Actress Jordana Brewster and ValueAct Capital CEO Mason Morfit were introduced by mutual friend Max Boyer in 2020. “There were about fifteen people at a lunch in Park City, and we never said a word to each other,” Jordana recalls. “We then started following each other on Instagram. I thought he was very witty and charming, and we discovered that we had very similar upbringings. After we were both divorced, I flew to San Francisco during the pandemic to see him, and that was it.”
In 2021, the two got engaged on their favorite beach in Montecito. Soon after, they began planning the wedding for September 3rd at Villa Sevillano in Carpinteria, California. “We chose Montecito because we live there for part of the year,” Jordana explains. “We go every week to read, recharge, and relax.”
When it comes to planning, Jordana was very hands on. “I wanted to personalize the details in the invitation, and I became obsessed with small things like getting the flowers by Poppy Design Co. just right,” the bride says. “I am more right-brained and can have a super big vision without the ability to execute that vision so Mason suggested we have a weekly call with Beth Helmstetter and her event team at Beth Helmstetter Events. They helped keep everyone on track and also kept my anxiety in check.”
Jordana’s dress search turned into a dream scenario when her friend interior designer Chiara de Rege connected her with Wes Gordon at Carolina Herrera. “I initially thought I wanted a large, very traditional dress, but when I started to try them on, they didn’t feel right,” Jordana says. “I’m in my forties, and this is my second wedding, and a lot of them felt very young. My stylist Kate Bofshever helped me though, and the third dress I tried on was the right one–it was perfect.”
The actress has been working for the same hair and makeup team for her red carpet appearances for years, so it was only natural that she turned to Emily Cheng and Kylee Heath again on her wedding day. “They know me really well, and we have a ton of fun together,” she says. “I sent them a bunch of inspiration pictures. I kept googling ‘low bun, wedding’ until I found Hailey Bieber and thought to myself: ‘Bingo!’”
Mason, meanwhile, looked dapper in a navy blue Tom Ford tuxedo that the couple bought in London while Jordana was filming Fast X. In lieu of a traditional wedding party, the couple’s parents and children all walked down the aisle. “My sons Julian and Rowan escorted me down the aisle,” Jordana says. “They really wanted to hold my veil, but I kept saying ‘no no no, we are walking into this together, as a team.’ The symbolism of that meant a lot to me.”
Jordana and Mason asked Beth to create a circular layout so that they could be surrounded by their family and friends throughout the ceremony, and the couple’s therapist Kasey Crown officiated. “She knows us so well, and we knew she would bring the right amount of intention to the ceremony,” Jordana explains. “She also helped Mason and I navigate tricky issues such as joining our families in a thoughtful, sensitive way.” The “hero” moment of the ceremony may have been when the bride’s best friend Max Boyer Glynn pulled a bee out of her veil with her bare hands just as the ceremony began. “No one got stung,” Jordana admits. “A good omen!”
As the bride walked down the aisle with her sons, Mason’s friend and former band mate Jaime Goodyear sang Chris Stapleton’s “Starting Over.” “The lyrics describe our situation in a really beautiful, perfect way,” Jordana notes. “I felt calm and centered throughout the ceremony. I made sure to lock eyes with Mason the entire time I walked down the aisle. I’ve rushed through a lot of important milestones in my life, and at 42, I wanted to slow down and enjoy marrying the love of my life.”
After the ceremony, family portraits were taken—including driveway photos of Jordana and Mason with her character Mia Toretto’s Acura from The Fast and Furious. “It was fun to pay homage to that part of my life,” Jordana says. “A lot of work went into it! Sung Kang pulled some big favors and had the car built with two weeks notice before the wedding!”
Once photos had been taken, it was time for the first dance. The couple worked with the bride’s former burlesque dance teacher, Danah Jane Matthews, to prep for this moment. “The goal was for it to be intimate and not too performative,” she says. “There was something so romantic about the whole process–I loved it!”
Finally, for the after-party, Jordana wanted to have some fun with her look, so she changed into a Paco Rabanne mini that reminded her of carnival in Brazil. “I’m usually in bed by 9:00 p.m., but we danced until 1:00 a.m.,” the bride says of how the night ended. “It felt like a reunion of all of my most loved, favorite people gathered to witness the most important day of my life.”
“For our rehearsal dinner, we wanted a communal vibe. Our home in Montecito has a beautiful oak tree at its heart and so Beth Helmstetter, our wedding planner designed long tables surrounding the tree.”
“The wooden bar was set in front of our home. We offered a “Caipiroska” and a “Naked and Famous.” The former was a nod to my Brazilian heritage and the latter was an inside joke.
Emma from Poppy Design Co. surprised me with poppies in September. At our first meeting, I begged for poppies because I love how sculptural and colorful they are, and she broke my heart when she told me they are not in season. But she came through!”
“At night the scene became romantic as the lights in the tree came on and twinkled like stars. Our guests wrote down and hung well wishes in the tree.”
“Details are super important to us. That is why we chose to collaborate with my wedding designer Beth Helmstetter. When we first met at my home, Beth noticed an Idarica Gazzoni fabric on my bathroom walls. She noticed I love pattern and color. When she showed me this St. Frank print, I was over the moon.”
