A Moody Loft Wedding with New York Energy

Set against the industrial charm of Brooklyn’s Greenpoint Loft, Miller and Jackson’s fall wedding was a celebration of timeless elegance with a modern, moody twist. With a hundred guests gathered on September day, the couple transformed the space into a stunning blend of romantic sophistication and edgy New York vibes. Dark, dramatic florals, a black-and-white checkered dance floor, and custom touches like newspaper programs and a bespoke bar menu created an atmosphere that was both chic and deeply personal. From a live violinist playing “Girl on Fire” during the ceremony to a churro cart and late-night pizza at the reception, every detail reflected their thoughtful planning and unique style, making it a night to remember.

Location: Brooklyn, New York, USA
Style: Romantic, modern, moody
Time of planning: 1 year 5 months
Number of guests: 100
Setting: Loft
Season: Fall

Miller Margaret and Jackson share a love story spanning decades, beginning as childhood neighbors in Greenville, North Carolina. Though their paths rarely crossed as kids, fate brought them back together years later when Jack messaged Miller during a boys’ trip to New York, asking for restaurant recommendations. What started as casual messages quickly turned into heartfelt conversations, leading to their first date at Death & Taxes in Raleigh, North Carolina. Over shared plates and endless conversation, they reconnected and began a relationship that would lead to Jack proposing at a surprise dinner at their favorite West Village restaurant, Palma. With thoughtful planning and the help of Miller’s sisters, Jack orchestrated an unforgettable moment filled with flowers, family, and friends, marking the start of their next chapter together.

Bridal Morning

Miller’s wedding morning began with an air of excitement and quiet preparation as she got ready at a charming suite in Brooklyn. Joined by her closest friends and family, she soaked in the joy of the day ahead while Lemondy NYC worked their magic on her hair and makeup. Her beauty look was timeless and elegant, with soft, romantic waves paired with a fresh, glowing complexion and subtle accents that enhanced her natural beauty.

Her wedding dress, “Klein” by Rue de Seine, featured delicate straps, a hidden boned bodice for support, and a modern plunging neckline. Crafted from satin crepe, the dress hugged her figure with pleats and folds, culminating in a dramatic full train that floated effortlessly behind her. Miller paired the gown with a custom satin-edged veil and a meaningful “something old”—a clutch crafted by her mother using fabric from both her and her grandmother’s wedding dresses. Completing the look were Dolce Vita Kandi mesh bow kitten heels, Mejuri round topaz gold hoops, and a Diamond Bar Bracelet from Ring Concierge gifted by her parents as her “something new.” With Casablanca Lily by BYREDO as her chosen scent, Miller’s bridal look radiated sophistication and sentimental touches, perfectly complementing the heartfelt moments of her day.

Groom's Fashion

Jack wore a custom bespoke tuxedo from Scabal Savile Row, designed with his personal tailor, Tommy Raban. Under the collar, an embroidered “’Til Death” added a subtle, meaningful touch. He paired his tux with Christian Louboutin Dandelion velvet loafers and a Rolex Explorer I, a special addition to his watch collection for the wedding. Vintage Cuban peso cufflinks and Tom Ford Beauty Black Lacquer Eau de Parfum completed his ensemble, making his look both refined and deeply personal.

First Look

The couple shared a quiet moment reading their private vows, standing face to face in an intimate moment that was just for them. Jack was eager to reveal a hidden detail on his custom tux—“’Til Death” embroidered under the collar. Seeing Miller’s dress for the first time, he couldn’t help but say it reminded him of a Greek goddess, a fitting thought as they were set to honeymoon in Greece. The moment was raw, heartfelt, and filled with pure joy, a memory they would carry with them forever.

"I really loved our intimate vow reading and first look was probably one of my most fond memories and the most emotional!"

Ceremony

The ceremony took place in the rustic-industrial setting of Greenpoint Loft, where warm string lights and exposed wooden beams created an intimate, atmospheric space. A striking half-flower ground arch anchored the ceremony area, featuring moody, deep-hued florals in rich reds, plums, and dark greens arranged by Rosewood Productions. The seating followed a half-rounded design, allowing guests to feel closely connected to the couple as they exchanged vows. At the entrance, a black linen-draped welcome table set the tone, featuring a vintage train case for cards, glowing candle arrangements, and an Assouline NYC coffee table book as a guestbook. Custom newspaper programs, stacked neatly in a stand, added a unique, personal touch to the setup. Reserved seating for family and the wedding party was marked with black bows and name cards, reinforcing the refined yet moody aesthetic of the day.

