Style: Classic, Heritage-rooted
Time of planning: 1 year
Number of guests: 175
Setting: Castle & Cathedral
Season: Fall

Alison and Fraser’s story began in a wine bar in New York’s West Village nearly a decade ago. She was a Los Angeles-born architect preparing to move to San Francisco for graduate school. He was a Paris-born finance professional about to relocate to Chicago. Despite the timing, they leaned into love. Years of long-distance gave way to life together in Chicago and then Boston, but Scotland, Fraser’s ancestral home, remained a constant. From their first summer trip together, it became a place they returned to again and again. When Fraser proposed in his family’s garden in Pennsylvania, they both knew: their wedding had to be in the Highlands.

Location & Planning

Every part of their wedding weekend felt anchored in place and purpose. The ceremony took place at the soaring Dunkeld Cathedral, while the reception unfolded at the grand Blair Castle, nestled within lush gardens. In the days leading up to the wedding, guests gathered at Fonab Castle in Pitlochry for a formal rehearsal dinner, followed by a spirited welcome celebration in the backyard of Fraser’s grandmother’s home in Kincraig.

Planning such a layered destination wedding from Boston was no small feat, but Jamie and the Timeless White team made it seamless. Their ability to translate Alison and Fraser’s ideas into reality, while honoring the couple’s love for history and understated glamour, shaped every detail from venue transitions to flow and ambiance. The result was a wedding that felt intimate, intentional, and beautifully theirs.

Rehearsal Dinner

The weekend began with elegance and refinement at Fonab Castle. Guests were welcomed to a beautifully set dinner where heritage-inspired details took center stage. Tables were dressed in red tartan runners, styled with green tapered candles, dried foliage, and forest-hued menus. Handwritten name cards and wooden tea light holders brought warmth to the place settings. The mood was festive but heartfelt — a perfect beginning.

The castle’s interiors created a cozy environment where guests mingled, laughed, and shared stories late into the evening. It was the kind of night where the clink of glasses and flicker of candlelight framed every conversation in a little extra magic.

Welcome Day

In contrast to the elegance of the night before, the welcome day was earthy, spirited, and full of joyful chaos. Hosted in the family backyard, the celebration had the feel of a Scottish summer party.

The highlight? A full Highland Games setup complete with a competitive tug-of-war match that had everyone cheering and laughing in equal measure. Guests bundled up in flannels, kilts, and boots, sipping warm drinks while music filled the air. A pianist in a traditional kilt played under a canvas tent, adding a poetic soundtrack to the golden light of early fall.

Later that day, the couple slipped away into the field, soaking up the golden hour light and capturing some of the weekend’s most romantic portraits. Thanks to Colin Ross and Katie Blair Matthews for documenting every spontaneous, heartfelt moment so beautifully.

The afternoon bled into evening with a casual BBQ feast and open-air dancing under string lights. It was unpolished in the best way: community-focused, celebratory, and brimming with personality. The kind of welcome that said, “We’re here for more than just one day—we’re here to make memories.”

Wedding Day

Bridal Fashion

Alison’s look embodied modern elegance rooted in romance. She wore a strapless Kelly Faetanini gown with a full skirt and subtle structure, paired with a long-sleeved lace Jenny Yoo topper for the ceremony. Her hair, styled by AMM Team in cascading waves, was crowned with a delicate veil, and she carried a bouquet of crisp white roses.

Accessories were minimal but meaningful: heirloom rings, classic Dior flats, and her signature Jo Malone scent.

Fraser embraced heritage with a bold Fraser Ancient Red tartan kilt from MacGregor and MacDuff, finished with a bespoke Eight Yards sporran and his clan’s formal jacket. Every detail echoed family tradition and personal pride, bringing his Scottish-American identity to the forefront.

Ceremony

Set inside the magnificent Dunkeld Cathedral, the ceremony was a harmonious blend of tradition and intention. Framed by glowing stained glass and romantic white florals by We Are Gloam, Alison and Fraser exchanged both religious and personal vows, echoing the theme of choosing each other every day.

The ceremony felt deeply personal, filled with warmth, emotion, and quiet moments the couple will never forget. It was captured beautifully by The Lawsons, whose lens caught every meaningful glance and subtle shift in energy throughout the cathedral.

Cocktail Hour

After the ceremony, guests made their way to Blair Castle, where cocktail hour took place on the lawn with the white castle as a backdrop. A bit of light drizzle passed through, but spirits stayed high.

Drinks were served from a custom bar, with fun creations like the “Fray Fashioned” and the “Millspresso Martini.” The atmosphere was relaxed and upbeat, with guests chatting, toasting, and enjoying the view.

Private Moment

Before joining the rest of the guests, Alison and Fraser took a few minutes for themselves. They wandered the grounds together, stepped away from the noise, and enjoyed a calm moment captured in a few quiet portraits. It was a pause to breathe before the energy of the evening took over.

Decor & Setting

The reception decor was where everything came together: heritage, modernity, personality. With the help of Timeless White, the couple brought their vision to life in one of Scotland’s most storied halls. The tall, antler-clad walls of Blair Castle’s ballroom served as a dramatic backdrop for tables dressed in white, adorned with sculptural florals by We Are Gloam, and flickering with candlelight. Nestled among the arrangements were mirrored disco balls.

Alison’s love for disco balls wasn’t just aesthetic, it was symbolic. “They reflect the light they receive in all directions,” she shared, “and that’s what we hope to do with all the love we’ve been given.”

"We couldn’t have done any of this without our wedding planner Jamie, he was truly the best!"

Reception

The evening began with a traditional Scottish ceilidh, where guests spun through classic dances, feet stomping and spirits high. The dinner itself was filled with heartfelt toasts, a warm and cozy atmosphere, and a strong sense of togetherness.

Alison and Fraser also shared their first dance, a fun mashup of “Can You Feel the Love Tonight” and “I Just Can’t Wait to Be King, which set the perfect tone for the night.

Later, Next Level Band took over with modern hits and high-energy performances, keeping the dance floor packed until late. Instead of a classic tiered cake, the couple opted for a towering croquembouche by 3D Cakes, a nod to Fraser’s Parisian childhood, decorated with spun sugar and white roses.

Guests also enjoyed late-night treats like fish and chips and charcuterie cones, ensuring no one went hungry between dances.

As the night came to a close, Alison and Fraser reflected on how smoothly everything had gone. While people often say something is bound to go wrong on the day, they genuinely felt like nothing did, and that made the celebration feel all the more magical.

Advice from the couple:

• Find a planner who brings your vision to life.

A honeymoon right after can help you process it all. We loved being able to go on our honeymoon right after, because it let us take the time to reflect even more and talk about how perfect the week was.
