Ruben and Emily, both originally from Durban, South Africa, met through mutual school friends in 2011. They immediately hit it off, bonding over late-night texts and adventures around town. Even when Emily moved to Florida, USA, a year later, their friendship remained strong, enduring the challenges of distance and time.
In 2017, Emily traveled back to South Africa, reigniting her feelings for Ruben. Her decision to stay for university allowed their love story to blossom. Their journey together has since taken them to the Cayman Islands and eventually to London, England. With their families spread across the globe, they dreamed of a destination wedding that would bring together their loved ones from all over the world.
Having been captivated by romantic comedies since childhood, Emily dreamed of a wedding straight out of a Nancy Meyers film. The chosen venue perfectly captured the essence of movies like “The Notebook” and “Father of the Bride.” Located in Orlando, Florida, the Cypress Grove Estate House provided a picturesque setting—a lakeside 1952 colonial home nestled amidst 80 acres of lush, tree-lined grounds adorned with aged oak and cypress trees.
Embracing the natural charm of the Cypress Grove Estate, the couple curated a garden party theme that complemented the venue’s aesthetics. Every detail, from the carefully crafted floral arrangements by Flowers by Lesley to the décor overseen by Bella Sposa Events, was thoughtfully selected to enhance the Estate’s inherent beauty. Adding a personal touch, Emily herself contributed her creative flair to the design of all signage.
The wedding morning was filled with excitement and a nervous energy. While everyone sang along to Taylor Swift and sipped on mimosas, a moment of panic struck when Emily realized her custom veil had been left behind in Ft. Lauderdale. Thankfully, the father of the bride sprang into action, searching every bridal store in the area. With Emily’s approval over Facetime, he found a replacement within the hour. The new veil, with its pearl detailing, was a perfect match for her earrings—a fortunate turn of events, as Emily couldn’t imagine wearing any other veil.
One of the most treasured parts of the wedding was the active participation of their families. Emily’s grandmother, a skilled hairstylist from South Africa, not only attended the wedding but also styled the hair of the bridal party, including Emily’s.
Emily radiated beauty in a crepe Essence of Australia gown featuring a stunning lace-adorned train. Her hair was styled in a sleek low bun, adding a touch of sophistication and drawing attention to the intricate details of her dress. Inspired by Hailey Bieber’s wedding day makeup, she chose a glowy and soft palette.
Emily had two first looks—one with her bridesmaids and one with her father. Both moments were incredibly touching, creating a lovely and emotional atmosphere.
Ruben had a calm wedding morning with him sitting at a vintage desk writing his vows. His mother, offering gentle support, added a warm touch to the moment, beautifully captured by their photographers at Fox & Film.
Ruben looked incredibly sophisticated in a Ralph Lauren tuxedo, complete with a classic bowtie, suspenders, custom cuff links, and embroidered socks. The attention to detail in his attire mirrored the meticulous planning of the day.
There was a special atmosphere before the ceremony, filled with excitement and anticipation for the wonderful and touching ceremony ahead.
The ceremony took place at the serene lakeside gazebo, adorned with lush florals and foliage. Guests were serenaded by the melodies of the Classern Quartet’s violinists as they awaited the wedding party’s arrival. Emily, in true Swiftie fashion, made her entrance to the enchanting strains of “Wildest Dreams.” Against this picturesque backdrop, the couple exchanged deeply personal vows, weaving reflections of their past and promises for the future.
When it came time to select an officiant, there was no doubt that Emily’s grandfather, Theo, was the perfect choice. With his blend of humor and heartfelt sentimentality, the ceremony was infused with warmth and authenticity. Adding to the intimacy of the moment, Ruben’s father also contributed by reading a touching passage.
Selecting the perfect photographer was very important for the Ruben and Emily. After considering various options, they discovered Fox & Film and immediately felt a synergy with the duo’s artistic approach. They beautifully captured all the special touches and moments of this magical wedding, portraying the timeless garden party with their intuitive knack for seizing fleeting moments. Embracing the essence of the day in their dreamy, documentary style, Fox & Film ensured that no emotion was overlooked.
The newlyweds took a moment to capture photos of each other with a film camera. These shots had a true personal touch, making them especially meaningful and beautiful.
The reception space exuded elegance and charm, perfectly reflecting the couple’s vision for their special day. Tables were adorned with gold accents, from the candlesticks to the intricately designed vases holding lush white florals and greenery. Each table setting was meticulously arranged with delicate glassware, gold flatware, and elegant menus, creating a sophisticated yet inviting atmosphere.
A standout feature was the Polaroid guest book table, where guests could snap, shake, and stick their photos and leave heartfelt messages for the newlyweds. This personal touch added a layer of intimacy and fun to the wedding.
The newlyweds made their grand entrance to loud cheers from their guests just as the sun was setting, casting a golden glow over the celebration.
The evening unfolded beautifully with heartfelt speeches that brought laughter and tears, special first dances, and a delectable buffet dinner beneath the twinkling string lights. The couple also shared touching dances with their parents, adding even more warmth and sentiment to the night.
Later in the evening, Emily changed into a sleek maxi dress with a chic halter neckline and a captivating low v-back, exuding timeless elegance.
Amid laughter and joy, the cake-cutting and late-night donut indulgence added to the festivities, culminating in lively dancing from guests of all ages.
For those familiar with South African celebrations, the spirited energy and wild dance moves reflected the night’s joyful spirit.
Ruben and Emily savored a private moment on the dance floor before bidding farewell to loved ones with a sparkler exit. With hearts full of cherished memories, they drove off into the night in their getaway car, beginning their journey into married life.
