A High-Fashion Wedding Inspired by Chanel

Carrie and Rex’s wedding was a perfect mix of bold fashion choices and personal expression, with a modern twist on traditions. Inspired by the bride’s love for Chanel, and with the expert design and styling help of AF Atelier, their celebration in Hong Kong embraced sleek aesthetics and elegant details while respectfully reinterpreting the classic Chinese wedding style.

Location: Hong Kong
Style: Chic, modern, bold
Time of planning: 1 year
Number of guests: 90 (сеremony), 40 (reception)
Setting: Ceremony – clubhouse, reception – restaurant
Season: Spring

Carrie and Rex’s journey to the altar wasn’t a typical one. Their love story began during a summer camp in Beijing when they were both in high school. Afterward, Carrie moved back to the UK to continue her studies, and they didn’t meet again for seven years until a reunion with their camp friends. This second meeting reignited the connection between them, and soon after, Rex made a life-changing decision: he left his job and flew to the UK to be with Carrie.

The pandemic foiled his plan to propose at Carrie’s favorite restaurant, Gordon Ramsay, but Rex didn’t let that stop him. Instead, he proposed in the luxurious suite of the Rosewood Hotel, a modern hotel in Hong Kong that matched Carrie’s taste for sleek, contemporary elegance.

Bridal Fashion

Carrie’s fashion choices were a central part of the wedding’s style. For the ceremony, she wore a stunning gown by J’Aton Couture, an Australian brand known for its opulent and bold designs.

For the traditional tea ceremony, Carrie opted for a unique look, blending modern and traditional elements by wearing a Chanel blouse paired with a skirt from up-and-coming designer Victor Chan Studio, putting a fresh spin on the classic qun kwa – a red embroidered dress worn by brides in Chinese weddings.

Her evening attire was equally show-stopping, as she changed into a sparkling black dress by Jaori Official, chosen from the local bridal shop Bridalistic.

"My feeling was not to change that many looks, but each must be unique and classic when I look back after a decade or so."

Carrie completed her looks with her favorite Chanel pieces — elegant earrings and a signature perfume. Her simple and chic bouquet by m.e.s. Studio was made up of delicate white anemones, a nod to her minimalist aesthetic.

First Look

Carrie and Rex’s first look was a beautifully intimate moment. Set in the luxurious suite where they were getting ready, Carrie walked towards Rex in her breathtaking couture gown. As soon as they saw each other, the anticipation and joy of the day ahead was palpable. Their private exchange of smiles and glances was a tender pause before the day’s celebrations, setting the stage for the bold and modern aesthetic to follow.

Jenny Tong Photography captured the moment in stunning black-and-white photos, perfectly matching the wedding’s sleek, modern vibe. The images felt like they belonged on the cover of a high-fashion magazine, adding a old-world charm to the couple’s intimate first look.

Ceremony

The ceremony at Hong Kong Country Club was a striking departure from traditional weddings, designed by AF Atelier.

Inspired by Carrie’s love for Chanel, the one-of-a-kind setup featured mirror panels and pearl bead accents, evoking the iconic spiral staircase at Chanel’s Paris headquarters. This bold design and the serene ocean backdrop created a visually stunning atmosphere as Carrie was escorted down the aisle by her father.

Guests, dressed in chic black and neutral tones, were captivated by how the design reflected Carrie’s bold and stylish personality. This modern ceremony defied convention, as black is not a standard color in Chinese weddings, yet the couple stayed true to their vision.

After exchanging heartwarming vows, Carrie and Rex cut into a three-tier cake by The Symphony Designer Cakes adorned with sugar-made anemones, mirroring the minimalistic floral theme.

To further personalize their day, the couple displayed panels of black-and-white pre-wedding photos, transforming the venue into a chic gallery space, adding a unique and stylish touch to their unforgettable wedding.

Decor & Setting

The reception took place at the historic Club Lusitano, one of Hong Kong’s oldest and most prestigious venues. Its colonial charm provided an elegant contrast to the sleek, modern decor. With the glittering Hong Kong skyline as a backdrop, the venue was a perfect mix of old-world charm and the aesthetic of the metropolis.

Towering candle arrangements and delicate floral centerpieces perfectly complemented the black-and-white theme, tying together the venue’s historic and modern elements. The standout features were the hand-sprayed black orchids and white anemones, which added a sophisticated yet daring element to the overall look. Wedding Garden expertly handled the decor and florals, ensuring that every decorative element was brought to life seamlessly.

Fashion sketches on the personalized menus and the monochrome palette further enhanced the atmosphere, transforming the venue into a chic, high-fashion showroom.

Reception

The intimate reception, an exclusive gathering of 40 close friends and family, unfolded with sophistication and style. As the night fell, Carrie and Rex transformed stunningly into ultra-modern black ensembles that dazzled under the venue’s lights. The couple’s coordinated, fashion-forward looks were a testament to their shared sense of style.

While the reception remained warm and personal, the couple’s chic vision continued to the end. Even as the evening transitioned into a lively party, the atmosphere stayed intact.

The wedding’s style was a modern masterpiece. This incredible fusion of sophistication and creativity was flawlessly brought to life by AF Atelier, whose expertise ensured that every aspect of the day perfectly captured the bride’s desires. The result was a one-of-a-kind celebration that felt both personal and impossibly stylish.

One of the evening’s most memorable moments came when Carrie surprised Rex with a performance of “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You.” Rex was caught off guard by the sweet gesture, making the moment even more special.

By the end of this bold and lively evening, it was clear to every guest, and most importantly to the newlyweds themselves, that the wedding had gone off splendidly — just as planned, and even better.

Advice from the couple:

• Be true to yourself and go with your heart

• Ensure to mingle with every single guest

• Relax and enjoy the party

• Trust your vendors/people that you’ve picked them for helping out on the day.
