From the cobbled streets of Florence to the frescoed walls of a historic library, Katarina and Gabriel’s wedding was a heartfelt celebration of love, art, and connection. Inspired by their shared backgrounds in architecture and design — and the city where their story began — every moment of the day felt deeply personal, effortlessly elegant, and filled with joy.
Location: Florence, Tuscany, Italy
Style: Romantic, artistic, classical
Time of planning: 1,5 years
Number of guests: 60
Setting: Ceremony – chapel, reception – restaurant courtyard
Season: Summer
Katarina and Gabriel met while studying architecture in college, but it was during a year abroad in Florence that their friendship turned into love. Since their first date they’ve been inseparable — building a life filled with creativity, travel, and shared dreams. Gabriel proposed at Arizona’s breathtaking Horseshoe Bend, and there was no doubt where they’d begin their next chapter. Returning to Florence, the city that shaped their story, to celebrate their wedding with family and friends was more than a dream — it was a homecoming, and one of the best days of their lives.
Bride's Look
Katarina envisioned an effortless, romantic look to match the intimate charm of the ceremony’s library setting — and she brought that vision to life with grace. She wore a custom Flora gown, its delicate lace, floral appliqués, and flowing silhouette perfectly echoing the timeless elegance of the space.
Her Badgley Mischka block heels added a touch of sparkle, while soft, natural makeup and a tousled chignon by Suely Menichetti kept the look refined yet relaxed. She wore Diptyque’s Eau Rose perfume and carried a striking white orchid bouquet by Giorgina Carolini — every detail a quiet ode to her graceful, poetic style.
Groom's Fashion
Gabriel embraced a “less is more” philosophy for his wedding day look, opting for a sharp and timeless ensemble that felt effortlessly polished. He wore a classic black tux paired with a crisp white Hugo Boss dress shirt and black suede Chelsea boots. His look was completed with a sleek white orchid boutonnière and black Ray-Ban sunglasses, adding just the right amount of edge.
Ceremony
The couple was torn between San Diego and Florence — until they discovered a wedding shoot in the Artist’s Palace library and instantly fell in love. They reached out to the planner behind it, Wedding in Wonderland, and began envisioning their dream wedding in the city that meant so much to them. Set in a historic chapel-turned-boutique hotel, the library’s frescoed ceilings, antique altar, and sun-filled windows created an intimate, magical setting that guests called one of the most beautiful they’d ever seen.
With backgrounds in architecture and film design, Katarina and Gabriel were inspired by the blend of old and new in ‘Romeo & Juliet and 2001: A Space Odyssey’ — a vision their planner brought to life with her incredible eye for space and detail.
A striking fuchsia chandelier floated above a sea of mismatched velvet and brocade chairs, adding a touch of modern whimsy. At the altar, cascading white orchids and clouds of baby’s breath softened the grandeur with their ethereal beauty. The natural light streaming through the tall windows made every detail glow, creating a setting that felt timeless, artistic, and personal.
The ceremony unfolded like a scene from a film — intimate, poetic, and emotional. As sunlight poured into the fresco-lined library, Katarina entered on the arm of her father, her eyes lowered with quiet joy. The moment felt suspended in time, surrounded by loved ones, who held their breath in awe.
The ceremony was led by celebrant Jo Bertolino, who thoughtfully shared Katarina and Gabriel’s love story with warmth and grace. As a meaningful tribute to their shared passion for design and their deep bond with Florence, the couple exchanged vows they had handwritten in embossed leather journals from the historic Scuola del Cuoio. It was a beautiful, personal touch that tied their words — and their hearts — back to the city that had shaped their journey.
Cocktail Hour
The cocktail hour unfolded right where the ceremony had just taken place. A space this beautiful needed no transformation; its timeless elegance made it the perfect setting for every moment of the day.
Guests mingled beneath the frescoed ceilings, raising glasses of prosecco and offering warm congratulations to the newlyweds. Laughter filled the air as loved ones toasted, embraced, and soaked in the golden afternoon light. It was a joyful continuation of an already unforgettable celebration.
In The City
Katarina and Gabriel, joined by their wedding party, stepped out into the lively streets of Florence for an unforgettable walk through the city. With cheers from strangers and the buzz of weekend life all around, they made their way past the Duomo and through Piazza della Repubblica, wrapped in joy and celebration.
The journey felt spontaneous and cinematic — filled with laughter, embraces, and the occasional happy chaos of navigating crowds in full wedding attire. Francesco Fornaini and his talented team captured it all brilliantly, delivering a vibrant, emotion-filled collection of images that preserved the magic of those in-between moments.
Reception
The reception took place in the charming courtyard of Obicà Mozzarella Bar, a setting that perfectly embraced the warm summer evening. Surrounded by graceful columns and soft architectural lines, the space offered an elegant yet relaxed atmosphere for dining under the open sky.
Wedding in Wonderland transformed the space with dreamy decor. Tables were draped in soft slate-gray linens and lined with crystal-clear ghost chairs, creating a dreamy, ethereal look. Floral arrangements of blush roses, white orchids, and delicate dried botanicals ran down the center of each table, paired with flickering candlelight. Each place setting featured textured ceramic plates and rose-tied napkins, thoughtfully styled down to the smallest detail. As evening fell, the glow of candles danced alongside reflections from a silver disco ball, hinting at the night of celebration still to come.
Katarina and Gabriel were met with cheers and applause from their closest family and friends. The newlyweds shared a joyful toast, clinking glasses with wide smiles. Between courses, heartfelt speeches filled the air with laughter, happy tears, and stories that reminded everyone just how special this union was.
As twilight settled over the courtyard, the couple shared their first dance to ‘Kiss From A Rose’ by Seal — a song full of drama and heart, just like their story. Under the soft reflections of a disco ball and the warm glow of candlelight, they swayed together, completely in sync, smiles lighting up their faces. It was a moment of pure connection that set the tone for the rest of the night.
Instead of a traditional tiered cake, Katarina and Gabriel opted for something that felt fresh, fun, and perfectly them — heart-shaped fruit tarts topped with vibrant strawberries, raspberries, and blueberries. The rich red hues popped against the soft candlelight and crisp white linens, adding a touch of sweetness and color to the night. It was a playful, delicious twist that invited guests to gather, savor, and celebrate in true Italian style.
Afterwards the celebration quickly turned into a joyful, high-energy dance party that lasted for hours — filled with laughter, spins, and unforgettable moves. It was the perfect finale to a day that so effortlessly blended beauty, meaning, and the purest kind of joy.
