrapped, the clouds broke, the sun came back, and a full rainbow stretched over the Pitons. The whole sequence landed exactly the way you hope weather will behave and almost never does.

Deep Into the Green

For the second look the team left the resort and drove to Diamond Falls Botanical Gardens, once part of a historic sugar plantation and home to the mineral rich Diamond Waterfall. The afternoon rain had just passed, so the foliage was dripping and the greens had gone almost neon. This is the part of the shoot where you can practically smell the wet leaves and the soil.

Alex changed into a halter gown with an open back and a draped panel from Alyssa Kristin Bridal, and Juliana Charles pulled the hair up into a collected bun. The styling reads fashion forward while still holding up in the heat and humidity. Cameron switched into a white camp shirt and black trousers from SuitShop, which kept him easy against all that density.

The bouquet by Dwayne Raggie carried the same hot tropical palette deep into the canopy. Set against the dense rainforest, the white gown and the bright stems read like a deliberate contrast. Every frame here feels overgrown, and fully saturated.

Flash and Sparklers at Midnight

The reception leaned all the way into party mode. Cake cutting and champagne happened at the Terrace Restaurant, followed by a private dinner for two in a poolside cabana. The cake came from Sweetdreams Custom Cakes, a stack of white tiers finished with the same tropical florals running through the day.

Alex closed the night in a short beaded reception dress from Grace + Ivory, built around an oversized bow that does most of the talking. On her feet she had heels from She is Cheval that laced up the ankle, plus her own Manolo Blahnik for part of the night. Cameron switched into a white dinner jacket with black trousers from SuitShop.

Emma Mullins lit the night frames with hard direct flash, so the foreground pops bright against a black background and the whole reception reads loud and current. The energy lands closer to an afterparty than a formal sendoff, which is the entire point.
