A Vintage-Inspired Elopement on the Oregon Coast

Sophie and Emma took turns proposing to each other, believing that “everyone should get to be both the proposer and the proposee.” As they shared, “Being proposed to is a really sweet, special experience. And proposing is terrifying, even when you’re pretty sure they’re going to say yes.”

Location: Oregon, USA
Style: Classic, intimate, windswept, chic, vintage
Time of planning: About 3 months
Number of guests: Only the couple
Setting: Coast

Never ones for big weddings, the couple wanted their day to feel simple, intentional, and true to them. “We’ve seen friends stress about planning weddings — you can end up focused on making everyone else happy. We wanted to focus on the commitment we’re making to each other, in a beautiful place we love.” Photographer Angelina Lusetti beautifully captured the intimacy and emotion of their elopement on both digital and film in its most timeless form.

Couple's Morning & Fashion

Sophie and Emma each felt most themselves in sharp tailoring. Most of what they wore was pre-owned, as sustainability has always been important to them. Sophie wore a vintage Armani tux with a 1960s deadstock veil and Galician earrings, while Emma chose a Kirrin Finch tux styled with suede Aquatalia loafers. Together, their looks reflected timeless style, thoughtfulness, and intention, a perfect match for the day they promised forever.

"My jaw dropped when I saw them both in their ensembles! So classic, chic, and stylish. They were the perfect looks for the day and the setting.”

Ceremony

Each of them wanted to look and feel their best, surrounded by beauty, and have peace to focus on the commitment they were making to each other. They chose the Oregon coast, a place they’d cherished early in their relationship, where cliffs of old-growth forest meet the ocean. The weather was unpredictable, though the forecast promised sun; the morning brought rain, overcast skies, and strong winds. By the ceremony, the sun broke through, and the sunset created a magical backdrop, with windswept veil moments full of movement and drama.

Sophie said, “The wind was our slightly unruly wedding guest. The sun showed up late to the ceremony, but the ocean and the trees more than made up for it. And I didn’t mind the wind! It made managing the veil a bit more difficult—at one point, it fully blew away—but certainly added some drama and laughter to the ceremony.”

Emma added, “I felt calm and excited before the ceremony. I’d practiced out loud a bunch beforehand. The ceremony felt serious and important, but it was also funny—a strong wind kept blowing Sophie’s veil around and at one point blew away the notecards on which I wrote my vows.”

"Exchanging our vows in private felt right to us.”

Moment Together

The whole day felt like a honeymoon. Dancing on the beach after the ceremony became one of the couple’s most memorable moments, and one of their biggest decisions was choosing the photographer, since they planned to exchange vows without an officiant or witnesses, and the photographer would be the only person there to capture these intimate moments.

"We found the perfect photographer in Angelina, who is both absurdly talented and an absolute gem of a person.”

Celebrating Love

After dancing on the beach and capturing photos, the couple returned to their cabin, where they enjoyed a champagne toast and shared some delicious cake to close out the night.

The couple knew a wedding cake had to taste as good as it looked, so they turned to Deep Sea Sugar & Salt in Seattle. Although pre-orders were sold out a month in advance, they got lucky that a small key lime graham cracker cake was available that day. Every cake from the bakery is stunning, and they added a touch of gold leaf for extra sparkle.

Advice from the couple:

Really think about what is most important to you. How do you want to feel? What do you want to see and hear? How do you want to remember it?
