Location: Solar de Pancas, Portugal
Style: Elegant, timeless, romantic, festive
Number of guests: 130
The time of planning: 9 months
Setting: A historic estate
Season: Fall
Tamara and Karl, based in Amsterdam, met at work over six years ago and quickly went from friends to something more. Karl proposed in 2023, turning their living room into a dreamy surprise with the help of close friends and family—right on the anniversary of buying their first home.
After a small civil ceremony in Amsterdam, they started looking at venues just for fun until they found Solar de Pancas in Portugal and booked it on the spot. It felt meant to be. Alongside their destination wedding, they also celebrated a traditional Ghanaian ceremony a month earlier, honoring both Karl’s roots and Tamara’s Indonesian heritage.
Bride's Morning & Fashion
For Tamara, finding the look became one of the most exciting parts of planning. She and Karl both secretly took to Pinterest and Instagram for inspiration, keeping their ideas under wraps until the big reveal. She began dress shopping in the spring but quickly realized that the traditional styles offered by most Dutch bridal boutiques didn’t align with her vision. “I had a very clear idea: strapless, plain silk, dropped waist, volume, and a long, dramatic train,” she said.
Tamara’s vision came to life with Blanc Wear, an Amsterdam-based designer who instantly understood the vision. “From that moment, it felt like a match made in heaven.” The final look was a modern classic—clean and structured, paired with off-white Prada mules and a sculptural calla lily bouquet. Entre Trancas completed the look with a sleek ponytail and fresh, dewy makeup—effortlessly minimal and entirely her.
Groom's Morning & Fashion
Karl opted for a fully tailored tuxedo from Atelier Munro in Amsterdam, wearing a white jacket and shirt with classic black trousers, bowtie, waistband, and shoes.
What elevated the look were the subtle, personal touches—like the couple’s initials, “T+K,” embroidered into each piece of the suit. His mini calla lily boutonniere echoed the bride’s bouquet, creating a quiet sense of connection between their styles.
First Look
The couple shared their first look privately just before the ceremony—a quiet, emotional moment that set the tone for the day. A few of their closest friends were nearby, sneaking a peek from a distance. It wasn’t just about the two of them; it felt like everyone was part of something special.
"Their love was radiant, their energy contagious, and the whole day was filled with laughter, emotion, and stylish, open-hearted guests."

Ceremony
The ceremony took place in front of the ivy-covered estate house at Solar de Pancas, where nature did most of the work. Guests were seated in a half-circle around the couple, creating a warm, inclusive setting that felt less like a performance and more like being held in a moment. Personalized fans with the couple’s logo added a thoughtful, stylish touch, echoed in the flowing fabric welcome sign that tied everything together beautifully.
Live music carried the emotion throughout the ceremony, creating an atmosphere that felt both intimate and vibrant. Their officiant, Dennis — a well-known Ghanaian ceremony leader in the Netherlands — brought a beautiful blend of familiarity and cultural depth to the moment. His presence added so much meaning, delivering exactly what the couple had hoped for: something spiritual, joyful, and full of heart.
As they walked back down the aisle as husband and wife, a joyful Ghanaian gospel song filled the air—upbeat, emotional, and full of heart. It was the perfect final note to a deeply personal ceremony. Guests couldn’t stop talking about it afterward, calling it one of the most meaningful and unique ceremonies they’d ever witnessed.
Moments Together
Another thing that made the day so meaningful was the people. Having friends and family from all corners of the world fly in to celebrate with them in Portugal brought an overwhelming sense of love and connection. Capturing all of that was Vadim Pastuh, whose talent to document emotion, energy, and atmosphere made every photo feel alive. His work didn’t just preserve the day—it told the full story of it.
"The thing we both look back on with the biggest smile is how much we truly enjoyed the day—together. We stayed close throughout the entire experience, soaking in every moment side by side."

Cocktail Hour
After the ceremony, guests went to the garden behind the estate—a peaceful hideaway shaded by tall trees, overlooking endless vineyards and offering a new perspective of the ivy-covered house. It was the perfect setting for a cocktail hour that felt relaxed, warm, and alive. A live Bossa Nova band set the tone with soft Portuguese tunes and breezy Brazilian classics, creating an effortless rhythm with guests swaying as they mingled.
Planning & Decor
The wedding vision was a direct extension of the couple’s personal style—elegant, minimal, warm, and deeply romantic. They had a clear sense of direction from the start, creating mood boards that felt like a dream. “Our style just came naturally, and we never really questioned it,” Tamara shared.
While they brought on a styling team toward the end to help execute the vision, the creative direction was entirely their own—especially hers. With a strong visual concept already in place, the team at About Events Portugal helped bring it to life on the day with precision and care.
The aesthetic was timeless and modern, with soulful details that mirrored the landscape of Solar de Pancas. Inspired by the lush surroundings, they chose a rich, warm green as the foundation of their color palette—woven through the stationery, bridesmaids’ dresses, and florals—balanced by crisp whites to keep everything fresh and refined. The S-shaped layout of round tables created a flow of connection, dressed in calla lilies, hydrangeas, anthuriums, and grapes—an elegant, grounded nod to the vineyard setting.
Reception
The reception began with the kind of atmosphere only the couple could have curated—laid-back, soulful, and intentionally warm. Music was at the heart of it all. They flew in their trusted crew of DJs and MCs from the Netherlands, longtime friends who knew exactly how to set the tone. During dinner, smooth old-school R&B and slow jams played softly in the background, wrapping guests in a romantic, nostalgic mood.
A surprise live performance by Nnelg kicked off the party with a burst of energy that had everyone on their feet. Later, guests gathered again in the garden for the cake-cutting and bouquet toss. The setting had transformed—string lights twinkled overhead, and guests held sparklers, creating a glowing tunnel as the couple walked in. It felt straight out of a movie: joyful, cinematic, and deeply full of love.
The champagne spray was one of the most memorable moments. Just after cutting the cake, Karl opened the bottle with calm precision—but Tamara had other plans. “I wanted that dramatic champagne spray moment,” she said. She took over, shook the bottle with full force, and popped it in a glorious spray with everyone cheering. It was the perfect mix of their personalities—his quiet cool, her sparkle—and a moment that perfectly captured the energy and fun of the night.
"The sense of ease and freedom allowed us to be present, laugh, cry, dance, and just fully live in the moment."
Tamara, The Bride
Advice from the couple:
• Enjoy every single moment together, and don’t get caught up in the tiny details. It’s so easy to overthink things during the planning process, but in the end, what people remember most are the connections, the emotions, and the overall vibe of the day.
• The energy you bring as a couple really sets the tone. So stay close, be present, let go of the need for perfection, and just soak it all in—it goes by so fast!
