The wedding of Caroline and Rene was planned by Penzi Weddings, a team known for turning cities into stages for unforgettable stories. This time, San Miguel de Allende became their canvas: a baroque church, the courtyard of Instituto Allende, a ceiling of hundreds of orange-and-green ribbons, and tables dressed with cobalt talavera. Captured by Christian Garcia, the day unfolded as a “modern fiesta,” where the couple merged into one celebration with mojigangas leading the welcome, September igniting the dance floor, and guests glowing with joy.
Location: San Miguel de Allende, Mexico
Style: Colorful, Modern Fiesta, Cultural
Time of planning: 13 months
Number of guests: 80
Setting: Church & Courtyard
Season: Fall
Rene is a financial analyst, while Caroline works as a project manager in graphic design. They first met in 2019 through Caroline’s best friend, but romance began only a year later when they crossed paths again at a small gathering. “We both knew, it was a connection so different from previous relationships,” Caroline recalls. Together, they enjoy traveling, going to concerts, gardening, and spending time with their dog, Machu.
Vision of the Celebration
Caroline, being a designer, approached the celebration as a creative project. Together with Penzi Weddings and Florklor Studio, she translated her mood boards into an immersive environment. The idea was an “oasis of color and good vibes” where nothing felt generic, and every shade and texture resonated with their personalities. The courtyard of Instituto became the perfect stage: fruit as florals, patterned ceramics, and a ceiling that seemed to move with the wind.
Beyond visuals and traditions, authenticity was key. Caroline explains: “We wanted everything to be beautiful and an extension of our personalities.” The result was a day where the solemnity of the church contrasted with the fiesta of the courtyard, yet everything felt cohesive, warm, and personal.
San Miguel de Allende itself was integral to their vision. The terracotta walls, the baroque church, the parade, all of it made the wedding inseparable from the city’s spirit. Local crafts, from talavera ceramics to vibrant paper art, shaped the atmosphere just as much as florals and textiles did. The couple didn’t just host their wedding, they let the city’s traditions frame their story.
Pre-Wedding Parade
The pre-wedding began with a callejoneada, San Miguel’s signature wedding tradition. The couple led their guests through cobblestone streets alongside mojigangas and a festively adorned donkey, a scene filled with music, laughter, and spontaneous dancing.
Guests were welcomed with a thoughtful gesture, custom gift totes tied with ribbons before the main event of the day. That evening, the celebration moved to Duke Rooftop.
The rooftop glowed with warm lights, and the energy shifted into a vibrant nightlife atmosphere. Friends toasted, music pulsed, and the couple danced into the night already setting the tone for the fiesta spirit of their wedding day.
Bride's Morning & Fashion
For the ceremony, Caroline chose Danielle Frankel Studio, a house known for its sculptural approach to bridalwear. The gown’s structured corset melted into a voluminous skirt with a sweeping train, creating a silhouette that felt architectural yet fluid.
She paired the gown with classic Jimmy Choo pumps, and a striking detail, a red Reformation bag, introduced a playful contrast, turning tradition into something unmistakably her own. The accessories held layers of meaning: drop-down pearl earrings by Jennifer Behr framed her face, while her grandmother’s pearl necklace, set with a diamond pendant, carried memory and continuity into the day.
Her hair, styled in soft waves, framed oversized sunglasses, a bold statement against the backdrop of colonial arches. The look moved easily from classic portraits on the tiled staircase to candid moments with her father, highlighting the gown’s dual quality: dramatic enough for a ceremony, yet relaxed enough to feel lived-in.
Groom's Fashion
Rene wore a custom tuxedo from Indochino tailored with a clean, modern line that emphasized sharp shoulders and a narrow waist. The crisp white shirt and satin lapels framed a Tom Ford bow tie, adding a touch of iconic luxury to the classic silhouette. For footwear, he chose sleek loafers by Calvin Klein, keeping the look polished yet understated.
