Elena and Nicolò built their wedding weekend around one idea: let their guests experience Ibiza exactly as they do. Not the nightlife the island is known for, but its older, slower side — small white churches, dirt roads, dinners that stretch past midnight. The couple spent a year planning two days that captured that feeling, and it shows. Wedding Movie Team‘s film moves at the pace of an actual vacation with people you love, while Matteo Rossi‘s photographs catch the same warmth in stillness — sun-bleached color, real laughter, nothing staged.
Location: Ibiza, Spain
Style: Intimate, Authentic, Party-focused
Time of planning: 1 year
Number of guests: 60
Setting: Hotel & Private Finca
Season: Summer
Elena and Nicolò met in 2018, introduced by mutual friends. On their first date, two strangers at the next table assumed they’d been a couple for years. A few weeks later, on a small dock in Cala Bonita, a stranger took what became their first photo together — without either of them noticing. From that point on, Ibiza was theirs. They kept coming back, year after year, no matter what else was happening in their lives.
The proposal happened in Portugal, another place that means a lot to them. On the terrace of their room at Areias do Seixo, with music playing and the stars out, Nicolò asked Elena to marry him. She remembers thinking it was the perfect setting before she even understood what was happening.
From there, the planning started immediately, and so did the disagreement. Elena, the more organized of the two, pictured a civil ceremony in Bologna, their hometown, followed by something small. Nicolò, the dreamer, was already picturing Ibiza. They landed on both: a civil wedding in Bologna with their families, and a religious ceremony in Ibiza with their closest friends.
What Was the Inspiration? Why Ibiza?
We named our wedding “La Isla en Mis Ojos” (“The island through my eyes”), and it perfectly represents the concept behind our wedding days: letting our guests experience Ibiza the way we see and feel it. Many of our guests had never been to Ibiza before, and even those who had mostly associated it with nightlife. That’s why we chose to host both events in the northern part of the island, a more unexpected and lesser-known side for most of them.
For the ceremony, choosing the Church of Santa Gertrudis felt completely natural from the beginning, as Santa Gertrudis de Fruitera is a place we are deeply connected to. The same felt true for The Farm, where the reception was held. Both locations represent that authentic and understated Ibiza that many people don’t expect.
We really wanted an intimate wedding. Our parents only joined us for the ceremony and the aperitivo, as they had already been part of the civil wedding in our hometown, and Ibiza was meant to be a celebration with our friends.
Choosing to celebrate with a small group turned out to be the best decision: most of our guests already knew each other, and even those who didn’t quickly bonded during the days spent together. The best part is that it ended up feeling more like a shared vacation than a formal event. The atmosphere was in fact incredibly special — everyone could truly feel the love, not only for us but among everyone who shared those days together.
We owe a huge thank you to our wedding planner, who immediately understood what we wanted to create and truly shared our vision. Cristina was absolutely essential. She and the entire Le Jour Du Oui team, Matteo Rossi—our photographer—and Nicola Lucini at Wedding Movie Team were all incredible. We connected with them from the very beginning, and by the end, it felt like they were truly part of our wedding, like they were our friends.
Welcome Day
For the welcome party, Elena and Nicolò chose Los Enamorados, drawn to its bohemian, seaside character. The event unfolded on the terrace, with earthy, natural tones running through the whole aesthetic — a mood reflected in the dress code they gave their guests: earth tones, sunset palette, warm neutrals, linen, raw textures.
The evening was meant to be low-key, a relaxed first gathering before the wedding day itself. It didn’t stay that way for long. Their friend Nicola Torresi took over as DJ, and by the end of the night, what had started as a chilled get-together had turned into one of the best parties of the weekend.
Elena felt a mix of excitement and nerves throughout the day. “Seeing all our friends there, in our favorite places, felt almost surreal,” she says.
Nicolò admits he underestimated how emotional the weekend would turn out to be. By Thursday, having dinner with friends who’d already arrived, he started to feel the weight of it — and the nerves carried into Friday morning. Having his friends and best men staying with him helped. “When I saw everyone arriving at Los Enamorados, I realized that all the effort we had put into organizing the wedding had been worth it,” he says.
Bridal Fashion & Morning
For the welcome party, Elena wore a dress by SIR with Gia Borghini sandals. For the wedding day, she chose Nova Cocotte by Vivienne Westwood, paired with Jimmy Choo‘s Saeda heels, a custom-made veil, and earrings by Gianluca Poli. She wore Le Labo’s Lys 41, kept her hair loose with soft, natural makeup, and carried a bouquet of colorful flowers.
“On the wedding day, the morning was slow and relaxed — we had brunch with some of our friends, then I got ready with my witnesses, Luca and Silvia, and Nicolò’s sister Sofia,” Elena says.
