A Swiss Alps Wedding Weekend Full of Bright Color and Mountain Views

Ethan and Yasmine met on Hinge in August 2018 and had their first date the following month in New York City. They were drawn to each other right away through their shared backgrounds. Both grew up in Southern California, Ethan in Los Angeles and Yasmine in San Diego, both went to college in the Midwest, Ethan at Indiana University and Yasmine at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, and both began their careers at Macy’s through the same training program. The connection was easy and instant, and they quickly became inseparable. They moved in together in New York in July 2021 and got engaged in June 2024.

Location: Adelboden, Switzerland
Style: Colorful, Bright, Classy
Number of guests: 90
Time of planning:
1 year
Season:
Summer
Setting: Ski Lodge

Yasmine and Ethan wanted the wedding to be a true celebration of summer, with a touch of elegance in the Swiss Alps, and they pulled it off beautifully. The vision began with the setting, a mountain-top ski lodge in Adelboden with dramatic alpine views. From there, they built the design around seasonal flowers, bright color, and thoughtful details that gave the tablescape and the venue real energy and personality. The jewel-toned palette was festive, expressive, and exactly right for summer, and Family Films Studio filmed it all with the same joy.

Yasmine had also been inspired by bridal parties that don’t wear matching dresses, so each member of hers chose her own dress, one that reflected her personality while still working with the palette, a smart choice that made the group look as individual as it was close. To set the tone, the couple made the attire black tie optional and asked guests to skip black. Above all, they wanted guests to relax, never worry about the next drink, enjoy the music, and taste the incredible food Switzerland has to offer, and it was clear every guest was well looked after.

Fashion

Because the venue was intimate, Yasmine knew she didn’t want a large, grand dress that would take over the space. She pictured a strapless gown with a flowy skirt and found it in All Who Wander by Essense of Australia. A silk scarf added a modern, fashion-forward touch. Comfort mattered too, so she chose low Sam Edelman rhinestone mesh shoes that let her walk and dance with ease, with a playful sparkle underneath.

Her accessories carried the most meaning. Her mother-in-law gave her diamond stud earrings for the day and lent her a pearl heirloom necklace with a gold-and-diamond clasp that belonged to Ethan’s grandmother. A cousin gave her the other half of a bracelet set from their grandmother, who wore the bracelets every day. After their grandmother passed away, each cousin received three of the six, and Yasmine’s was engraved “To Yasmine, From Joelle, in memoriam of Claude.” She wore it on the wedding day and has worn it every day since. Her something blue and borrowed was a blue sapphire ring from her sister-in-law, another family heirloom. For her hair and makeup, Yasmine wanted her hair down, curled, and off her face, with natural makeup and a touch of glam.

Ethan wore a navy tuxedo from Todd Snyder, with Todd Snyder x Sanders dress shoes and a Todd Snyder bow tie. The personal details finished the look. His mother gave him black onyx and diamond cuff links, answering his request for a bit of “bling.” Yasmine gave him a Tissot watch as a wedding gift, picked as a nod to wearing a Swiss watch at a Swiss wedding.

First Look

Some of the happiest moments came before the ceremony, as Yasmine and Ethan each got ready with their friends close by. They shared a first look, then traveled from Adelboden village up to Hahnenmoos, a quiet, meaningful moment together before the celebration began.

Ceremony

The couple chose Adelboden for Yasmine’s deep family ties to the area. Her paternal great-grandfather retired there, and the family has kept a chalet in the village ever since. She spent much of her childhood visiting, with summers in the Alps and time with her Swiss family, including her grandmother and a cousin. Hahnenmoos was the ideal spot for the ceremony, because it let the couple share extraordinary mountain views with their guests and celebrate at the top of the mountain.

They wanted the ceremony to feel personal and non-religious, so they asked Ethan’s best friend from college to officiate, someone who also became a close friend of Yasmine’s after they all spent time together living in New York City. During the ceremony, Yasmine and Ethan shared personal vows in front of their guests, which made the moment feel intimate while keeping everyone part of it. More than anything, they wanted the day to be an unforgettable celebration, with food and drinks flowing and music that kept everyone dancing.

Cocktail Hour & Moments Together

One of the most playful planning details was hiring a witch to cast a spell for beautiful weather all weekend, a fun touch that suited a mountain celebration and became part of the wedding story.

Cocktail hour was another highlight, giving guests time to take in the mountain views and settle into the festive mood. Once the music started, the dance floor became just what the couple had hoped for: lively, full, and one nobody will forget.

Reception

The reception carried on the bright, seasonal mood of the ceremony. The flowers were colorful and natural, as if a guest had strolled along the hillside and picked a bouquet in the mountains. The couple skipped signature cocktails and chose a few Swiss favorites along with a range of spritzes. They were just as particular about the wine and picked each variety served through the evening themselves. The food and desserts reflected the local setting too. The cake came from Yasmine’s favorite bakery in Adelboden, Haueter, and a family friend who worked as a pastry chef at Hahnenmoos made the other desserts.

Toasts came from Yasmine’s dad, Ethan’s dad, Yasmine’s maid of honor Julia, her best friend from college, and Ethan’s best man Nathaniel, his younger brother.

Music mattered most at the reception, and the couple worked closely with their DJ to set the right mood. They gave clear lists of must-play and do-not-play songs so the night would feel personal, high-energy, and true to them, and once the dancing started, they wanted guests to stay on the floor and keep the energy up. Their first dance was to “Lover” by Taylor Swift. Yasmine is a huge fan, and the song fit their relationship, including the warmth and joy of friends visiting their New York City apartment.

Advice from the couple:

• Yasmine and Ethan’s advice was that no detail is too small to plan ahead for. Every ounce of preparation was worth it because it allowed them to be fully present with their guests and enjoy the day without worrying about logistics.