“Mason and I wanted a bespoke map of Montecito with all of our favorite spots including Tre Lune and Caffe Luxxe. The cheeky skinny dippers on the R.S.V.P. card reflect our sense of humor.”
“Chiara de Rege, my childhood friend, introduced me to Wes Gordon. I flew to New York with my stylist Katie Bofshever, and we chose the third dress I tried on. I fell in love with how classic and sexy it is. I waited until the “walk down the aisle” moment to show Mason. I tried to throw him off the scent by pretending I chose a dress with sleeves, or a super puffy dress.
The detail of the buttons down my back was so stunning. I also love my Carolina Herrera veil. It added a romantic element that balanced out the sexy silhouette of the dress.”
“In the garden, we chose to be at the center of the ceremony so Beth laid out the chairs in concentric circles. The flowers looked as if they were part of the landscape: lush and beautiful.”
“Mason got ready with his sons. He checks himself out in the mirror. It’s very sweet, he is wearing the watch I gave him when we first started dating.
I dressed my sons, Julian and Rowan, in Bonpoint tuxedos with Chuck Taylor shoes. Maria Terroba, my friend, gave me the shoe suggestion, and it worked out perfectly.”
“By the time guests were seated, the temperature had gone down. We love how the circular design pulls everyone together.
My sons Julian and Rowan walked me down the aisle. They really wanted to hold my veil, but I kept saying “no no no, we are walking into this together, as a team.” The symbolism of that meant a lot to me.”
“We chose a seating layout of concentric circles to be in the middle of all the guests. Even with 225 people, we felt close to everyone.”
“Instead of an altar, Kasey suggested a small table with sacred objects, one for each child—a toy, a football, a tennis ball, a Taylor Swift record, a guitar pic, a Harry Potter book, and some of our children’s art work. The kids are going through this transition with us, and we wanted to honor them.
Our ceremony began with vows that each of us had written for our own children, then vows to our respective stepchildren. It ended with vows to each other. And a kiss.”
“Before the wedding, I was a little wary of the boys crushing my dress, but after the ceremony, I wanted giant bear hugs. All bets were off.”
“Mason and I talked about the driveaway car late in the planning stages. Mason was the one to suggest a car from TheFast and the Furious. I loved giving a nod to my history.”
“My good friend, and costar, Sung Kang sourced three amazing cars for us! He is a car nut.
The one we drove off in—Mia Toretto’s blue Acura from the first film—was specially built for the ceremony with two weeks’ notice!”
“I had always wanted a traditional sailcloth tent. We worked with Zephyr Tents and Beth Helmstetter, Bella Vista, and Poppy Design Co. made it even more beautiful than I anticipated.
Greenery and the most perfect white blooms were strung throughout by Poppy Design Co. Mismatched custom linens from St. Frank Textiles and Nuage Linens were paired with modern white chairs for just the right amount of balance between modern and playfulness, and brass pendants hung over the dance floor making for the most magical moment.”
“It’s been said many times, but for good reason: The Fast and the Furious cast is family. We have been together for 22 years. Vin really is my big brother. I go to him for advice all the time!”
“Plenty of guests threatened to jump in the pool because it was so hot! Luckily, no one did. As the night progressed, it cooled down.”
“I loved our tent. It was one of the first references I sent Beth. It was romantic and open. Mason joked that it looked like the Harry Potter tent from the Quidditch tournament.”
“For the table settings, guests either had a lucky penny or a four leaf clover. This was a call back to the Chris Stapleton song “Starting Over” that played as we walked down the aisle.”
“Poppy Design Co. did an outstanding job. The flowers look so stunning with the tent. To the left in pink, you can see my divorce lawyer Stacey Feinberg. She’s also a friend from childhood. I owe a lot to her. My awesome business manager Andrew Meyer is in white. Frankie Flowers is in the blue suit on the right.
Like Natalie, my friend and co-star Chris Bridges flew in last minute after a night shoot in order to be at the wedding. His stunning wife Eudoxie Bridges came with him. It made us feel so loved to have everyone show up and celebrate our love.”
“I really wanted to make my burlesque dance teacher Danah Jane Mathews proud. I worked the crowd and milked the big moments, as she instructed.”
“The tent lit up at night was even more romantic.”
“The after-party had a nightclub theme. Silver curtains and disco balls.
Once they get in their groove, The Fast and The Furious cast goes all night. I’m usually the early bird of the group, but on this night, I committed to being present for every moment.”
“Our wedding cake looked beautiful but also tasted amazing which was so important to us.
Dessert is my favorite part of dinner. And our kids had so much fun tasting cakes from Flouring LA. The boys wanted cookies and cream, but they were vetoed, and we went with passion fruit.”
“DJ Michelle Pesce spun a ’90s/’00s hip-hop set at the after-party. This was an homage to my wilder years in NYC and L.A. It also struck a chord with the guests.”
“I wore a Paco Rabanne two-piece that reminded me of Carnival in Brazil. Another nod to where I come from.”