"Florals were perfectly dark and moody with reds, plums and greenery, with candles lining the aisle at the end of each row."

As the ceremony began, Miller walked down the aisle with her father, Douglas, to a live violin cover of “Girl on Fire” by Alicia Keys, played by Elegant Music Group. The couple stood alone at the altar with their officiant, Father Bill Whalen, a retired Catholic priest Miller had discovered through a magazine article. The intimate setup and candle-lit ambiance heightened the emotional weight of the moment. They exchanged traditional vows in front of their closest friends and family, sealing their commitment with a kiss to the cheers of their guests. The ceremony ended with a spirited dip kiss, capturing the joy and energy of the day as guests applauded.

Private Moment

After the ceremony, Miller and Jack stole a few quiet moments together, stepping onto the Brooklyn streets as newlyweds. The city around them buzzed with life, but at that moment, it was just the two of them—hands intertwined, smiles exchanged, and the golden-hour light casting a soft glow.

Their photographer, Jenny for Weddings by Nato, captured their chemistry effortlessly, blending cinematic street shots with intimate rooftop portraits. A vintage yellow taxi framed one shot, adding a classic New York touch, while the wind caught Miller’s veil in another, creating a dreamlike movement. These moments, frozen in time, reflected not just their love but the electric energy of the city they call home.

Miller described the wedding as having “all the New York energy with a hint of romantic flair,” where “every detail of the day felt like it belonged in the city, effortlessly blending luxe vibes with personal touches.”

Decor & Setting

The reception space exuded modern sophistication with a moody, romantic edge. A striking black-and-white checkered dance floor took center stage, framed by glowing string lights and disco balls that reflected soft, golden light throughout the space.

The dining tables were dressed in ivory linens with knotted black napkins, black charger plates, and individual menus framed with bold black borders, keeping the aesthetic sleek and refined. Floral centerpieces by Rosewood Productions combined deep reds, burgundies, and soft neutrals, adding a rich, textural contrast. A custom-built black seating chart, embossed with the couple’s initials, stood elegantly near the entrance, surrounded by lush floral arrangements.

Personal details were woven throughout, from the vintage train case repurposed as a card box to the custom keychain favors displayed in a crystal bowl. The bar setup featured custom cocktail napkins, an oversized floral arrangement, and a display of the couple’s favorite wines and spirits, tying together the reception’s effortlessly cool, New York-inspired vibe.

"Our reception was a mix of modern sophistication and romantic charm, perfectly tying together my unique vision."

Reception

As the sun began to set, guests headed to the rooftop for cocktail hour, where the Manhattan skyline provided a breathtaking backdrop. A live saxophonist played an upbeat set, setting the perfect mood for the evening. Signature drinks, martinis, and chilled champagne were passed around with caviar bumps, while guests enjoyed a decadent grazing board by Amazing Graze NYC. With the golden-hour light casting a warm glow over the city, the atmosphere felt effortless and celebratory—exactly what Miller and Jack had envisioned.

Once the reception began, guests took their seats at elegantly set tables as dinner was served buffet-style by Lil’ Frankie’s, a nod to one of the couple’s favorite New York spots.

Miller and Jack made their grand entrance to “I Like Me Better” by Lauv, kicking off the night with a lively energy. Their first dance, choreographed by Maya Moves, took place on the black-and-white checkered dance floor under twinkling string lights. They danced to “Still the One”, a cover by their friend Kevin Garrett, whose songwriting credits include Beyoncé’s “Pray You Catch Me”. Guests cheered as the couple twirled, spun, and even nailed a lift, making their first dance one to remember.

Later in the evening, it was time for the cake-cutting. The couple’s wedding cake, a simple yet elegant lemon cake with raspberry filling from Ladybird Bakery, featured “Just Married” written in black script. Surrounded by candlelight, Miller and Jack laughed as they sliced into it, sharing this sweet moment.

As the party continued into the night, a late-night surprise awaited guests—fresh pizza from Joe’s Pizza, keeping the energy high on the dance floor. With disco balls casting reflections around the loft and the DJ from NT Wedding DJs spinning crowd-favorite hits, the celebration showed no signs of slowing down.

When it was finally time for the send-off, guests lined up with streamer wands, creating a tunnel of ribbons as Miller and Jack ran through, beaming. The night ended at Swift in NoHo, where the after-party continued with Guinnesses and good vibes—exactly how they wanted to wrap up their unforgettable wedding day.

"It was everything we dreamed of and more."
