There were no five-tier cakes, yachts, or fireworks here — none of the usual markers of grandeur. But what if true grandeur lives elsewhere? In the feelings, the connection, and the quiet understanding of what this day truly means. Held in the heart of Toronto, Kaleb and Margot’s celebration embraced a slower beauty, one that pulsed with emotion. With just 23 guests and an atmosphere that was part mystery, part warmth, every detail felt deliberate. Through the soft grain of film, the photographer, Lola Rong, captured this balance masterfully. Her work revealed its soul, one frame at a time.

Time of planning: 1 year
Number of guests: 23
Setting: Chapel, Restaurant
Season: Fall
Their story starts in the most Canadian of ways: at a Tim Hortons. Kaleb, a professor at York University, was mid-conversation with his students when he turned and met Margot’s eyes. She smiled. Blushed. Looked away. And then looked again. That brief moment was enough to plant something that would grow into a love story.
Unable to shake the image of her, Kaleb returned after class, hoping she’d still be there. She was. Almost as if waiting. What followed was the start of something extraordinary, and years later, they’d come full circle, posing outside that same coffee shop in full wedding attire: grinning, elegant, and home in their love.
Fashion
Margot wore a silk gown from Pronovias that perfectly embodied her aesthetic: sleek, sculptural, and deeply refined. The open back and subtle draping paired seamlessly with her pearl-detailed hairstyle and minimal accessories. Her makeup, by Miranda Xue, complemented the look with a soft, modern touch that highlighted Margot’s natural elegance.
Her bouquet, designed by Neroli Floral Studio, featured calla lilies and anthuriums, chosen not only for their elegance, but for their form, creating a floral composition that felt more like art than arrangement.
Kaleb matched her timeless energy in a tailored black suit and bow tie, adding personal flair with a Cartier Santos watch. His boutonniere mirrored the natural palette of Margot’s bouquet, giving just enough nod to cohesion without feeling overstyled.
First Look
Their first look took place beneath the Gothic arches of Knox College — a soft, quiet moment carved out of stone and light. The stillness of the moment contrasted with the anticipation in the air. When they finally saw each other, it was all calm and connection, a quiet reminder of why this day mattered so much.
Afterward, they wandered through the cloisters together, sharing a few quiet words, enjoying the pause, and letting Lola capture a series of portraits that feel tender, timeless, and full of intimacy.

Ceremony
The ceremony was held inside the Knox College Chapel at the University of Toronto, chosen for its dramatic stained glass, vaulted ceilings, and European sensibility.
The space was a dreamscape of candlelight and shadow, anchored by wild, sculptural florals from Neroli Floral Studio. Arranged in natural, almost foraged compositions, the florals spilled across the base of the altar like a living installation.
As Margot entered in her veil, the softness of her silhouette against the stained glass created a moment that felt eternal. Their vows were intimate, honest, and emotional — no performance, just presence.
Tango in the Chapel
In a twist that blurred the line between ceremony and celebration, Kaleb and Margot shared their first dance immediately after the vows in the very same chapel.
The music: “Por Una Cabeza” from Scent of a Woman. The dance: a fiery, elegant tango.
Margot had changed into a striking red dress that moved with intensity and grace, making every step of the choreography even more mesmerizing. It was theatrical, yes, but never showy. The moment felt like a love letter to old cinema and timeless romance, perfectly placed between ritual and revelry.
Private Moment
Just after the vows and the dramatic tango, Kaleb and Margot slipped into something more personal: a quiet, meandering walk through downtown Toronto. This wasn’t just a romantic stroll, it was a deliberate retracing of their first date, from campus to King Street and, finally, to the restaurant where it all began.
The photographer, Lola Rong, whose artistry with film brings out light in its softest, most nostalgic tones, followed at a quiet distance. The results are luminous. There’s no pretense in these images. They’re full of warmth, and a kind of everyday magic that only film can truly capture.
Reception & Decor
If the ceremony was all about grandeur, the reception turned inward, becoming a reflection of intimacy, taste, and memory. Set inside the restaurant where Kaleb and Margot had their first dinner together, the evening unfolded in low, golden light and minimalist florals by Neroli Floral Studio. Their tablescape was anything but typical: ceramic vessels cradled calla lilies, dried grasses, and wild textures.
Edible arrangements of figs, berries, and stone fruit spilled across the table like a living still life. The effect was organic, sculptural, and deeply refined. Much of this cohesion and elegance was made possible thanks to the thoughtful planning and design by Lara Zhang, who brought the couple’s vision to life with grace and precision.
The menu, printed on textured paper and placed atop smoky gray napkins, set the tone for a dinner that was as thoughtful as it was beautiful. The cake by DearDeer continued the design story: tall, raw-edged, and dressed with delicate edible petals and sculpted accents.
It was a reception that didn’t need loud statements or showstopping tricks. It was built on layered meaning, tactile beauty, and the kind of design that lingers quietly in memory long after the night ends.
Advice from the couple:
• Our advice for planning your wedding is to craft a day that truly reflects who you are as a couple. Choose vendors and a venue that resonate with your vision and style. If you love the venue as it is and have confidence in your vendors’ abilities, trust that they will deliver results that align with your expectations with minimal direction. This approach not onlysimplifies the planning process but also ensures that your special day feels authentic and personal, making it a memorable celebration of your unique love story.