Ceremony
The lovebirds exchanged vows at Templo de San Francisco, one of San Miguel’s most iconic baroque churches. The grandeur of the golden altar, framed with cascades of red and orange florals, contrasted with the intimacy of the vows. Florklor Studio transformed the historic interior with a palette that echoed the vibrancy of the city itself, weaving the couple’s love for bold design into the solemn space.
Music was at the heart of the ceremony. Rene entered with his mother to Cinema Paradiso by Ennio Morricone, a cinematic opening that set the emotional tone. Caroline walked down the aisle with her father to her favorite Tchaikovsky piece, Pas de Deux.
“It was beautiful, and definitely a moment in time that will be replayed in my head forever,” she remembers. After the vows, the newlyweds exited to an instrumental of Space Song by Beach House, a detail that felt both modern and deeply personal.
The photographs capture the layered atmosphere: the golden glow of the altar, the veil framing Caroline’s face, the exchange of smiles and quiet glances, and finally the kiss that drew applause from their guests. The baroque church gave them timeless solemnity, while the floral installations made the ceremony unmistakably theirs.
Cocktail Hour
After the ceremony, guests were welcomed into the courtyard, now bathed in afternoon light. Under cream parasols and blue sky, the atmosphere shifted from solemn to celebratory.
Signature spritz cocktails, designed in vivid orange tones, reflected the couple’s palette and became instant favorites. The tables, dressed with terracotta vases and bold patterned linens, carried the fiesta energy into the cocktail hour without overshadowing the relaxed vibe.
Ezquerro DJ curated a set of smooth, groovy beats that encouraged conversation and laughter. Guests toasted, and embraced the space that blended the city’s Mexican charm with modern design details.

Moments Together
Between the celebrations, Caroline and Rene found time to step aside and create memories that belonged only to them. A vintage car became both a backdrop and a sanctuary, its white curves reflecting the city’s elegance. Inside, a quiet kiss framed by Caroline’s red bouquet turned into one of the most intimate images by Christian Garcia.
In the garden, they leaned into each other against terracotta walls, the contrast of her flowing gown and his black tuxedo echoing the balance of their wedding style: sculptural yet effortless.
Later, portraits by muralled walls offered a cinematic note: Caroline in stylish sunglasses, the couple sitting side by side, looking as though they had stepped straight out of an editorial.
Reception & Decor
For the reception, Penzi Weddings orchestrated a transformation of the courtyard into a layered, immersive scene. The design played not only with color, but with texture and rhythm: colorful canopy overhead in orange, green and pink shifted with the evening breeze, creating a installation that felt alive.
Florklor Studio styled tables with bold arrangements of anthuriums, dahlias, and celosia in saturated tones, paired with terracotta vases and glossy greenery. Each centerpiece was slightly different, giving the space a sense of movement and avoiding repetition. The effect was fiesta-like, yet carefully structured.
Stationery echoed the vibrancy with patterned menus and personalized details, while cobalt talavera plates grounded the tablescape in regional craft. The balance of crisp white linens, modern wire chairs, and saturated florals gave the courtyard a contemporary edge, while still honoring San Miguel’s artisanal roots.
Even the cake became part of the aesthetic: a white tiered design adorned with fresh flowers, continuing the garden-like atmosphere into dessert.
Once dinner concluded, the atmosphere shifted into full celebration. Caroline changed into her second look: a sparkly three-piece gown designed with KARAH MX. Its beaded pattern caught every ray of light on the dance floor, transforming her into the center of the night’s rhythm. Paired with Valentino platforms, the ensemble had the spirit of couture but the energy of a party, made for movement, laughter, and spontaneous moments.
Friends and family filled the dance floor, and DJ kept the tempo high with an eclectic set that blended throwback hits and modern grooves. Laughter, toasts, and dancing turned the courtyard into a scene of pure fiesta, each guest adding to the color and joy.
Later in the evening, Caroline and Rene cut their beautiful cake before leading everyone outside for a final surprise. Fireworks lit up the San Miguel sky, a spectacular crescendo to the day’s narrative.
