A Boho-Inspired Beach Wedding in Mexico

Featured Members:

From a serendipitous reunion to a breathtaking wedding in Mexico, their love story unfolded like a carefully written novel. Gabrielle and Matthew grew up in the same small hometown, their paths first crossed in middle school, but they weren’t close then. After high school, life took them in separate directions, only to bring them back together once they were ready for each other.

Several years later they met again in the bustling heart of New York City, where they both moved for graduate school. They reconnected through mutual friends and shared interests in the city that never sleeps. Their friendship deepened and naturally evolved into a beautiful and undeniable love. Their shared passions, especially, for travel and cultural exploration, forged a deep bond. This love for adventure and discovery became the foundation for their relationship and played a pivotal role in their wedding planning.

"We found ourselves spending more and more time together and eventually, our friendship deepened into a beautiful and undeniable love."

Location: Costa Careyes, Jalisco, Mexico
Style: Boho, beachside
Time of planning: 1 year
Number of guests: 80

Setting: Beach

From the start of their wedding planning, Mexico was the clear choice for Gabrielle and Matthew. Both had been visiting Mexico for the past ten years, long before they started dating. Their shared appreciation for Mexican culture became a significant part of their bond, and they began exploring the country together as soon as they started dating.

"We had no idea this special place would become the focal point of our wedding, but after spending just one night, we knew we wanted this place to live on in our story forever."

In 2023, Gabrielle and Matthew took a three-week trip around Puerto Vallarta and Baja California to scout potential wedding venues. Based on a friend’s recommendation, they decided to visit Careyes for a break from their planning.

They never expected this place to become the center of their wedding, but after spending just one night there, Gabrielle and Matthew knew they found their venue. With its private and pristine beaches, scattered art pieces, and colorful architecture, Gabrielle and Matthew knew Careyes was the perfect location for their wedding. Its stunning natural beauty inspired the entire celebration.

Bride & Groom's Fashion

Gabrielle wore a beautiful Rue de Seine gown by Adara, featuring intricate lace details that perfectly matched the beachside setting. Her shoes were Melody Bridal Shoes from Forever Soles, combining elegance and comfort. Gabrielle’s accessories were deeply meaningful: a bracelet from her mother’s wedding, earrings from Untamed Petals, and a necklace with an evil eye charm gifted by Matthew.

Her bouquet was a stunning mix of flowers, including orange tulips, peach roses, white ranunculus, and a variety of greenery. It reflected the vibrant colors of the setting and added a pop of color to her overall look. With makeup and hair styled to highlight her natural beauty, Gabrielle looked stunning and elegant on her wedding day.

"I felt every bit the radiant bride, carrying a bouquet that reflected the vibrant colors of the setting and wearing a dress with intricately detailed lace."

Matthew wore a custom-made Coat Barong, honoring his Filipino heritage. The boutonniere added a subtle floral touch, complementing Gabrielle’s bouquet.

"Matt’s attire was a perfect nod to his cultural roots, blending tradition with personal style, making him feel both comfortable and proud."

First Look

Gabrielle and Matthew shared a first look before the ceremony. They took a walk around the venue, allowing their photographer to capture stunning pictures of the couple in the beautiful setting.

The couple entrusted Sasha Samsonova to capture their special day. She took a gentle approach to the photo shoot, ensuring that everyone felt comfortable and natural in front of the camera. This allowed her to document plenty of sincere moments and bright smiles. The photos radiate warmth, almost allowing viewers to feel the rays of the Mexican sun, gentle breeze and hear the ocean sounds.

Ceremony

The couple shuttled their guests from the hotel to the ceremony beach, where margaritas and beer were served upon arrival. Instead of a traditional wedding party, all their siblings and their partners walked down the aisle with them. Their French Bulldog, Dexter, also played a special role, walking down the aisle accompanied by Gabrielle’s sister.

"We didn’t see the ceremony location until the day before the wedding, and it was even more breathtaking than we imagined. The palm trees framed the altar perfectly, with the ocean glistening behind us."

Gabrielle and Matthew wanted the ceremony to be unique and personal, so they had friends and family read passages they selected together. A close friend’s officiation made the event heartfelt and entertaining.

They included the Lasso ceremony, where their mothers placed the cord over their shoulders, symbolizing the binding of two souls in love—a nod to their shared Filipino and Mexican heritages. This created a perfect fusion of traditions and modern romance.

The couple wrote their own vows, which were so sincere that the whole crowd, including their wedding planner, teared up. “It was so special and emotional!” Gabrielle highlighted.

"I custom-made our lasso out of macrame cord and beads, now a special keepsake from our special day."

Private Moment

As the sun was setting, Gabrielle and Matthew enjoyed a quiet walk together, savoring their first moments as husband and wife. The serene beach at Playa Paraiso, with its calm waters and picturesque cliffs, provided the perfect backdrop for their photographs. Captured by Sasha Samsonova, the photos reflect the love and joy they felt in that intimate moment. The soft light of the setting sun and the gentle waves made their photos truly unforgettable.

Reception

The enchanting reception was also set by the ocean. The long tables were elegantly decorated with beige linens, and each place setting featured delicate white plates, silver cutlery, and soft blue napkins, complementing the natural hues of the ocean. The stationery, including the menus, featured palm tree illustrations, tying the beach theme together seamlessly.

The centerpieces included vibrant floral arrangements with tulips, roses, and dahlias in shades of peach, pink, and orange, displayed in beautiful talavera vases that added a touch of Mexican culture. String lights hung above, creating a warm and inviting ambiance as the sunset.

Guests were welcomed with the lively sounds of a mariachi band, signature cocktails, and appetizers under the palm trees.

"We wanted our celebration to blend seamlessly with the picturesque beach setting. Vibrant colors and traditional talavera accents brought a lively and authentic Mexican flair."

Evening Celebration

The evening at Playa Paraiso was a joyous celebration under the stars, with toes in the sand and music playing a central role. Gabrielle and Matthew’s friends, who are talented DJs, kept the dance floor alive, and heartfelt toasts from their guests moved everyone deeply.

Their first dance to “Your Song” by Elton John was a magical moment that will forever be cherished in their hearts. Gabrielle shared, “Our friends, who are talented DJs, kept the energy high and the dance floor packed, creating an unforgettable atmosphere.

The warm glow of string lights overhead created a cozy atmosphere, making the evening even more magical. Instead of a traditional cake, the couple opted for churros, a traditional Mexican dessert.

For Gabrielle and Matthew, the most memorable moment was sitting down to dinner and seeing all their loved ones together, laughing and smiling.

"It was a beautiful moment to take in, surrounded by the warmth and love of our family and friends."

Advice from the couple:

• Take a moment just for yourselves during the reception. We took a quick break at our villa to change, check on our dog, and privately stay together for a few moments. It’s a whirlwind of a day, and those few quiet minutes were invaluable for us to connect and soak it all in.
