In the lucky world of love, chance encounters can lead to the most extraordinary tales. For Katrina, a Senior Software Engineer at MediaCorp, and Naresh, a Director at Mastercard, their story began on a Valentine’s Day adventure atop Mount Kinabalu, a day etched in their hearts forever.
Destiny played its part during a hike on this majestic Malaysian mountain. While attempting to befriend a mischievous squirrel, Naresh was on the receiving end of a playful bite. Little did he know that this unexpected incident would introduce him to Kat, who couldn’t help giggling at this funny situation.
Their connection blossomed as they ascended the mountain together, fueled by a shared passion for adventure. Fate further intertwined their lives as they explored the summit and exchanged Instagram handles.
Back in the bustling city of Kota Kinabalu, with a shared evening and flights scheduled for the next morning, Naresh took the bold step of inviting Kat to dinner. Little did she know that his enthusiastic consumption of seafood was a charming ruse. That night, amidst laughter and endless conversation, they exchanged numbers, laying the foundation for a love that transcended borders.
Katrina shares about one of the most thrilling moments: “After 2.5 years of courtship, Naresh decided to take it back to where we first met – a mountain! Along with his best couple of friends in Singapore, we all traveled to Mount Bromo, Indonesia’s most famous active volcano. Unbeknownst to me, he wanted to surprise me at the rim of the crater, and little did he know that the tour guide was more excited than he was. The tour guide kept throwing hints occasionally, but it remained a mystery until we hiked up to the crater. Thankfully, there were far fewer people that day, and the weather was gorgeous. He asked, and I said yes! I was in shock, and my ring was to die for! I could’ve never imagined a better engagement ring, let alone a proposal! I loved every second of it and will forever cherish that day!”
The wedding planning process reflected Naresh and Katrin’s desire for simplicity and intimacy. Combining their Filipino and Indian cultures, they opted for a pastel-themed celebration. The couple navigated through venue options and vendors, ultimately choosing The Alkaff Mansion for its colonial charm and ideal setting. “The Alkaff Mansion was our first choice as it wasn’t too flashy, it had an excellent colonial feel that would be perfect for pastel colors, the gazebo outside was fantastic for solemnizations, and we both loved it instantly.” shared the couple.
The wedding day started with a sunny and beautiful morning, filled with happiness. Katrina and Naresh were getting ready together for the wedding ceremony. Katrina’s wedding attire consisted of an adorable lace ensemble with a top and a skirt, and the highlight of the look was a splendid satin bow. The vibrant yellow silk shoes from Manolo Blahnik added a pop of color to the ensemble. Katrina’s hairstyle was adorned with yellow wildflowers, harmonizing with the overall wedding concept and adding delightful touches to the charming bride’s appearance.
Naresh opted for a traditional wedding attire. He looked very stylish in his suit, striking a perfect balance between sophistication and elegance.
Naresh and Katrina arrived at the ceremony in a retro car, adding a touch of individuality to this beautiful morning. The ceremony took place in the garden of The Alkaff Mansion, framed by a picturesque gate with a beautiful fountain. As the altar, there was a charming and romantic gazebo adorned with floral compositions in bright yellow and white, surrounded by lush greenery.
During the ceremony, Katrina walked down the aisle with her parents, who escorted her toward the altar where her beloved awaited. It was a touching moment, as the bride recalls seeing tears in his eyes, making it the most memorable moment for Katrina. When the bride and groom exchanged vows of love, all the guests were deeply moved, and no one remained indifferent in that heartfelt moment

After the ceremony, guests had the opportunity to take memorable photos with the couple as a keepsake of this beautiful day.
Kat’s creativity shone through as she curated a mood board, deciding on colors, florals, and accessories. The team at The Alkaff Mansion and 1-Host seamlessly executed their vision, accommodating adventurous requests and ensuring every detail was perfect.
The wedding day itself was a dream. From the decor to the flowers, food, and joyful atmosphere, every element exceeded the expectations of Katrina and Naresh. The twinkle of fairy lights, wildflowers adorning the tables—everything created a special magic, a real-life fairy tale that the couple had dreamed of and that became a reality.
When the newlyweds entered the reception, guests joyfully welcomed them. Naresh and Katrina had the opportunity to give a speech expressing gratitude to all their family and friends who came to celebrate with them, standing by their side. It was truly a heartfelt moment.
The cake-cutting ceremony was memorable indeed. The cake was unique, featuring tiers adorned with donuts, and the actual cake on top. It was a creative and unusual presentation. So, instead of simply cutting the cake in the typical fashion, the couple shared the donuts with each other. It was such a quirky and fun moment!
During the reception, there were numerous heartfelt congratulations for the bride and groom, evoking a range of emotions from touching tears to joyful laughter. The entire reception was filled with an atmosphere of love and friendship, precisely what the newlyweds desired for their wedding—warmth, connection, and happiness.
The highlight of the wedding was the moment when Naresh and Katrina poured champagne into a pyramid of glasses. It was a beautiful moment that became the perfect highlight of the evening.
