An Intimate Fall Wedding at Austria’s Most Cinematic Palace

Featured Members

Ting and Yuan share a deep love for music, and The Sound of Music holds a special, generational significance for both of their families. It is the kind of film their parents grew up with, the one that shaped how they understood romance and beauty. So when it came to choosing where to get married, there was really only one answer: Schloss Leopoldskron in Salzburg, the palace where the film was originally shot.

They wanted to celebrate an intimate destination wedding shared only with their parents, just six people, at the place that meant the most to the people who raised them. Sincere Emotions filmed the day and called it The Sound of Music

Location: Salzburg, Austria
Style: Elegant, Intimate, Romantic
Time of planning: 1 year
Number of guests: 6
Setting: Historic Palace
Season: Fall

Bride's Morning & Fashion

For the first look, Ting chose a white satin mermaid gown with sculptural three-dimensional floral details, paired with a bespoke veil she had designed herself, embroidered with a personal logo representing memories unique to the couple.

Instead of a traditional bouquet, she carried an installation-inspired floral piece that read more like wearable art than a bunch of flowers. Her hair was styled in a clean updo with a touch of natural fringe, and makeup was kept soft and refined by Wang Qiqi, who handled all three bridal looks across the day.

For the ceremony, Ting shifted entirely: a Baroque-inspired gown with a dramatic cathedral-length train, a long veil. For dinner, she changed into a silver sequined gown with matching accessories and jewelry, calibrated for candlelight and built for movement: the first dance dress.

Groom’s Fashion

Yuan kept it sharp and classic: dark formal suit, clean tailoring, zero fuss. Before the ceremony, the couple planned something rarely seen at weddings: five separate First Looks. The first was between Ting and Yuan themselves. Then came two First Looks for the parents, not the couple with their parents, but the parents with each other. To honor the fact that neither set had celebrated a grand wedding in their own youth, Ting and Yuan gave them that moment now.

Ceremony

The ceremony took place by the lakeside, with snow-capped mountains as the backdrop. Fine Events Vienna built a garden within a garden, an intimate ceremonial stage surrounded by nature. Both sets of parents made a formal entrance with the same significance as the couple, and both fathers served as witnesses, delivering speeches with their hopes and blessings for the newlyweds.

A local Salzburg string quartet performed classical selections from The Sound of Music live. Hearing those melodies beside that lake, in that garden, with the mountains right there: it is the kind of thing that makes the hairs on your arms stand up.

The ceremony was led by two officiants: Oliver Kossegg, the English-speaking officiant and wedding planner, and Xuelin Kossegg, translator and lead designer. The couple had grown so close to both that inviting them to officiate felt like the only right call.

Reception

Dinner took place in the palace’s largest Baroque hall. The spaces were filled with florals by Hana Holdener, vintage candlesticks of varying heights, and autumn fruits that brought warmth and seasonal texture to the interior. A vocalist and a harpist performed live throughout the entire evening, turning a six-person dinner into something closer to a private theatrical production. The couple chose a French croquembouche by M.Passione over a traditional cake, its sculptural form and warm tones a perfect match for the hall’s grandeur.

The highlight of the evening was the couple’s dance. Ting and Yuan had spent a long time learning and rehearsing a choreographed routine, and it showed. Qimi Studio captured it in real time through live painting, adding one more layer to a night that already felt like its own private production.

Advice from the couple:

Focus on what truly matters to you. Keep your wedding deeply personal, surround yourselves with the people who matter most, and allow the day to unfold naturally.

• Choosing a thoughtful, professional team you truly trust makes all the difference — so you can stay present, emotionally connected, and fully enjoy every moment while they quietly bring your vision to life.
