Delaney and Robbie met on a dating app just before graduation, when both were students at the University of Chicago. She was completing her bachelor’s degree, and he was finishing his PhD. Robbie found Delaney so funny that he encouraged her to take a stand-up comedy class, but Delaney agreed only if Robbie joined her. Their first few dates consisted of working on their material together. By chance, they both moved to Southern California after graduation – Delaney for law school at UCLA and Robbie for a professorship at UCSD. Their medium-distance relationship blossomed until COVID-19 allowed them to move in together, and the rest is history.

The couple chose Delaney’s hometown of Sonoma, CA, as the perfect location for their summer wedding. They planned the event over the course of a year, inviting 60 guests to join them at Delaney’s family vineyard, where Delaney’s parents had also tied the knot. They drew inspiration from the natural beauty of the place with its breathtaking rolling hills. They envisioned a day where their guests could enjoy great music, food, and wine in a comfortable and scenic environment.

Delaney and Robbie shared a magical first-look moment in an intimate setting, making the moment truly special. Delaney looked stunning in her ballgown with a structured sleeveless bodice and a whimsical tulle skirt, perfectly matching the romantic garden vibe of the wedding. Her soft pink makeup and loose waves emphasized her natural beauty. She carried a bright bouquet of hot pink peonies, orange California poppies, sweet peas, and thistles, adding a vibrant touch to her look. Robbie chose a white-on-white suit with a white tie and a boutonniere featuring an orange California poppy and sweet pea, which complimented his bride’s bouquet.

Photographer Diane Bagaoisan did an incredible job capturing the gentle emotions and love between the couple. The photos are colorful and clear, showcasing Delaney and Robbie’s joy and smiles amidst the vibrant colors of the Californian summer. Diane’s work conveyed a whimsical and natural atmosphere, perfectly reflecting the couple’s aesthetic.

The wedding ceremony overlooked the rolling hills of Sonoma and was officiated by Delaney’s long-time friend and rabbi from the university. Guests were seated on elegant wooden chairs under the shade of large olive trees while the couple stood beneath a beautiful birch chuppah adorned with vibrant florals. Delaney and Robbie included the Jewish tradition of Kiddush, the benediction over wine, symbolizing their commitment to sharing all experiences and blessings in their life together. This meaningful ritual added a deeply personal touch to the ceremony. The couple concluded their vows with a heartfelt kiss, wrapping their arms around each other, marking the beginning of their new life together.

After the ceremony, guests gathered on the patio for a cocktail hour. The setting featured cozy lounge seating, cocktail tables, and vibrant floral arrangements that enhanced the relaxed garden-party atmosphere. Guests sipped on lavender lemonade and local wines from grapes grown in the family vineyard, enjoying the picturesque surroundings.

One of the highlights of the day was their miniature dachshund, Franny, who wore a white collar and leash to match her parents and charmed all the guests.

Guests enjoyed appetizers and a delicious dinner of grilled steak and seafood paella at various food stations. Friends and family mingled comfortably among the seating areas. Robbie picked out every song for the reception, setting the perfect mood with a great mix of music. Instead of a traditional wedding cake, the couple treated everyone to their favorite dessert: miniature crème brûlées.

As the sun began to set, Delaney and Robbie took a moment alone to walk through the vineyard. This quiet time allowed them to reflect on their special day amidst the beautiful surroundings of Sonoma. Photographer Diane Bagaoisan skillfully documented these serene moments, beautifully showcasing the couple’s love against the vibrant backdrop of the vineyard.

Their intimate day perfectly mirrored the essence of their love story, leaving lasting memories for all who attended.

Advice from the couple:

  • Personalize Your Wedding! We chose to forgo many traditional elements like a wedding party, gifts, and a cake to create a personal experience that reflected our values. Hosting the wedding at a private home added flexibility and intimacy while involving our family in the preparations made the day special. Delaney’s grandparents hosted, her dad built the ketubah, and her sisters helped plan every step of the way.

  • One thing we would change is ordering more patio umbrellas because the day was hotter and sunnier than expected. Always have a backup plan for weather conditions to ensure your guests are comfortable!
