Prepare to be swept away by the wonder of Barbiecore as we, along with our experts – Jove and Jennifer – unveil the secrets to planning a wedding straight out of a fairy tale.

Venues

Jove offers two fantastic options for an ideal Barbiecore venue. The first option is a clean and minimal space that serves as a blank canvas to bring in the hot pink magic. The second one is something pink that you can build and design around. “Barbie lived in a cute house, so having a Barbiecore wedding at home or a residential venue also fits nicely, especially if there is a pool and some pops of color furniture!” – Jove says.

Having a pool and vibrant furniture in the lounge area adds a playful and lively element to the wedding experience. It’s a wonderful way to enhance the Barbiecore theme and create a captivating ambiance for your guests to revel in.

When it comes to pink venues, several stunning options immediately come to mind – The Ringling Museum, The Royal Hawaiian Resort, Hacienda de San Antonio, Sands Hotel & Spa, and Fairmont Grand Del Mar. These venues provide a dreamy and enchanting backdrop, making bringing your Barbie-inspired wedding vision to life easier.

Design / Color Palette

Jove says, “Pink is at the core of the Barbiecore theme, hot pink especially, but lean into multiple shades of pink, and you are right on the money! I think you could also add pastel pink, purple, and blue to the mix with pops of white, and you’re good to go! I would stay away from oranges, yellows, and greens and stick with pinks, purples, and baby blues!” The trio of these colors is absolutely perfect. Soft and gentle, they seamlessly blend into one another and create a delightful and enchanting ambiance reminiscent of childhood memories and cotton candy.

Jennifer notes that “Barbiecore is all about that monochromatic life.” While this concept is a beautiful way to stay true to the theme, she cautions that when working with similar colors, paying attention to textures and the overall balance of shapes becomes crucial. This attention to detail ensures that the design remains visually engaging and dynamic.

Barbiecore Elements in Decor

Jove highlights the importance of flowers in infusing Barbiecore vibes into your wedding decor. To achieve this aesthetic, he suggests a clean and modern approach by using one or two main ingredients per vase without any filler or greenery.

He goes, “An easy way to add the Barbiecore aesthetic to the wedding is the tabletop design; think pink linen and napkins, two tones, one darker than the other for contrast, a clean white chair, and then pink flowers, and you’re good to go! Also, if you have white light bulbs in your venue, see if you can swap them out for pink. Really go all in!”

Jennifer, continuing her thought about the vitality of shapes and textures that can make a monochrome Barbicore wedding stand out, says, “Think about an oversized menu card, place card or adornment on your tables that surprises. Add a little more sparkle than you think you need to a welcome sign. Pink cocktails are always adorable and remember to have a focal structure that will pull the Barbiecore look together. But remember, whenever you go to a themed wedding or event, you have to be careful to do it correctly. It is for sure a “go big or go home” mentality as if you miss the mark, the theme will be lost to just another pink wedding.”

Entertainment

Jennifer advises to focus on fun. She believes the energy of your entertainment will carry the theme home and get your guests on the dance floor all night. While a band or DJ is a solid choice, Jennifer suggests exploring various entertainment options to amplify your guests’ enjoyment. Consider incorporating diverse elements like staged photo opportunities for guests, complete with take-home pictures, or even an unconventional and exciting performer—imagine a group of Barbiecore roller-skaters igniting the dance floor! “Just THINK BIG and have a lot of fun along the way.”

We’ve observed a delightful trend in party carts, such as cotton candy carts offering sophisticated flavors like champagne and mango, topped with gourmet delights like edible flowers or sugar glitter. These eye-catching treats will surely provide the “wow factor” that guests will love. Don’t forget to consider other enticing options, like popcorn or frosé carts, to elevate the party experience further.

Jove is sure that any entertainment would work well with this theme. However, to elevate the event to its highest potential, Jove suggests encouraging guests to dress in “Barbiecore” outfits that perfectly complement the overall ambiance and theme. After all, a bit of playful dress-up can add an extra layer of excitement to the occasion. To delve deeper into the dress code, let’s proceed to the next section, where we’ll discuss it in greater detail.

Dress Code

Jove LOVES the Barbiecore trend, and we can see why! It’s all about embracing joy, creativity, and a carefree spirit, making it the perfect choice for a wedding day that feels like a dream come true. “Barbie is all about the accessories, so encourage guests to accessorize in fun, creative, and Barbie-inspired ways!” – he says.

But here’s the beauty of the wide world of different wedding planners – it allows for diverse perspectives and unique visions. On the other hand, Jennifer LOVES having guests all in another shade, not pink. She advises you to let your event be the pop of color and ask guests to wear a neutral or black palette to offset. She says it allows photos to be full of color and not go flat due to an overabundance of the same tone.

As for us, we like when guys don pink jackets and suits while the bridesmaids wear solid pink dresses and patterned dresses. This approach celebrates individuality, ensuring each woman feels amazing in a dress that suits her style and personality. Here are some essential points to consider when implementing the mismatched aesthetic:

  • To add a touch of uniqueness and character, let your bridesmaids choose from a range of dress styles such as halter, one-shoulder, spaghetti strap, sweetheart, and strapless;

  • Stick to a 2-3 shade color palette if you want a more cohesive aesthetic. However, if you desire a vibrant burst of colors, consider an expanded palette that includes shades of orange and coral, adding an extra flair to the celebration;

  • If your bridesmaids opt for floral-printed dresses, previewing them to ensure they complement one another is better. This step guarantees a seamless and visually appealing combination of patterns;

  • Be open for your bridesmaids wearing suits, too – ideally, the shade of suits should complement at least one of the bridesmaids’ dresses. It balances different textures and styles, creating a harmonious visual effect.

More Kind Tips

There is some more valuable advice from Jove Meyer:

  • All pink everything can be overwhelming for some people, and it may not fit in the venue you have booked, so consider your space, the season, and your style when leaning into a Barbiecore wedding.

  • Ensure your fiance is on board with the hot pink party that is on the way!

  • You do not need to go hardcore Barbiecore. You could just do a pop of Barbiecore and lean into Barbiecore in the ways that make you happy and excited!

  • Find your favorite Barbiecore moments and lean into them in decor or fashion.

  • Don’t forget to play the iconic song “Barbie Girl” to infuse even more fun into your celebration!