Underneath the calm, there was real nervousness. “Since we had already celebrated our civil wedding in Bologna a few months earlier, the anxiety around the wedding itself felt lighter. Some of our guests had already arrived days before, and many of our closest friends were staying with us — so it already felt like a shared experience,” she says. “Before leaving, I was actually very nervous — not so much about the wedding itself, but about the scale of it. Having all those people travel to Ibiza made me feel like everything had to be even more perfect than it already should be, and that it truly reflected us.”
Groom's Getting Ready
For the welcome party, Nicolò wore a suit by Tagliatore with a Laneus polo shirt, Sebago x La Ferramenta shoes, and a Cartier watch. For the wedding day, his suit and shirt came from Giulio Gigli Sartoria, paired with Church‘s shoes, his Cartier watch, and a tennis bracelet by Tramontano.
“On Friday morning, I woke up feeling really nervous, but having our friends and my best men staying with us helped a lot,” Nicolò says. “My best men gave me a gift that really touched me — a bracelet that I ended up wearing on the wedding day.”
What Was the Ceremony Like?
The Church of Santa Gertrudis de Fruitera, as mentioned before, was an obvious choice for us. Santa Gertrudis is our favorite place on the island, and we’ve spent countless evenings at Bar Costa, just in front of this little church. It’s small and completely unpretentious — one of those places that instantly feels like home, with its white and yellow facade. For all these reasons, we felt it truly reflected us. It was also perfect for the size of our wedding.
The music was played live by a violin and piano, adding a soft and intimate touch to the ceremony.
Everything happened so quickly that watching it again later on video felt quite emotional — it made us notice so many details we didn’t even remember. Seeing again the faces of our friends, so moved, made us realize just how much love they felt and feel for us.
We stepped out of the church to the notes of ‘You’ve Got the Love’ by Florence + The Machine, as our friends and family welcomed us by showering us with dried lavender.
One thing worth mentioning is that all of our guests were Italian, and many of them don’t even speak Spanish, yet the ceremony was held entirely in Spanish. Don Alvaro is an incredible person. He managed to engage everyone and made the ceremony even more special than we had imagined.
Cocktail Hour by the Pool
From the church, guests made their way to The Farm Ibiza’s pool for the aperitivo, where the welcome drink was a pomada — a traditional Balearic cocktail made with Xoriguer gin from Menorca. The Half Blood Production played live Spanish music as everyone settled in around the water. Every detail stayed rooted in the island, down to personalized mini bottles of hierbas for each guest.
“We also made the most of one of the most special features of the venue: a table built around a carob tree, which we chose to fill with local products,” the couple says.
Decor & Reception
Florals throughout the wedding — the bouquet, the boutonnières, the centerpieces around the reception — came from The Floral Studio, run by Francesca, who is also the owner of The Farm. Dinner was set at one long, shared table, dressed with terracotta-colored umbrellas to catch the evening light.
“Nicolò and I made our entrance to ‘Walking on a Dream’ by Empire of the Sun, and as we looked at our friends — singing, smiling, clapping — it truly felt like walking in a dream,” Elena says.
Dinner followed Spanish tradition, with starters served family-style — “para compartir” — and speeches from the couple’s witnesses woven between courses. The night moved toward the cake under the same carob tree that anchored the aperitivo: a Lambeth-style cake filled with Nutella, cut to “Love Is Noise” by The Verve, followed by a thank-you speech from Nicolò.
From there, the celebration shifted fully to the dance floor, with drinks and shots from Perfectly Balanced and midnight fries courtesy of La Grande Bouffe, who handled catering for the full weekend.
What Made the Day Unique?
We created a gift box for each guest, which they received during the welcome party. It was designed like a ‘doggy bag’ and included items inspired by Ibiza: a custom t-shirt featuring a map of our favorite places, stickers, a keychain, playing cards, a tote bag, a custom cap made by our friend Gui Friday, and a magazine about the island created by us.
The best part? The day after the wedding, many of our friends were already wearing everything.
As mentioned before, what really made those days unique was the love everyone truly felt. Everything was very genuine, nothing felt forced, and it was like being part of one big family. Pure vibes of Ibiza.
What Was the Most Memorable Moment?
The most iconic moment was the transfer from the church to the party venue in a Mehari, the most authentic Ibiza-style car.
The most memorable moment unfolded as the sun dipped behind the farm that hosted us, when all the guests gathered around a long imperial table set in the middle of nowhere. At the heart of it all stood a magnificent carob tree, adding height and presence to the entire design, from which a row of red parasols extended — true emblems of Ibiza. The dual soul of Ibiza: earth and sea.
Beautifully orchestrated by our wedding planner Cristina, it became a little corner of paradise where we listened to our friends’ speeches.
Advice from the couple:
• Choose a wedding planner you truly connect with, like Cristina was for us — someone who understands you and shares your vision.
• But above all, build your wedding around yourselves, what you love and what truly connects you. That’s what will make it unique, and what will allow your guests to truly feel it and appreciate it, because it reflects who you are.
