Michela and Mauro’s wedding on the Sorrento coast was a celebration filled with personality, emotion, and thoughtful details that reflected their creative spirits. As a wedding photographer and a writer, they shaped a day that felt deeply personal, from the symbolic ceremony overlooking the sea to a joyful reception of music, speeches, and dancing. Luigi Reccia beautifully captured the story of their celebration, sharing that the connection with the couple felt immediate and that Michela trusted his process completely, allowing him to capture the day with total freedom.
Location: Sorrento, Italy
Style: Colorful, elegant, romantic
Time of planning: 1,5 years
Number of guests: 130
Setting: A 19th-century private villa
Season: Fall
Michela and Mauro’s story feels cinematic from the very beginning, considering it started with a shared love for film. Michela, a talented wedding photographer based in Southern Italy, grew up surrounded by photography. Her father, now retired, was also a photographer, and she carried the family legacy into a contemporary chapter of visual storytelling. Mauro is a writer, passionate and known for always choosing the right words.
They met thanks to a mutual friend during a cineforum Michela had organized at Circolo degli Artisti in Torre Annunziata. What seemed like a simple evening thirteen years ago quietly became the first chapter of their love story. Mauro proposed on Valentine’s Day during a romantic weekend in Tuscia, after dinner in the historic center of Viterbo. In an apartment within the ancient walls of San Martino al Cimino, he gave her an antique ring custom-made by a craftswoman, set with a green gemstone symbolizing everlasting love.
Bride's Fashion
Michela’s wedding look was custom-made by haute couture designer Emanuele Bilancia. She wore a silk tulle skirt with a delicately embroidered bodice adorned with five white flowers, symbolizing both delicacy and strength. For the cake cutting and final dances, she changed into a white silk evening gown featuring the same pure floral motif, creating a seamless continuation of her bridal style.
Her softly layered waves and natural, refined makeup by Simona Alberti highlighted her features with understated elegance. She completed the look with gold thread drop earrings adorned with beads, light-toned handmade Mary Jane shoes by Sézane, and a Jo Malone fragrance with notes of frangipani and fresh lemon.
One of the sweetest and most personal touches was Michela bringing her camera to the wedding. Her love for film photography runs deep, she still photographs weddings using the same Hasselblad camera that once belonged to her father. Carrying it with her felt symbolic, a quiet tribute to the legacy that shaped her and a beautiful way of honoring the story that brought her here.
Groom's Fashion
Mauro wore a custom white double-breasted tuxedo by haute couture designer Emanuele Bilancia, a bold and refined choice that perfectly matched the setting. For the cake cutting and final dances, he changed into a midnight blue tuxedo jacket, adding depth and contrast to the evening look.
His accessories were deeply personal: gold cufflinks shaped as a half-moon and a strawberry, handcrafted by the same goldsmith who created their wedding rings; a slim bow tie sewn by the designer; a gold and onyx chevalier ring; and a gold bracelet that once belonged to his grandfather. As a final touch, Mauro wore a vintage gold rose-shaped brooch gifted by Michela, styled as a boutonniere.
Ceremony
The symbolic ceremony took place in the villa’s garden beneath elegant arches overlooking the endless sea. Michela entered with her father to “Planetarium” from the La La Land soundtrack, a moment that felt cinematic and deeply emotional.
The exchange of vows became one of the most memorable moments of the ceremony. At the beginning of her speech, Michela playfully told Mauro, “Darling, as everyone knows, you’re the writer, and you’re good with words. But I’m good with pictures.” At that moment, her best man handed her a film camera, and she captured a photo of Mauro.
Mauro then read a deeply moving dedication, recalling the day they first met and how he fell in love with her “beautiful Japanese eyes,” as he affectionately calls them. He retraced their thirteen-year journey together, remembering the moments that shaped their story, and ended by asking to spend a lifetime watching those eyes grow old beside his.
Officiated by a close friend, the ceremony was intimate and profoundly moving. There were heartfelt speeches from friends, tears from the couple, and an atmosphere charged with emotion. The exchange of vows was met with long applause, followed by the joyful tradition of rice being thrown as the celebration began.
Inspiration & Photography
Everyone knows that planning a wedding can be complicated, and when the bride is a wedding photographer, it might seem like things would be easier or perhaps even more complex. In reality, Michela helped simplify the process by dividing the planning into two phases. The first focused on the key decisions: choosing the beautiful location, selecting their trusted wedding photographer, finding the right florist, and arranging the cocktail catering, which made the beginning feel surprisingly smooth.
The second phase began a few months before the wedding and proved to be more demanding, as they carefully worked through every detail, even the smallest ones, from design choices to thoughtfully planning the seating so that guests would feel comfortable and connected. In the end, thanks to the incredible team behind the celebration, everything came together beautifully, and the day unfolded exactly as they had hoped.
Luigi Reccia, their wedding photographer, brought the story of the day to life through his images, capturing the couple with a natural and heartfelt perspective. He shared that the connection with Michela and Mauro felt immediate. “We didn’t actually know each other in person before she booked me, but we had followed each other’s work. When she called me for her wedding, I was surprised and honored. I discovered how passionate and kind she is as a person, and she immediately trusted my process, allowing me to work freely without any pressure.”
Reception Design
The color palette, centered on green, was chosen to symbolize an everlasting, life-filled love. The couple personally oversaw every detail to ensure the celebration felt authentic and truly reflected their story. Michela, a photographer and graphic designer, created the wedding invitation and logo featuring Mr. Half Moon and Miss Strawberry, their playful nicknames, happily toasting their union. Mauro, a writer and content creator, crafted all the texts and even wrote a rhyming poem to capture the day’s joyful spirit.
During the ceremony, each guest received an escort card guiding them to tables named after iconic films that reflect true Neapolitan style. The tables were decorated with hydroponic plants such as pothos, philodendron, and monstera, which guests later took home together with a meaningful gift: the Recipe Book of Mamma Pina, the groom’s mother, who had sadly passed away ten years earlier.
Reception
The reception began with lively tunes performed by the rockabilly band Dixie & Co. As the bridesmaids and groomsmen made their entrance, followed by the groom with his father, the band played “Live Is Life” by Opus, a joyful tribute recalling the legendary football era of Diego Armando Maradona. The moment set a joyful tone for the evening, accompanied by sparkling wine, champagne, cocktails, and a selection of Mediterranean appetizers that welcomed guests into the festivities.
One of the most unforgettable moments came late into the night, during wild dancing, when a guest took the microphone at midnight to wish the newlyweds a happy birthday. Mauro and Michela share the same birthday, which falls the day after their wedding, making the celebration even more special. Later, a close friend, an opera singer, dedicated a beautiful rendition of “Love Me Tender” to them, adding a magical and emotional touch to an already unforgettable evening.
The night concluded with a vibrant cake cutting moment that brought everyone together once more before the celebration turned into a lively dance party that lasted late into the night. Surrounded by friends, music, and pure joy, the newlyweds and their guests filled the floor with energy, ending the evening in the same spirit of happiness that defined the entire day.
Advice from the couple:
• Your wedding day is the seal of your love. Anyone who chooses to get married should do so in the most romantic and personal way possible, and for that to happen, you must always do so with one fundamental principle in mind: the freedom to choose. Let everyone help you, especially professionals in the field, discuss your options, and choose the best course of action. In the end, your happiness will be what matters.
