Creating a Glowing Daytime Look
To create a glowing, soft ceremony look, start with a fresh canvas by using a cleansing balm to remove any residual makeup from the day before. We love Clinique Take The Day Off Cleansing Balm and removing the balm with a dampened cotton pad for gentle exfoliation. Prep the skin with a hydrating serum, eye cream and moisturizer and let the skincare do its work while getting started on the eye makeup.
We like using a long-wearing cream eyeshadow stick as a base on the lids and building intensity with powder eyeshadow and a velvety long-wearing eyeliner. On Tamarra, we used Charlotte Tilbury Cream Eyeshadow in Champagne, followed by Makeup by Mario Master Matte Palette: Original, and Victoria Beckham Satin Kajal Liner in Cocoa.
After giving time for your skincare to settle in, prime your skin with your favorite primer; ours is Laura Mercier Canvas Primer or Milk Makeup Hydro Grip Primer for humid environments. From there, apply your cream and liquid makeup items: highlighter, foundation, concealer, bronzer and blush. To ensure your foundation is undetectable, I apply foundation with my fingers to warm to the skin, and then I’ll go over the face with a dampened beauty blender that’s been pressed into a small well of foundation. Going over one last time with the blender buffs out any streaks and helps the foundation melt into the skin.
Next, spritz a setting spray (Skindinavia Makeup Finishing Spray) over the creams and liquids to hold those in place. Once your creams and liquids are set, go in with a velvet puff and setting powder (our favorites are Laura Mercier Translucent and Hourglass Veil Translucent) and press through the t-zone, then dust off the excess powder with a fluffy powder brush while swirling your brush towards the outer perimeter of your face to buff and warm your powder to your skin.
Add your powder blush, powder bronzer and a luminous finishing powder (Hourglass Ambient Finishing Powder is our fave) to lock down the complexion. Fill in brows with either a pencil if you have sparse brows, or a powder if you only need to fill in a few spaces, and gel into place (NYX Brow Glue for the performance and price). Curl and coat lashes in waterproof mascara and add individual or small cluster lashes for soft, butterfly lashes. The final step is a quick sweep of your favorite finishing spray to hold your look for hours (One Size On ‘Til Dawn is a game changer).
Transitioning to a Nighttime Look
The key to changing your look from your ceremony to a party look is keeping the steps quick, simple and ultimately impactful. We find adding a deep shade to the lids creating an instant smoky eye is a fast way to add drama. On Tamarra, we swiped Victoria Beckham Kajal Liner in Smoky Quartz across the entire lid to add sparkle and depth, blended with a pencil smudge brush (BK Beauty Mini Pencil Brush), and lined the waterline with Uzo Beauty Blaque Chrome Eyeliner Pencil.
Add a bold highlighter to the top of the cheeks, creating dimension and a glossy effect, and either go bold on the lips or the extreme opposite with a nude gloss (we used NARS After Glow Lip Shine in Nympho and A-Lister).
The entire transition took less than 10 minutes and we created an entirely fresh, and glitzier look for the after-party.
Insights from Page Beauty
How would you describe your style in makeup?
At Page Beauty, our makeup style has always leaned towards a soft, elevated, polished look that’s skincare-based for a natural glow from within.
What do you love most about your work?
Besides the obvious playtime with makeup, ultimately we love playing a small role in our client’s most anticipated day, and the fact that we’re chosen to spend the wedding morning with our clients is never lost on us.
What are your favorite elements of makeup?
My favorite element of makeup is the inner transformative power it has on everyone. To hand my client the mirror at the end of our session and hear their happiness (and sometimes relief), it’s a feeling of accomplishment that I helped someone feel beautiful, not just look beautiful.
What inspired you to create this specific look?
Tamarra’s chic French lace gown with its matte texture and clean lines needed an equally chic, understated makeup look that focused on her natural beauty.
How do you tailor your makeup approach to different brides and their unique needs?
Because my makeup aesthetic has always leaned into a soft, natural look, most brides gravitate towards Page Beauty for that same aesthetic. Our brides tend to be skincare-focused and want to look like themselves on the wedding day. For brides who love a bold makeup look, I recognize my personal limitations and will pair her with one of my lead makeup artists who love a full glam. Not all makeup artists are for all people, and it’s important to honor our bride’s vision for her wedding beauty, even if that means it’s not with me.
Do you have any favorite products or tools that you always rely on for your bridal looks?
For 98% of my clients, I start with Glow Recipe Watermelon Dew Drops (except for those who are exceptionally oily), and everyone wears Face Atelier Ultra Foundation, either alone for a soft complexion or under a full coverage foundation if they prefer a heavier finish.
What advice would you give to brides who are looking to recreate this look at home?
Start practicing your wedding day look at least 4 months out, and don’t underestimate the power of using your fingers to apply creams and liquids for better control of your products. When you move to your powder products, make sure your brushes are clean and you have the right size for each step.
