A Grand Italian Wedding with Nigerian Soul

In Italy, weddings set against historic architecture and dramatic evening scenes are nothing new. But Isolay and Daniella added something rarely seen here — scale. With over six hundred guests, their day began in a church transformed centuries ago by Michelangelo and ended at Villa Aldobrandini. Captured by Alessandro Colle, the wedding merged Italian grandeur with emotional storytelling: refined, radiant, and deeply human.

Location: Rome & Frascati, Italy
Style: Classic, Elegant, Timeless
Time of planning: 1 year
Number of guests: 600
Setting: Church and Villa
Season: Summer

Originally from Nigeria, the couple brought cultural richness and rhythm into Rome’s classical calm. Their wedding became a rare dialogue between continents and a portrait of how heritage and classic elegance can exist in the same frame. Italian formality met African warmth.

Bride's Morning & Fashion

Everything about Daniella’s look leaned toward the timeless and the regal. Her ball gown was sculptural and classic, with a corseted bodice and voluminous skirt that carried quiet authority. Even her bouquet, a cascade of ivory roses and olive branches, followed the same language of royalty and restraint, keeping the palette soft and eternal.

The highlight was her pearl necklace, strand of warm, slightly golden pearls and diamonds, that added subtle drama to her traditional look. Her makeup by Glamby Olly stayed understated and luminous. Daniella’s bridesmaids appeared in powder-rose dresses, echoing the soft romantic tones of the day.

Groom's Fashion

Isolay’s look was built on contrast: sharp lines, clean tailoring, and a quiet sense of control. He wore a white double-breasted dinner jacket with peak lapels and a perfect fit through the shoulders, paired with black trousers and a bow tie for a deliberate, graphic balance.

His suit by Kabiru Abu felt modern yet deeply classic, a reflection of how today’s grooms approach refinement with personality. The groomsmen kept it sleek and traditional in black tuxedos with bow ties, adding a cohesive rhythm to the bridal party’s palette and completing the timeless, black-and-white symmetry of the day.

First look

After a quiet morning spent apart, Isolay and Daniella met before the ceremony. It was a brief, private moment that set the tone for everything that followed. Standing side by side in the grand interior, they looked perfectly balanced. The choice of a white jacket wasn’t accidental, it played against the architectural backdrop and mirrored the formality of Daniella’s gown.

Ceremony

The ceremony took place in Basilica di Santa Maria degli Angeli e dei Martiri, one of Rome’s grandest churches, redesigned by Michelangelo Buonarroti within the ancient Baths of Diocletian. The scale alone, its marble columns, golden light, and monumental arches, gave the moment a cinematic stillness.

Daniella entered the basilica on her father’s arm, her gown moving in rhythm with the choir’s music, while hundreds of guests rose to watch the procession. The service followed Nigerian Catholic tradition, lasting nearly three hours, weaving solemn prayers with bursts of joy and traditional dance that filled the Renaissance space with rhythm and warmth.

The sight of six hundred elegantly dressed guests, many in bold, colorful Nigerian attire, created a striking counterpoint to the church’s pale stone and architectural symmetry. It  felt like a conversation between cultures.

Decor

At Villa Aldobrandini, the design by Stefania Zen Weddings and Italian Wedding Company transformed centuries-old architecture into a serene, symmetrical scene. The courtyard tables were arranged in long, mirrored lines, reflecting the villa’s stone facade and sculptural fountains.

Floral compositions by Andrea Patrizi Floral Designer combined white roses, hydrangeas, and olive branches, weaving softness into the monumental setting. Each place setting glowed under candlelight, creating an intentional balance between structure and intimacy.

The palette stayed loyal to ivory, cream, and green, letting texture carry the mood: marble, gold accents, glass, and silk linens. As the sun went down, warm light traced the architecture’s curves, turning the entire space into what felt like a baroque theatre dinner: refined, modern, and precise.

Reception

As night fell over Villa, the celebration shifted from elegance to spectacle. Projection lights illuminated the facade with the couple’s names, cascading patterns, and bursts of color that turned the baroque structure into a living stage. The glow of candles extended across the courtyard, meeting the laughter, music, and movement.

Guests filled the open-air space, dancing beneath the villa’s arches while the warm Roman night carried the sound of celebration through the gardens. Every frame captured by Alessandro Colle reflected that balance between heritage and modernity, grandeur wrapped in joy.

Isolay and Daniella’s wedding combined scale, culture, and precision. This event felt intentional and personal. From the Michelangelo-designed church to the baroque villa, every choice reflected respect for history and confidence in their own story. It was less about spectacle and more about clarity: a modern definition of classic elegance.
