Kyle and Aishat’s wedding was a breathtaking celebration of love, set in the stunning Andalusian mountains. Surrounded by their closest family and friends, the couple created an unforgettable day filled with laughter, heartfelt moments, and an effortlessly chic atmosphere. From the intimate ceremony to the lively reception, every detail reflected their unique bond and cultural connections, making it a truly magical event.
Location: Cordoba, Spain
Style: Boho & botanical vibe
Number of guests: 27
Setting: Villa’s Cortyard
Time of Planning: 6 months
Season: Spring
Kyle and Aishat’s love story began across the globe—Kyle from the west coast of Canada and Aishat from Lagos, Nigeria, before moving to Vancouver during Covid for graduate school. Their paths crossed through Hinge, and their first date was at a Cuban restaurant: “It was as if we’d known each other for years at that point.” After a year and a half, Aishat’s birthday trip to Tulum, Mexico, became the moment Kyle proposed.
Vision & Photography
The choice of the destination was kind of easy for the couple. With family and friends spread across the globe, a destination that felt like a happy compromise became a reality.
“In keeping with this unexpected Spanish connection, we chose to take our wedding to Spain to solidify our commitment, surrounded by our closest friends and family in an intimate but electric vacation wedding.”
Rey Weddings, the talented photography and videography duo, captured every magical moment of the day with precision and artistry. Whether it was the breathtaking views or personal moments between the couple, the team had an eye for bringing every scene to life with style and elegance.
Couple's Morning & Fashion
Aishat’s wedding day look was magical, with her Enzoani dress and a stunning overskirt for the ceremony, which she later removed for the reception. She wore it with Jimmy Choo‘s Bing wedge sandals. Her diamond earrings, a thoughtful gift from Kyle, sparkled as she carried a memory charm of her late father on her bouquet, keeping him close on such an important day. Her best friends and sister-in-law styled her hair while Jose Carlos expertly did her makeup.
"I was on a cloud all day. Zero nerves, I could hardly contain my excitement as I was ready to walk down the aisle to my love."
Aishat, The bride
Kyle’s wedding day style was all about versatility and class, thanks to his custom-fit suits from Indochino. For the ceremony, he wore a navy blue suit with brown oxfords. “Originally, I was just going to wear the suit – but I figured, hey, I already have my measurements, why not get a second suit?” He switched it up for the reception with a black tuxedo with a bow tie.
“It fits with my personality of being a little over the top while still maintaining a classy vibe that I was looking for in the photos and celebration.”
Ceremony
“The choice of ceremony really came down to balancing our desire for something authentically us – relaxed and easy-going – while still honoring our traditions and cultural connections.” Both Kyle and Aishat walked themselves down the aisle—though Aishat was a bit behind with hair and makeup, Kyle took the opportunity to crack jokes and keep the guests entertained. The bride walked herself out in a stunning reveal that brought smiles and tears instantly to our close group of friends and family.
"The guests absolutely loved the ceremony. They loved the location, the stunning backdrop, the Andalusian mountains, and they loved our vows."
The couple
The vows were heartfelt and full of laughter, keeping things simple yet meaningful. Their wedding planner brought their dream to life, making it even more perfect than they imagined.
Cocktail Hour
To set the perfect tone for their celebration, Kyle and Aishat booked an authentic Spanish guitar musician to play during the ceremony and cocktail hour. Guests were greeted by thoughtful touches, like luggage tags hanging from a lemon tree, each reading, “Thank you for traveling all this way to celebrate our special day.” These charming tags served as a unique favor and the seating chart, with guests’ names and table numbers printed on them, adding an extra layer of personalization to the event.
Moments Alone
Kyle and Aishat envisioned an intimate, relaxed, and deeply personal wedding, and when they discovered their venue, it immediately resonated with Kyle’s vision. Nestled in a breathtaking courtyard surrounded by flowers, fruit trees, and the rolling olive fields of the Andalusian Mountain range, it was the perfect backdrop for their celebration.
Just before the celebration, the newlyweds shared a private, intimate moment beautifully captured by the talented team at Rey Weddings. Surrounded by breathtaking views, they took a quiet pause to enjoy the reality of finally being husband and wife, cherishing the calm before the excitement of their big celebration.
Reception Decor
The reception took place at the stunning Cortijo Abril, where Kyle and Aishat embraced the venue’s authentic charm while adding their unique twist with a boho-botanical vibe. Aishat’s careful selection of colors and flowers, with the help of their planner, Rosella Berghuis, brought the space to life, perfectly complementing the breathtaking surroundings—fruit trees lining the venue and olive trees stretching as far as the eye could see.
The combination of natural beauty and thoughtfully curated details created a magical atmosphere under the mountains, making the evening feel like a dream come true.
Reception
The reception was filled with heartfelt moments, including touching speeches from their best friends and the groom’s mother, making the evening feel even more special. Kyle and Aishat kept things simple yet authentic for dessert with a traditional Spanish-style cake, complemented by a burnt Basque cheesecake and sweet local Spanish pastries.
However, if they had to choose one unforgettable moment, it would be their first dance. “Time froze and the crowd and the event melted away as we stood there in a loving embrace. Nothing else mattered in that moment, nothing existed, and that feeling was very surreal.” It was a moment of pure magic that encapsulated the essence of their wedding day.
Advice from the couple:
• Take deep breaths and enjoy the day. Take it all in, as it goes by quickly. No matter the obstacles or the chaos, just focus on each other. We faced many challenges right up until the morning of the wedding – but all of that aside, we simply focused on each other, stayed calm, and worked together to overcome the obstacles. In the whole lead-up to the wedding, we really didn’t have even one real fight – because we never let go of the important thing that was the foundation of why we were getting married – us.
